9:18 As a person moving to Japan next week with a student visa, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Natural disasters are definitely a negative factor and a concern of mine when deciding to move to Japan. I'm so glad you made this video just in time for me to hear it. I can't thank you enough Joey, you're such a good person. 🙏
As someone who plans to move to Japan in the next few years, I know the natural disasters issue but it doesn't shake my will to move there nor I think twice on my decision. If one day they are facing this again, I'm hoping I'm able to help them when I live there.
There is no place safe from natural disasters. But. They really aren't that bad, especially in Japan. The chances of you experiencing one are very low, the chances of you dying or being injured are even lower. Just be sure to keep an emergency kit and understand what types of natural disasters you may encounter in your area, as well as plans on how to deal with them when it happens. Keeping extra food and water is always a good start, try to pick food you normally eat anyway. Mrs Eats also did a pretty nice video where she tried different japanese emergency foods, they seemed good. If you end up living in a tsunami zone, always keep a backpack packed with your emergency supplies, IDs, etc and know where you need to go to get to a safe elevation. By this point you should no longer be worried, if you still are, start practicing "bugging out", so you get used to your route to safety. Start running as if you are out running the tsunami (but safely of course, no running into traffic). Train your body and get comfortable.
@@winterphuntasm the coolest thing is there is a place where it simulates natural disasters in japan so that they can show you how to react in all sorts of situations. I couldn't believe it! it was around a level 3 on the shindo scale I think in Osaka and it was a little hard to stand. I'm not used to quakes but especially on new years its crazy. And people were hurt and even a boy was killed I heard. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their loved ones.

I live in Niigata right across sado, got hit by a level 5 earthquake and several level 3 ones. I currently have no hot water or gas, meaning I can neither shower nor properly cook but dozens of people have no electricity at all in my district and whole areas got destroyed. I am so lucky nothing worse happened to me, it was my first earthquake since moving to Japan and I was scared as hell.

Last thing I read, 48 person have been confirmed dead. Absolutely heartbreaking, I hope everyone stays aware of their surroundings and takes care of people who need help. I still remember watching the news all day back in 2011 and while an earthquake is scary (I've only experienced one with no damage), the thought of a massive tsunami is even scarier. It can take days and weeks before the scale of these disasters is clear, so I really hope the recovery effort is on point.
Thank you for the update Joey. I have been waiting for you or Chris to report on this because I know I can trust the information coming from you guys. Stay safe, hopefully the after quakes aren't to devastating.

Hope you everything get ok in Japan 🙌🏼 Talking about natural disasters, I have to say here in Brazil we live without this kind of worries. We don have earthquakes and Vulcans, or tsunamis. But. In the last years we having more an more floods because the changing climate. Storm and others natural events getting more and more severe
A truly terrible situation. It was about 2:20 AM EST, just after the start of the new year here in Tennessee (US), and I felt a random urge to check for earthquake news. I might well have been among the first people in the US not affiliated with the US government to hear about it. In similar fashion to the 2011 earthquake, the initially-announced intensity was revised upwards within 10-20 minutes of the news breaking (was announced at 6.7 US/Shindō 6+ initially, then revised upward to 7.5 US/7.6 JMA/Shindō 7). And then I saw the tsunami warning perhaps 3-5 minutes after it went up...which is when I realized this was very much for real. I wish I had a Yahoo Japan ID...I would be more than happy to contribute. At 9:04-9:26 , you hit the nail on the head. Natural disasters can happen anywhere and to anyone. My area is particularly prone to tornadoes (had 7 of them hit within 15 km of my house in a single day back in 2011...one of them tracked on the ground for 80 km, killing 13 people, and changing the lives of several thousand others whose homes were destroyed, some wiped clean from the earth). It is of no use embracing the fear of something that could happen...just bear in mind that it can happen and make reasonable preparations for it, and then when the problem happens, answer it with a measure of calmness and courage, and belief that your preparations were a healthy starting point in the rebuilding process.
Very sad yet thank you joey for clarifying what happened. I read 3 nwws sorces. Videos are easier to understand. Condolebces and hope for a bright future.

I'm glad you're keeping us informed, Joey. Thank you! We don't get as much info about these things here in the US. I was so saddened to hear the news about this today.
It was just an hour before the countdown and my Japanese mother told me about the horrible news and told me and my little sister to come down stairs to watch the news and live footage of the earthquake. Of course, I was in absolute shock watching the news lady yell “evacuate, evacuate”. As well as the burning houses and shaking camera. I started crying looking at all of it. My hopes and prayers are with all the people who had to experience this ❤️❤️
There were 5 more deaths due to a plane crash in an attempt to send aid from haneda to Ishikawa 😢 so sad. My first time in Japan and was in Kinosaki when it hit, it has been sad and quite scary so far.

