I'm at the late game stage and I'm going to write some tips that I haven't seen anybody else mentioned, if you find this useful, please thumbs up so more people can benefit from it. AI Companion guide: First of all, every guide I watched says: "always press F1 twice to focus fire on your target mech." This is the absolute worst idea, let me explain why. Every battle has 60+ mobs of tanks and helicopters. Starting mid game they are armed with PPC and LRM15s, focus fire on a mech will leave all the mobs unchecked and they will end you in 30 seconds. Your AI companions are actually fast at taking out small mobs, 2 or 3 shots usually, don't stop them. My strategy is to pilot a mech with more armor to aggro the enemy mechs until my AI companions clean the little mobs, then use focus fire when there are only multiple enemy mechs left. Don't spam commands to your AI companions, if you pay attention, every time you issue a command, they will stop what their doing for about a second, then do what you asked, so if you keep spamming F1,F2 to form up on you, they will just slow down and stand there. I only use it when one of them broke off to chase an enemy, they usually follow you anyway. On top of jump jets, don't use unguided missles on AI companion mechs, they suck at using it. Battle guide: When you start any battle, always look at the map first (press B) and walk along the parameter, the direct line to your objective is usually an ambush and you will be overwhelmed with enemies from all sides. This is especially the case in main quest battles, take the road less traveled and use hills to hide behind from long range enemy fire. Would you rather walk 2 more minutes in battle or start over ? The difference is night and day. Late game guide: When you're heading into a higher rank war zone, save your game at an industrial hub first, then fly over and see what the new tonnage requirement is at the new zone, reload the game back at your industrial hub to chose which 4 mechs to load to meet that tonnage. This will save you lots of money in repairs and refit at the warzone (usually cost 300% more). Not all higher rank war zone will allow more tonnage, my tip is stay in the lowest ranking war zone for the highest tonnage you can afford to do to farm, it's not worth losing your valued weapons in a more difficult battle capped at the same tonnage. During late game of heavy or assault mechs, put all negotiating points into damage coverage, you don't salvage anything useful at this point anyway and the repair cost is astronomical. I have more strategies but this is all I can remember for now. Good luck.
I can't agree more with not spamming commands to your lance. I went for a quite a while before I even attempted giving them commands and couldn't understand a lot of the comments about how ineffective the lance AI was. Then I started issuing commands to them and they fell apart, instead of focusing fire, half of them just stopped attacking. I went back to not issuing commands, aside from the occasional "follow me" if one gets too far away, and I've had no problems with them destroying all sorts of things. The only lance AI issue I have is with the defense missions, but they're supposedly working on that
@@MrGPlays I think it's a cool QoL design choice. For people who want the immersion, they can go to the consoles and talk to everyone when needed, etc. For those who just want to jump into the action, the menus are a single button away, anywhere on the ship. Loving this game so far!
This is one of the most straight to the point and most helpful tip videos that I've found for this game, and all in a conveniently short 2 minutes and some change! Thanks a bunch, bro!
