    Even as a seasoned player, I'm liking this build. I have tweaked mine a smidge with partial Lostech hardware, saved on weight with double heatsinks to use a tier 4 SRM 6 and double ammo, and less heat generating tier 4 Medium Lasers.

      Yeah, its focus is on ease of use which isn't a bad thing even at an advanced level. It's also very relaxing to use Mechs focused on ease of use.

    Sorry for the late reply. I've been a fan of Battletech/Mechwarriors from way, way back. The books/maps/models/sheets...the whole 9 yards as we used to say.
    Pretty sure I've played everything game related on the PC for a number of years. But, then, there was a 10ish year dry period, so, I've just recently gotten back into the groove.
    I used to be a fanatic about the game, but, that was 30+ years ago. As mentioned, MW5 was my re-introduction into genre.
    Relating to the Centurion, it's the mech you get in the campaign, so, there's a familiar bond with it.
    What's funny, I got so used to the configuration of the Centurion, it's hard to develop another "feel", the Dragon-whatever, is just a larger version (60T), which I use mostly.
    Anyways, all of your videos I watch, I "Thank" because you put forth the effort and that must be rewarded, that's my opinion.
    I'm not likely to reply unless there is something worthwhile for me to say. Although, I wonder, replying to your replies helps the youtube brain-trust?
    Anyways, great to see your content. Looking forward to more.
    All the best.
    Cheers.

      It's all good. I always respond to donations, questions and usually longer comments as well, and it's okay to reply or not. No one is obligated to reply to me. I just like to try and stay in touch with my viewers.
      I have some degree of personal investment in MW5 since I thought we lost MechWarrior for the most part when FASA kicked the can. I sort of see this as an opportunity to help revive the Battletech series. I know the TT, novels and RPG have been around, but video games have always been very approachable for new players.
      Hopefully I make a difference.

    Interesting!
    I’ve kept my starter centurion as I like it
    I also fitted an ac10 BF tier 2 kept the LRM 10 but an ST tier 2 medium lasers tier 1 and fitted medium knuckles on the left (all of it was salvaged early on) as I found light mechs like to run in close and that left hook just knocks ten bells out of them

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  7 месяцев назад

      Overall, I think it was kind of a poor choice for PGI to make this the new player Mech. It isn't the easiest Mech to use. It hink a Shadowhawk or a Crab would have been more appropriate.

    • @BushidoBasher
      @BushidoBasher 3 месяца назад

      Did this minus the fist or knuckles. It works early game. Whups enemy mechs easily. Do not salvage the T2 AC/10-BF when starting out. While expensive in the market, it makes up for its value. Just my personal preference.

    • @BushidoBasher
      @BushidoBasher 3 месяца назад

      @@GitGudFoxi feel Shadowhawk is more complicated as a build. Crab is one of those mechs with a very large "easy-to-drop" hitbox. As a beginner, Crab isn't the best mech IMHO.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  11 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah, the AC5 is also a good choice since it technically does the same amount of damage as an AC10 if you look at their rate of fire.
      AC5: 5 dmg x 40 rounds per minute = 200 damage
      AC10: 10 dmg x 20 rounds per minute = 200 damage
      The same is true of their ammo. If you hit with every shot then each ton of ammo would do the same amount of total damage AC5 vs. AC10.

      Well, this is a vehicular combat simulation game. Skills from other shooting games like Fortnite, Call of Duty or Battlefield only translate to a degree into MechWarrior 5.
      So it's a good idea to give yourself room to fail and learn without judgement because the game's movement controls in particular take some time to get the hang of, and you shouldn't expect yourself to immediately get the hang of it.

    Bf-5 , SRM 6pck 2 med laser in the belly. No heat Issues . Extra tonged apply to HS and Armor. The Bf-5 still has enough punch to take a arm off . Only 1 ton of Ammo needed with the Bf-5. Its Lower DMG but Higher DPS over time cause no heat issues.

      I personally wouldn't do a single ton. I use the rule of thumb that is 2 tons of ammo to 1 AC5 meaning if a Mech had 2 AC5s I'd run 4 tons of ammo. The main power of the AC5 comes from its high sustained damage which means holding the trigger down whenever possible.

  • @GitGudFox

    ACCIDENTALLY recorded this in 720p, so it won't look as crisp as it could. I won't make that mistake a second time (knock on wood).
    ANYWAYS, this is the Centurion CN9-A, the one you get in the campaign. It's a rather difficult Mech to use as speed tends to be much more useful in the early game than firepower; however, one of the great things about the Centurion is that it wields weapons of every category: energy, ballistic, and missile. This makes it great for training your pilot's weapon skills. It's also not bad as an AI lance Mech providing you fire support while you play a more aggressive Mech.
    Nevertheless, it's what you start with, so this guide will help the new player understand how the Centurion works a bit better. Use the table of contents below or in the video timeline to skip around!