The tone of your video is optimistic and beneficial to the humanitarian needs that occur during a natural disaster. It's straightforward on information. Vouching for an established fundraiser like Yahoo Japan is helpful to those who wish to contribute, knowing their donation isn't going to some opportunistic scam taking advantage of people's sense of charity. 👍
And now a plane has caught fire in Tokyo. All 379 people on board got out safely. But it allegedly hit a plane from the coastguard, and it's not yet clear if they are all safe.
I live in Tokyo, I felt the earthquake. I’ve only been in Japan for a year and it was my first earthquake ever. I was honestly shooked. Fortunately it wasn’t so strong as it was in ishikawa but for it to also cause almost all of honshu to shake is quite scary tbh.

Man I've cried when I heard about it. I been through an earthquake when I was living in Calfornia, USA, and they are really scary. I had trauma for awhile afterwards and was scared of any little movement, took me ages to get over it. I hope everyone is OK in the affected prefecture, and sorry to hear about all the damages and deaths. Definitely keeping the affecting families in my prayers. I love the country and it always make me sad to see it hurt or affected in any way. The tiktoks I've seen looked so traumatizing, so I hope everyone feels better soon and it's wonderful to hear that the community is coming together to take care of each other.
Actually it is safe to move/live to the place where the earthquake hits, this is because the next one would probably be after 100+ years.
@@DM-bs2oz This is not true.
@@winterphuntasm the coolest thing is there is a place where it simulates natural disasters in japan so that they can show you how to react in all sorts of situations. Ik if i move to japan the first thing im going to do is go there so i can hopefully be prepared to react safely to any natural disaster.
Sadly can't access Yahoo in the UK, but what a terrible start to the year. Only just hours ago did two flights collide as one was approaching Haneda today.
I actually live in Toyama. We usually don’t have many earthquakes so this one came as a shock. Thankfully I’ve been in America while the earthquake took place. I’m so happy to know all of my friends and loved ones are okay. There’s still a lot of work to do but I’m great full for everyone’s support.
Prayers for people in Japan, especially those who are affected. This is the worst way to start a new year 🙏
I am glad you, Aki and the boys are safe. once i figure out the donations i will be doing what i can. I am from California and am no stranger to natural disasters i truly hope the people get the help they need and will defiantly be putting out the positive vibes for all.
Edit: Has anyone been able to donate from the U.S. yet? says i need a Japan Number... Thanks for any replys
Maybe ask someone you know who is currently living in JP to send your donations through them.
@@R1L6NNarrow your thinking. It's very unwise to assume he has associates from Japan that he may be in contact with.
@@R1L6N I acutally don't know anyone personally that lives in Japan unfortunately but i appreciate the idea.
@@Xterminatorr I appreciate the your thought process as i do not know anyone, hoping they were just trying to be helpful. i know al ot of us want to help with donations. i put it on Joey's Twitter that maybe he or possibly geeks+ might be able to set something up, but i know more goes into it than just starting a kickstarter or something. hopefully they find away. :D
@@ThatGuy5591 Absolutely
I couldn't believe it! it was around a level 3 on the shindo scale I think in Osaka and it was a little hard to stand. I'm not used to quakes but especially on new years its crazy. And people were hurt and even a boy was killed I heard. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their loved ones.
You don't have to say sorry for making such a grim video so soon in the year mate, you're doing a good thing by bringing awareness and aid to the situation. I'd like to donate though I can't seem to make an account and whatnot, I'll come back to the comment section later if there's some solution.
I pray that everyone is doing okay that was affected by the Earthquake. It's a really sad way to start off the New Year 😪
I live in Niigata right across sado, got hit by a level 5 earthquake and several level 3 ones. I currently have no hot water or gas, meaning I can neither shower nor properly cook but dozens of people have no electricity at all in my district and whole areas got destroyed. I am so lucky nothing worse happened to me, it was my first earthquake since moving to Japan and I was scared as hell.
I hoped things are starting to look better in the last few hours. definitely hoping nothing but the best for you.
@@ThatGuy5591 there are still a bunch of after quakes. Literally just woke up from one. But they are between level 1-3 so it’s manageable. But the whole situation is just really scary.
There's also a plane collided with another that was supposed to send aid to the earthquake victims.... the year started really rough for Japan
When I heard the news, I was so devastated. I'm glad you, your friends and family are safe. My heart goes out to everyone that was effected by it.Thank you for explaining the situation, Joey!
thank you for keeping us informed about the situation. it must have been a rough day :c hoping that everyone will recover soon, and that the rest of the year will be better.
i'll be in japan in march, and since the donation pool will still be up then, i think it's easier for me to donate while i'm there, so will be doing so! saving this video so that i won't forget!
Condolonces to the people of Japan and everyone that is affected by this earthquake. I think we Indonesian can relate to this. When the 2004 tsunami hit us it was almost new year(Dec 26). I hope everyone is okay and rebuilding process can start asap.
Felt the earthquake even here in Kyoto. What a way to start my first New Years in Japan...
Praying for those affected especially in ishikawa 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
May this be the worst this year have to offer. I pray for good tidings from today onwards. Hope everyone in Japan recovers safely from this!
We appreciate the coverage and hope the donations are enough to help rebuild and compensate the loss of the 8 people
If you plan on donating to Ukraine, donate to Japan instead! You'll be funding the saving of lives and eventual rebuilding of infrastructure rather than fund a war prolonged by useless politicians!
48 deaths confirmed by far and much much more material losses
My two little sisters are currently staying with our grandma in the Gifu prefecture. Thankfully everyone from my Japanese side of the family is safe, but they have all (especially my youngest sister who hasn't lived in Japan much) have been shaken up emotionally. It's a terrible way to start the year, but I'm also thankful it happened during a time that mostly everyone is with family.
I heard about this a couple hours ago. I was incredibly surprised. I just wish the families the best. Happy new year…
My heart goes out for everyone. Praying for their safety and peace of mind. ❤
Joey making videos of all of this type of news and trying his best to support the people that are suffering is one of my biggest reasons for him to be one of my favorite content creators
Thanks for reporting and addressing the matter. I was trying to see if Chris uploaded but your video came up.
if i were able to donate i would in a heartbeat. my oldest brother and his bf were just talking about dream trips to japan at christmas and i know they mentioned going to Nigata if/when they go to try and get NGT48 merch for me since i like the 48 groups. my heart goes out to those affected and i pray that the community of japan and those who love japan worldwide are able to help those affected to the best of their abilities.
Hey Joey! Love your message! Been living in Japan myself for half a year now and it was the strongest earthquake I've experienced ever since coming here. Praying for those affected by this disaster and grateful for everyone who has extended their aid. God bless!
Hope you everything get ok in Japan 🙌🏼
Talking about natural disasters, I have to say here in Brazil we live without this kind of worries. We don have earthquakes and Vulcans, or tsunamis.
But. In the last years we having more an more floods because the changing climate. Storm and others natural events getting more and more severe
This is just sad, prayers to japan
Praying for the people of Japan and everyone affected by this tragedy 🩵
That's crazy man, it sucks, thanks for sharing.
Good to hear you & your family are ok.
i am still going to be worried, but im glad to hear from you .and thank you for being so quick to help us get info it helps alot
Thank you for such an informative video. I am in America and we really haven’t seen much footage yet. I will be supporting as soon as I finish this post. We love the Japanese people!
Thank you for this content Joey! I’ve been trying to sort though the news and this has been super helpful. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for making this, i was worried and its nice to know the details from someone who is there, i dont know how much the Danish news would cover this, but most likely not enough..
Stay safe everyone!
Thank you for always keeping us up to date
Thank you for the information Joey. Sending positive vibes to you and everyone hurting ❤️
That new pfp hitting hard with the current trend of videos.. O__O