Regarding Salvage... Early game, unless you CRIPPLE a mech so heavily it isn't worth repairing (Campaign gives you a Centurion which can Core and de-Leg a mech when hitting the groin region which removes the Core and Legs, usually rendering the mech mostly scrap with maybe some salvageable gear), you won't be able to get the mech. Hell vs the Spider in the first few missions I barely got it, and couldn't get anything else despite having used the max Salvage I could... Likewise C-Bills, early on are a good thing to stock up on. I tend to run C-Bills early on for the first... lets go with 10 Missions once you get a full Lance and enough mechs to USE said 4 person Lance, that should get you around a million easy C-Bills and selling off things you won't use (Like LRMS if you don't have a mech that uses LRM 20's or Machine Guns, etc. If you don't have a Mech that can equip it and deal more damage, then SELL it for now) sp you get more Money and can repair Mechs more often if they do get destroyed. Once you get around 7-8 Mechs, start stockpiling gear you don't use as you never know if a mech you will enjoy will pop up for sale or during a mission and you suddenly can make use of the LRM 20 you got 2 missions ago. Regarding Multi-Mission Contracts... I recommend getting 3 Lances, a General Lance which is average and decent enough to survive (Example, Player: Crab/Griffon. Bot 1: Centurion. Bot 2: Jenner/Griffon. Bot 3: Crab/Shadow Hawk/ Spider.), a Heavy Lance which is well Medium or higher mechs that can WRECK any other mechs and have decent armor (Griffon, Centurion, 2 Hunchbacks of DIFFERING types, decide which one goes to the player, and adjust the Mechs for which bot can work it the best) and lastly a Kill Lance which is designed to go in, kill other Mechs exclusively, as quickly as you can, then bail (Hunchback, Thunderbolt, Stalker and Highlander for instance, mercs most mechs... adjust as needed for Weight Restriction and number of targets)... Destroy at least 1 leg on any mech you are fighting, this HALVES the speed and reduces the stability (Autocannon 5 knocks a single crippled leg Medium Mech on its face, this was on a Centurion since it was all I had to replace the destroyed Autocannon.) which can be the difference between losing a mech on your side or having all survive the mission.
That had occurred to me but I don't have enough mechs yet to do this. It's a good reason to keep a more realistic stable of mechs in your Leopard, really.
You can have 8 mechs in your storage, that's 2 full lances. 2 mission contracts you use lance 1 for first mission and lance 2 for second. 3 mission contracts use lance 1 for mission one, then repair lance 1 before mission two, use lance 2. By the time you get to mission 3 you lance 1 mechs are usually repaired, if not mix and mach the ones in better shape with the full repaired ones.
Multi-missions can be good for upping cashflow, provided you have enough mechs, u will need 8 mechs for a 2 mission contract, 12 for a 3, always swap out mechs between the missions, doin this will keep repair costs down, and if u return to friendly hubs for repairs will further the discount. Also a good idea to pay attention to who u are workin for, you will pay less for goods in allied space, so pick and choose who u gonna support, you can always come back later to do missions
As a new player to mw5, I'm so thankful for this video. I had to watch 5 long ass 'quick tips' videos before this one, and this is the only one that gave me real, quick tips, not a 15 min + cinematic of how terrible or awesome the game is. Thank you!
multi missions are absolutely worth it, get 8-12 mechs first and make sure your ai pilots are moderately leveled and can avoid dmg decently and then just be careful, some of the best mechs you can salvage can be found within those multi mission conracts, ty for the vid though, was nice, all the best.
So I've completed the campaign now, got almost all the mechs in the Inner Sphere I wanted except for Hero Atlas BH. My experience so far is unmodded (I play via GeForce Now so I don't think there is a way currently to mod the game) Base tip: ALWAYS max armor on your and your lancemates mechs. Otherwise you will drop very fast. Enemy AI will not go for headshots or your legs, so if you need to drop some armor you can get away with dropping head armor to 24 and then some from the legs. Advanced tip: Centurion (the mech you start with) has so called "shield arm" without any hardpoints. When you engage enemy mech, fire, then twist so that your "shield arm" gets hit. Protect your ballistic hardpoint arm. Now a tip from me for easy money missions: Defense. - In this mode enemy AI will NOT target you unless you aggro them first. Their priority is target structures, then aggressors. Use this to your advantage. - Defense missions will usually have two dropship landing spots that alternate with waves. Put your lance roughly in between these points. If you hive them some LRMs and/or PPCs they will deal with tanks/fliers quickly - Yourself - take the burstiest mech you can. Kintaro loaded with SRMs or Stalker with SRMs for later stages. - Enemy mechs will get engaged by your lancemates but you will still not be targeted by enemy AI. - Sneak up behind them and unload alpha strike into their back. I have a Stalker 3F I think, with 4 SRM6 (Tier4) and 6 Medium Lasers, roughly 100points of damage in alpha. One alpha is enough to core an assault mech from behind. It may happen though that your alpha will not core the mech - too little damage or damage spread to side torsos. Quickly order your lance to focus fire on that mech - it will start turning towards you but it's back armor is gone now so you lance will finish him off. Rinse and repeat, reap rewards.
