    Thank you for description on Timemore handgrinders. Is there any information from Timemore on Chestnut C3, how many micron is for one click? Let's say start from zero,than at 10clicks equivalent to what size? Hope my question is clear enough,thank you.

    Great video, Got my just after Labor day last September and I can't recommend it enough even though there weren't any reviews back then I took a chance. I will add it has a great burr compared to so many others, the E&B burr and the bumpy but not spiky body makes it easy and comfy to use & produce great results although I haven't tried the upper end electrics like niche but way better than the Breville I used

    The E&B burr was actually an old burr, it was the same burr that used in the Timemore Slim Plus, E&B is stands for espresso and brew.

    If I'm only going to buy one, mostly for pour-over coffee, but sometimes maybe for Italian stovetop espresso, which one would you get? Is the C3 ESP Pro best for all applications, but just a little more expensive? Or is the C3S Pro somehow better for pour over coffee?

    How does the C3 (Pro) and ESP compare in time needed to grind 20g? Unfortunately, the grinding time was cutted in the video.
    And how does the ESP compare to the X-Lite? What's the difference? They got a pretty similar design (if not the same case) and differ just 5€ in price. The X-Lite burr looks slightly different and has one more axis.

      I use an ESP twice a day everyday. I run a mix of dark roast and med dark roast 15g of beans in approx 45 seconds without thinking about it. It produces very nice fluffy grinds! I tried the 1Zpresso JX pro and really did not enjoy it, for all the hype...when it came to espresso it just didn't seem as easy to turn or to get the right grind. Also tried the timemore chestnut C2 w/o folding handle which wasn't bad but harder to dial in for sure with really only one setting that worked alright. The ESP dialed in so easy and as I said, very easy to grind. Had my daughter do it a few times and she agreed. She's an adult but suppose a kid could do it fairly easy 🙂

      @skyro13 Год назад +4

      @@fmarccharles hi there, thanks for your reply.
      I'm using the Chestnut C2 (with the fixed handle) for approx. 18months now. And grinding (mostly) Espresso 3-4 times a day is getting quite tedious (and my burr set isn't as sharp as it used to be). 😅 Nevertheless, it's a pretty nice grinder, especially for the money!
      That's why I was so excited when I read about the ESP. I also contacted Timemore directly, and they stated the ESP is clearly Espresso focused, while the X-Lite is specialized on pour-over.
      I was thinking about the 1zpresso, too. But I never liked their design and they face some lawsuits because they seem to steal some Commandante patents.
      Therefore, I'll get an ESP myself next. ✌️

      @@KyleBaker so as an update, while 8m using a Gaggia classic Pro, my oldest daughter inherited my DiLonghi Dedica 685 and is using it with a bottomless portafilter and proper basket grinding with the C2. She likes it a lot, it does a good job but easier to adjust by dose size instead of grind because the grind steps just are a bit large. Esp seems to make fluffier grinds but I think you can order the same burr on C2 though at that costs ESP is more attractive

    • @KyleBaker
      @KyleBaker Год назад +2

      I did an inordinate amount of research on this, and even more after that comment. The chestnut X introduced their high end espresso focused burr, the S2C. Similarly, they upgraded their old steel burrs to a new design called E&B on other models.
      More recently, the C3 got a smaller version of the S2C burrs, and the X lite seems to actually have come out with an upgraded version of the S2C burrs; yes, the X lite, while inferior in every other way, seems to grind better according to Timemore's own analysis, by using slightly narrower tips on the top of the star shape on their burrs.
      The ESP, irritatingly, using the E&B burrs. For some reason they throw in the "S2C" terminology in the promotional materials as well, but it looks just like an E&B when I see it in pics and videos, and it has E&B stamped onto it when you see unboxing vids (while the x lite shows S2C stamped onto it's burrs). The ESP seemed to have like 50 clicks of adjustment which also seems like not enough. The X lite also has a problem here, which 48 clicks... That'll be better than your C2, but still not really reasonably able to dial in. So the $300+ chestnut X is the only grinder in their range with a really suitable dial for espresso...
      I really didn't want to spend more than 50-100, but it just doesn't look like there's a truly good espresso grinder under $170, which is the 1zpresso X Pro, with 12~ microns per click and good performance at fine grinds; at that point, though, might as well just get the J Max, which is seemingly the second best espresso hand grinder money can buy, since I'm mostly buying this for espresso, and the days I don't drink espresso I use a moka pot. J Max has 8~micron clicks, coated burrs that should last 5x~ longer, and a few other nice touches.
      I even considered a chestnut X now that I've been walked up the price ladder this far and I like the chestnut x aesthetically so much more, and am intrigued by their burrs, but for some reason no comparison video really says they loved the X coffee, weirdly. Meanwhile, the X lite has better burrs, but not sufficient dial in, and has not been featured in any comparison reviews... And once I found out the ESP had E&B burrs, I gave up on it. Also no comparison reviews, and still not really enough clicks to make me happy, anyways...
      Since I just bought a 9Barista, and that's the reason I'm in the market, it seems silly to consider getting a grinder that will hold it back I really wanted to go with timemore-far better aesthetics (1zpresso have frankly awful visual design, they are not called out on this enough), and that S2C burrs tech does seem compelling and their analysis results look promising... But I just can't convince myself to take the risk. Looks like I'll be going with 1zpresso J Max.

      I got a C3S Pro, and this thing is absolutely solid. I’m not sure how the screw threadings on the grounds canister would hold up after repeated actuations, and I don’t know how the mechanical bits would last in day to day repeated use, but it seems really solid to me.