    I like the Centurion for it's variety of weapons and ranges.
    Its a little slow, a little light on armor and when you lose the right arm you have problems.
    I've probably got over 400 hrs on MW5, so getting rhe Centurion to move and shoot right isn't really the issue. Losing the right arm is lol. Its actually mu go to medium mech. But I'm thinking of a 55-60 ton mech with similar weapons as my preferred loadout philosophy is medium lasers, medium ballistics, and medium missles. Usually LRM.
    So not sure if one of the Dragon's covers that. Plus as you mentioned most of the 55-60 ton nechs go 81 kph. And you can usually get over 400 pts of armor. Only problem, usually that big ass AC is on the right arm. Lol
    200-250 ton missions my usual lance is a Centurion A and 3 Hunchbacks. Either H or J.
    Since the AI has chosen to be a long range shut lord, I too have evolved my tactics to assumevthevmantlevof long range shit lord. LRM's for everyone!
    Although SRM4 +:6's are devastating at close range.
    AC10BF is my absolute favorite weapon. Hits pretty hard, especially as you move up the tiers. Plenty of ammo with 2 tons.
    Love the game.
    Enjoyed the video.

      yeah, I don't consider this Mech to be good for beginners which is too bad since it's your starting Mech in the campaign which I think is really not great because it can give a new player a pretty bad experience.
      I typically run my Centurion with twin medium lasers, an LRM10, and an AC5 and play a mid range Brawler role, but that requires a lot more skill in the early game since you're being rushed down by lots of light Mechs.

  • @cloneengineer1716
    @cloneengineer1716 Год назад +1

    Where's your left hand knuckles? Being able to punch with that left hand for 20-damage a hit is very useful when Mechs get in close, and the "Knuckles" attachment is only 1-ton weight. Take off a ton of LRM or SRM ammo as you only need at most one ton. When you run out of ammo it's a hint to get out of dodge because it's very likely your armor is used up too and your about to be taken out. My optimal build is: 1x AC10bf w/2tons ammo, 1x LRM-5bf with 1/2 ton ammo, 2x Med-Lasers, Knuckles on the left hand and 2 heat sinks, with FULL Armor applied.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  Год назад +2

      I had a knuckle build, but I don't think it's the right choice.
      The difference in speed between the Centurion and the predicted enemy Mechs is too great.
      Most enemy Mechs will be 81 km/h to 113 km/h with few even more being wildly faster scout Mechs and only a few being equally as fast as the Centurion.
      When you're drastically slower than other Mechs, you don't get to choose when you melee. It's up to the enemies to decide to get closer to you.
      That's why no knuckle on this build. Rather have another ton of ammo.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  Год назад +1

      On the other hand, the current build guide I'm working on does feature knuckles, but that's because it's an 81 km/h which can use its knuckles intentionally rather than reactively.

    • @cloneengineer1716
      @cloneengineer1716 Год назад

      @@GitGudFox Yes - but then I find that these light mechs will turn around for another pass and because of the terrain - I can get in a whack with the left-hand, or if I leg damage the mech, it's not running fast anywhere. And that 20pt whack can be a killing blow.......but then you need to watch out as the mech may pop/explode and damage you.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  Год назад

      @@cloneengineer1716 Sure, but remember, the guide here is aimed at a brand new MechWarrior.
      I don't have a problem with your build from just a pure viability perspective. I'd be willing to use it, but it does require more skill to pilot.
      I went with SRMs because they're very new player friendly since they operate like a shotgun which is a nice and easy point and shoot weapon with immediate and visible results.
      The build I made has a low skill requirement. It's easy to use, and it'll do the job.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  Год назад +2

      Right, so first thing, every Mechwarrior teaches a little different. I am a specialist of highly aggressive blitzkrieg style assaults, so I prefer light Mechs, medium Mechs, and fast moving heavy Mechs.
      The enemy AI is programmed to lose accuracy the faster you move to simulate how a human would struggle to hit a fast moving target, and you can dodge WAY more damage than you your armor can withstand through evasion.
      Early Game Light Mech Suggestions: Firestarter (FS9-H) and Javelin (JV-10N). They are cruel close combat Mechs that can punch out enemies much heavier than them... BUT you'll have to learn how to chase enemies without crashing into them. Takes skill to use these Mechs.
      Light Mech Modding advice: Honestly, the Firestarter and Javelin are great the way they are. Remove the jumpjets, harden the armor and add heatsinks.
      Early Game Medium Mech Suggestions: Crab (CRB-20), Trebuchet (TBT-5N), Vulcan (VL-5T), Phoenix Hawk (PHX-1), Wolverine (WVR-6K), Griffin (GRF-1S)
      Medium Mech modding advice: These Mechs all go 81km which is fairly swift. Learn to use flamers/machine guns/small lasers in your small slots, and take typically 1 Large Laser or 2 Medium Lasers as your long range option, but these are all still very aggressive Mechs. Set your TBT-5N to SRMs on chain fire and rapidly blast through smaller targets to clean the battlefield up. The CRB-20 works well with dual large chem lasers and small lasers.
      Early game heavy Mech suggestions: Dragon (DRG-1N), Quickdraw (QKD-4G), and Champion (CHP-2N)
      Heavy mech modding advice: These Mechs also run at 81km, so you should treat them as medium Mechs rather than as heavy Mechs. Mod them similarly with 1 long range weapon and a bunch of low heat close combat weapons. Just be careful, it's EASY to overmod these Mechs and have horrible heat problems. Balance is the skill with these Mechs.
      Obviously, if you can find superior variants, take them, but these are available in the beginning of the game in 3015.

      LRMs are useful on most Mechs. You just need to know how big of a launcher you need.
      You can take it to a logical extreme with a melee Mech. Nothing is more short ranged than a Melee Mech, but having at least 1 long range weapon is useful for destroying helicopters and tanks at a distance. Most of the enemies you fight in the game are tanks, turrets, and helicopters.
