I remember as a kid watching this film in the theater with my parents. My mother, who was raised going to Catholic school with nuns as her teachers, not to mention the music being for her age group...I'd never heard her laugh so hard at anything in her life than this film. Tears streaming down her face during some parts. I can't help but smile when I watch a clip from this film. Hit all the right notes.
As a Catholic, I think there needs to be more of these types of people who can combine their passion (music, art, literature, etc.) and offer them to God. I think that it is wonderful that the main character is able to break out of the typical, classical style choir music (not that there's anything wrong with classical style music)
Absolutely agree !! And I miss those times ...when movies like this were not regarded as weird ... I cannot stand today ' s vulgar movies etc ... I always come back to those movies of my childhood ... was born in the late 80s ...
@@DariaRock1 I am so much older than you. . . And yet there are even better movies that are older than me. and finally Whoopi Goldberg is a classic. She is such a good actor.
I'll second that. I watched it again last week and it's better than anything else I've seen in the past five years. Wish they'd make movies like this these days, instead of preaching at us or relying on cgi.
+Caitlin Pittol-Neville I have a feeling that was not in the script - the way she looks around and then gets back into it makes me think that she genuinely goofed and they liked it so they put it in the film.

Came here this very early morning to remember Ellen Albertini Dow, who passed away last week at the age of 101. (I know, she was the Rappin Granny, but I loved her in Sister Act... she had the "...we are!" solo in this one.) Good night, Ellen, and thanks for the memories.
Whats funnier is her immediate reaction to it. She just throws her hands as if to say "eh whatever, keep going" and the younger sister next to her (forgot her name) us clearly trying to hold back a laugh.
As an ordained Minster, who recovered from the church and became a Dr to help people with disabilities, I continue to find this movie to be Genius level of what church could be. Bravo W. G. Bravo to everyone who helped to bring Sister Act I and II to the hearts of many,

Hi Guilherme I've been doing some research into the choir singers too and I've been scouring the Internet trying to find out which one says "...and I'm gonna!" and it's like she never existed. I've been sifting around and I'm 99% sure the person that sings the line "He's my ideal..." is in fact Beth Fowler (who now is in Orange is the New Black - TV Series). But that leaves us with the question of who sung "...and I'm gonna'!" ? IMDB and Wikipedia aren't any help and we're clearly looking for a women with a Southern American accent.
Some of the singers are true choral singers who are uncredited in the film. From what I read on IMDB, the other missing choir nuns are: Georgia Creighton Susan Johnson Susan Browning Darlene Koldenhoven Sheri Izzard Edith Diaz I don't know which of them are soloists or not.
R.I.P. Ellen Albertini Dow the Rapping Granny from The Wedding Singer. She was also one of the choir nuns in Sister Act and Sister Act 2. She is in this clip singing.
Daniel Solomon No, that was Mary Wickes, who died October 22, 1995, 8 months before hunchback's release. Ellen Albortini Dow just died May 4, 2015, aged 102.
You are right. I am a Catholic--and a three-time Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and I love this movie. There is nothing blasphemous about it. These are nuns, singing about how nothing can keep them from God. That is beautiful. At the end when they shake their shoulders is a tiny bit saucy, but so what? It's like their saying "Yes, I am a woman, but you can't have anything because I am promised to God."
That movie came out when I was 16 years old. I didn't see it until I turned it 23. I remember the very day I saw it too. I was with my grandfather and my grandmother at a friend's house watching it and I was holding a three-month-old name Bailey Nicole Bush. That's why I love singing with these songs when I hear them.
I always liked those four girls who were watching in the audience and who cheered at the end. They first showed up when they heard "Oh Maria" and despite how they looked, how they probably acted and everything, the priest just simply beckoned them to come in and join them. By this time, they seem to have become members of the congregation. 😊 Just shows that all manner of things can bring a person to God if done correctly and with heart.

Sister Act. As simple as that. The one is best than 2 as my opinion but that a matter of taste.
Growing up going to catholic schools since college and been in choirs too i LOVE these movies the music is beautiful.

She was also the old woman from the Wedding Singer I just found out. She has actually been in a lot.
She was the "Rapping Granny" in The Wedding Singer. I thought she was adorable in both movies!