Yeah being 1 Claim Point short of grabbing a mech sucks. Literally just happened to me. Mission complete and 1 short of getting a Rare Shadow Hawk model with a total payout of 4.1 million C Bills.
Go for the legs/cockpit for more salvage options at the end of the mission. That will quickly help you build a bunch of mechs and they are worth more to sell then the c-bills from the mission reward.
ignore tip 3. if you have 750k damage coverage and only take 100k damage your payout is 100k not 750k. you will lose so much money ignoring the increased cbills
I've noticed this about mid game, my repair bills are usually in the 110k to 200k range if it gets kinda hellish, but I can stack c-bill payout and come out at the very least 300k or so on top after repairs (of course more depending on the mission type, difficulty, multi-step, etc.)
Ignore C-Bill Payout is a terrible tip for new players IMO, I don't understand why everyone says this unless it matters more in late game. I only take $100K worth of damage in a mission, so taking Damage Coverage only pays out $100K. Taking C-Bill Payout will give ~$400K or something, I lose $100K from damages, but still make a net gain of $300K. Damage Coverage only pays for damages and nothing else, so compared to C-Bill Payout I end up losing $300K. Salvage seems fine (that's it's own set of cost analysis arguments) but everything I sell ends up being worth 50% of the face value so I always take C-Bill Payout and haven't had any money issues.
Happy to say I worked all these out myself as a total noob. Just to add my own tips: F1F1 your squad onto an enemy mech then try kill any little tanks yourself. Those little buggers can cause a lot of damage. Try to stay at maxim range from objective areas to avoid getting swarmed. Don't be afraid to fall back and use your AC to snipe towers. Targeting legs seems to be very effective, especially on heavy mechs where you can AC snipe them. I usually F1F1 fast mechs first as they are the hardest to kill your self and they die fast so you can move on to the heavy hitters.
Great guide. Enjoyed the the humour, like the woman's dull face when going up to the bridge to speak with her, such a chore. And speaking of a chore. I was doing a Raid mission an ice map and rather than land near us where we'd just cleared an area, she decided to land across a ravine, making us go right around and back up to get to the pick up zone. That boiled my p*ss... The overall game is great, but it's little things like that which are frustrating AF. I mean, in a game like this, there could have been an option to choose where you want the drop ship to land, if they're not clever enough to land closest to you. And speaking of Raids, I've learned and tried and tested a great tactic of using lighter mechs with high speed to hit and run. I've been enjoying myself massively doing that. It's just as fun doing it with bots too, fair play. You just need to remind them to keep following you or they may just end up stopping to fight then getting obliterated, so then you either restart the mission, or you have to pay a hefty bill for repairs 🥴🙄
Doing salvage right out the get-go is pointless if you have low rep with a faction. It's better to get the C-bills in lower levels because you won't get anything good as far as mechs to scrap and sell until you get higher rep points.
i love mid game multi missions its the only time the game Seems almost HARD" when your good mechs get beat up and you have to rely on the B-line mechs that are just not your favorite... Slamers and machine guns for early game get a fire started with flamers and mgs.. LEG all light mechs with in seconds of burning them and FACE flame any mediums to vaporize cockpits..... Flamers and mg's carried me though 99% of mw5's single player campagin. its like having only mgs and flamers on a mech the ai doesn't register you as a threat. they react differently... the moment you got 3 large lazers on a mech they focus you and you take WAYY more flack and fire when you carry high dps weapons rather then the low dps high rof weapons.
How does the salvage on multi-mission contracts work? Do you have to spend the points after each mission or can you roll them forward towards the final salvage payout?
