This was a series we wanted to deep dive into. Unfortunately the Pandemic hit and Ares Games no longer has the license. I may do a few more one-shot videos for it though. Need the time. - Ken
I was on the fence about getting this as I have found a copy of the starter set at a local retailer. This video has me heading out to purchase. Thank you.
Great rules overview of a great game. I went with this after XWing went 2.0, and haven't looked back. Love this gem, and your demo of the rules was well done, thanks!
Thank you for the feedback, Jeremy. I am in a similar situation as you - leaving X-wing during the 2.0 changeover to get into Battlestar Galactica. I'm looking forward to the Capital ships and original series fighters. - Ken
@@davidharris8034 I have an idea for a series that would include the Raptors and Mk VIIs. I don't know if I can fit the Heavy raiders in right away though... Plan also includes radio chatter though akin to this Learn to Play.
Our plan is to release a dogfight using the Quick Start rules only on Friday. We'll be releasing a larger "Complete Rules" game later in March between our Armada releases. The asteroids are store bought - I do not recall the manufacturer however and the box is long gone. :(
Wolf 58th This is one I have heavily invested in after XWing went to 2.0. I thoroughly enjoy the system as it has two components I find interesting. The first is the emphasis on maneuvering your starfighter, and the second is how easily this game lens itself to campaign play.
@@IONRadio Can you elaborate a little on how you think this game easily lens itself to campaign play? I have a starter set, and I'm looking to get the most out of the experience.
@@h.l.malazan5782 In the back of the scenario book are rules for pilots starting as Average or Nuggets and working their way to Ace status. Over several games you will add talents and flaws to your pilots. This could be added with the in-game damage to force some vipers / raiders out of combat for a game or two. If you are playing a game in which you chase the Galactica, there could be limits to fuel, ammo and vipers.
I wish this game was bigger. I don't see much about it since initial launch, till this video and one other I've seen recently. Also, is that an offical Battlestar?? Are there OFFICIAL rules for big capital ships yet? I know there's a fan made system,I mean official for this game specifically. Thanks
Mitch, the game seems to be fairly popular outside of the US, I've read several after action reports on a few different forums. The Battlestar we are using is the Moebius Models 1 : 4105 scale Galactica. Official rules and models have not come out yet. I do believe that the Galactica minature will be larger than the model we are using.
@@IONRadio Happy to hear it has a following. Its non existent in the north east from what I can tell. So you've heard that they will be supporting large capital ships then?

@@h.l.malazan5782 Thank you. We took our time and really wanted to get things correct. It was equally important for us to include a narrative (Nugget Pilot) to help with the concept.
Too bad the little plastic selectors on the control panels tend to become loose and do not stay aligned with the figures ...at least mine don't after a few uses.
All of mine so far have been pretty good. I have read on some of the forums that there seems to be a mix between control panels that are too loose and others that are too tight. In a lot of cases, the fix involves opening up the panel and putting back together again.
Kyle, yes. They were under one of the control panels in the tray. All three of my core sets had them. I did pick up a control panel box, but I haven’t opened it yet. I can not say if they are in the expansion box or not. - Ken
Armada is an awesome game and both John and I are looking forward to the last chance qualifier (and hopefully Worlds) at Adepticon. Thank you for checking out the Battlestar Galactica video though. :)
It looks a lot more complicated than it really is. There’s also option for scaling the complexity. As a long time x-wing and armada player I found the game mechanics to be quite fun. The rules and control panels feel intimidating at first but start making a lot of sense once you start playing.
It's based on the Wings of War system. There are fiddly bits (movement cards and control panels) to be sure. It will be interesting to get opinions on the game after we release a battle report.
I prefer the movement templates in X-wing, but I prefer the core concepts of Battlestar. To each their own though. I dropped out of X-wing when 2.0 was launched and haven't really tried to get back into it. - Ken

We need more of these videos! They are great
David, more Battlestar battle reports or more narrative "how to play" type videos?
Narrative is a bonus

Nice video. I'm a Wings of Glory WWI guy, but I always wanted to see a BSG game play out. Those asteroids are bad ass.

Thanks for posting this. I came here from the Wings of Glory Aerodrome, because you linked it. Well done! Mike [OldGuy59]
Thanks, Mike. We appreciate the support. Please feel free to suggest scenarios for future AARs.

Did you use a paint marker to color in the control panel?
Elew, yes. I used paint markers for most of the panel. The Battlestar Galactica logo was done with a brush.
@@IONRadio Ah. thank you for the video & the reply.
The Battlestar model looks amazing. Where did you get it from? 🤩
The Battlestar we are using is the Moebius Models 1:4105 scale Galactica. They are getting really hard to find.
@@IONRadio I can imagine that. Thanks die the Info! :)
Hi!! I love the painting on your control Panel!!, can you please make a tutorial for the painting
Marcel, I used some paint pens and touched up the raised surfaces. It was almost like drybrushing.