I'm going to have to strongly disagree with #5, new player or not. Depending on the mission types involved and how many 'mechs/pilots you have on hand, multi-mission ops can be quite lucrative, even for new players. As far as I've seen, MMO contracts always grant bonus incentives for every negotiating point you spend, and raid missions can be completed solo if you have a fast 'mech and are good at not running into buildings and rocks. If I'm shopping around for contracts en route to my next quest/campaign objective, MMOs are a great way to make some quick C-Bills, especially if they have one or more raid missions involved.
i just got this off of steam from a sale. The in-game explanation of C-Bill; Salvange; Damage coverage during missions is absolutely horrible. I have no idea which ones i should be putting points into.
Maybe I'm just stupid but cannot for the life of me figger out the contracts where to see them and how to tell if they are easy one's looking for easy scrap just got the game and keep getting hard missions fighting 40 mechs that kill me and don't even know how I get in them
Ight so one day I do plan on getting me a typhoon, only problem is I got like 600 coins. Now I would be willing to sell my tsunami and pulsar for it but that's still only 10,000 coin give or take. How much real life money would I have to spend in order to get it? This is on ps4
How do you ensure mech salvage? I keep on downing medium mechs and despite having 15 salvage points, I'm haven't seen one pop up in the salvaged window yet.
Rngsus bless you. Jokes aside aim for the legs or cockpit to increase your salvage chances for mech chassis. If a mech has a weapon you want don't shoot the part the weapon is on.
Seems to be some randomness involved. I have downed over 6 mediums and not seen one of them show up as salvage. You can't really see a mech you want and leg it then for sure get a chance to salvage it later as far as I can tell.
The random salvage is just another element about this game that make it trash. There’s nothing like putting in the hard work to headshot a heavy mech that I want and instead at the end I get a Locus that was blown to smithereens.
While the randomness of the salvage is a bummer, in the logic of the game world your small mech unit leaves each battle field on your drop ship. You get to pick from whatever your employer could grab, presumably after they take their pick.
@@bluelionsage99 Well In the universe of the game salvage is a back deal. The salvage you nogotiate on the contract. Should be First pick by you. And winners of battles have an in universe right on salvage. That most inner sphere forces honour, So the way the game handels it is irritating.
How are you getting wrecked? I'm guessing that the repair bays randomly placed in the procedural missions as I've never found one at a marked target location or similar.... but then it's rare for me to take huge amounts of damage anyway. If you're charging in head first rather than scouting and softening up a position then that increases the likely hood of coming under heavy fire. If you're in anything bigger than a light mech and have reasonable damage resistance skills light tanks like the scorpion and light turrets are not a massive threat but heavy tanks are always a threat, like the Manticore which has a PPC which can melt you if you're not paying attention or the LRM40 carrier if your mech has a large profile. Move around the edge of a map towards a target area so you secure at least 1 flank, keep at least a 50% throttle set and strafe around picking off targets of opportunity at range, don't position yourself between two or more objectives as you can't defend well at all when you're being shot at from every side, use cover like hills to both approach and manoeuvre around a target area. Also pick your mechs wisely, try to avoid using mechs with torso profiles as you're easier to core, like the Jenner or Locust, although you'll end up using them from time to time the better choice is the smaller hit boxes when possible, if you do have a large profile try to avoid brawling, stick to range and send the rest of your lance in. Only other thing I can think of is make sure pilot skills match the mech they are using meaning give pilots with high missile skill the mech with more missiles ect, and if they have low avoidance then try to avoid giving them large mechs.
@@psyanide1603 Wow, thanks, that actually helped a lot. I was charging in every time, last mech game I played was m2 Mercenaries. Oh, and what the hell is the wrench representing when I strip mechs of armor? I'm thinking it's a bug, since it pops up even after I already repaired everything.
@@codyjackson3616 Sweet man I'm glad I could help. Yeah must be a bug, I haven't encountered that one yet I don't think. I did get a bug that somehow changed my Jagermech into a Jenner while it was repairing and I jumped to a new system. There was a Jenner getting repairs to so I think the game just loaded the bays wrong, a reload fixed it.
Tip #6 Save your money and don't buy it or at a minimum just torrent the game. There are too many bugs, finding the mechs you want takes to long, and finding weapons you need almost never happens. good luck finding any T4 or even worse T5 weapons in the game.
I've found loads of high teir weapons and some fantastic heavy/med/light mechs, you're clearly just sticking around the low Rep conflict zones, grow a pair and do the harder contracts in more advanced systems once you have a loadout of decent mechs. Firestarters are abundant, as are Javelins, Hunchbacks, spiders with 2x med pulse lasers and maxed armour. Pheonix hawks ares also pretty abundant early on, but tbh Centurions are great and abundant too, plus loads of others so I don't know what you're on about, as for bugs I really haven't seen any other than some pathing issues aka ''AI getting stuck'' in terrain, but it's minimal, so I'm inclined to say you're exaggerating greatly. As for no good weapons, I've got loads of teir 4 and 5 plus some insane T3s like my AX AC/10-SLG, which is in my starting Centurion I still use, along with 2x T3 MP Lasers and a T4 SRM6 with max armour. You're incompetence at the game is not the fault of the developer 😂
I'm at the late game stage and I'm going to write some tips that I haven't seen anybody else mentioned, if you find this useful, please thumbs up so more people can benefit from it.
AI Companion guide:
First of all, every guide I watched says: "always press F1 twice to focus fire on your target mech." This is the absolute worst idea, let me explain why.

During late game of heavy or assault mechs, put all negotiating points into damage coverage, you don't salvage anything useful at this point anyway and the repair cost is astronomical.

Whats up with that BLASPHEMY about jumpjets?!?
I'm not the only one, I see my AI pilots flying all over the place when I'm not spamming attack orders.

I usually F1F1 fast mechs first as they are the hardest to kill your self and they die fast so you can move on to the heavy hitters.
thank you. been playing ..and been looking for a tips video...i only knew half these! thank you.
Best tip video I’ve ever watched.
Excellent tips. Thanks!
When and where are repair bays in missions? besides that one with Leon, ive not seen one anywhere.
Rapid fire tips, love it. great content.
:)
Yes, thank you. I skipped over a 20 min. video for this one.
Doing salvage right out the get-go is pointless if you have low rep with a faction. It's better to get the C-bills in lower levels because you won't get anything good as far as mechs to scrap and sell until you get higher rep points.
Thx for vid!
i love mid game multi missions its the only time the game Seems almost HARD" when your good mechs get beat up and you have to rely on the B-line mechs that are just not your favorite...
You get them after each mission and they’re double
Good tips G, are you going to make a video about new Crossout update? Came out today
I’m on vacation I asked coldfire to cover it
Lol yall are co workers now
i just got this off of steam from a sale. The in-game explanation of C-Bill; Salvange; Damage coverage during missions is absolutely horrible. I have no idea which ones i should be putting points into.
Nice vid. By the way, i have not seen a single repair bay in my career so far , other than the one where you meet freeman.
Where are they usually at?
There is only 1 in the tutorial and like 1 very late in the campaign.
Maybe I'm just stupid but cannot for the life of me figger out the contracts where to see them and how to tell if they are easy one's looking for easy scrap just got the game and keep getting hard missions fighting 40 mechs that kill me and don't even know how I get in them
Ah, so this is a real-time controlled version while Battletech is turn-based strategy. I'm having fun in turn game currently...
Yes
Ight so one day I do plan on getting me a typhoon, only problem is I got like 600 coins. Now I would be willing to sell my tsunami and pulsar for it but that's still only 10,000 coin give or take. How much real life money would I have to spend in order to get it? This is on ps4
I did a vid on that
How do you ensure mech salvage?
So, I'm getting rekt in this game, how do you know where a repair bay is? Is it identified in any way?
There was a Jenner getting repairs to so I think the game just loaded the bays wrong, a reload fixed it.
nice
Lance? Lance Armstrong?
Awesome tips. Subbed. Newly found the game
guy is clueless, must have played the game very little before making this vid
Please list your tips so I can add them.