I’m always thinking about my folks in JP 😢 ❤❤ love y’all folks so deeply in culture that was damaged by life itself
I found out about the earthquake when my cousin wrote on a family message group that he and his family were safe and they didn't feel anything at the time, they aren't close. But when I looked it up and read about it, it made me sad for the people in that area and on January 1st too! I hope that everyone there is safe. I'll donate if I can.
Thanks for this Joey. I live in Hokuriku area but am overseas visiting family. Other than friends, work colleagues and other anecdotal accounts its been hard to get the big picture about the extent of the damage.
Thanks for the update, Joey. I have been looking for news all day. I was in Kanazawa in October, which I totally loved. The photos have been scarce to see how the city is doing.
I'm glad you're keeping us informed, Joey. Thank you! We don't get as much info about these things here in the US. I was so saddened to hear the news about this today.
also if you watch the non japanese channel. it full of misinformations. so better check the japanese news letter with chat gpt translate .
Amazing video Joey about the earthquake in Japan that happened in the new year of 2024 so far, fantastic job.
My condolences to all those who were affected. And those who passed away, may they rest in peace.
My hopes and prayers are with all the people who had to experience this ❤️❤️
新潟県ですが、めっちゃ揺れました。昨夜は高台に避難する人で混雑。高台に向かう自動車て大渋滞でした。これでは緊急車両が通れない。災害時は徒歩が基本。
There were 5 more deaths due to a plane crash in an attempt to send aid from haneda to Ishikawa 😢 so sad. My first time in Japan and was in Kinosaki when it hit, it has been sad and quite scary so far.
Thank you for the updated info! I was on twt and made aware of the quake literally like 20 min after it happened but it's been rough finding translated updates on the damages and such
Cheers for the good video my man. Sending strength from new zealand. Stay strong japan.
Man I saw some footage and it's pretty scary. I hope everyone affected is doing okay.
The report broke my heart keep up the great work and stay safe you all
I'm so sorry that this has happened to Japan. My thoughts and prayers 🙏 are with you all. Please stay safe.
And now a plane has caught fire in Tokyo. All 379 people on board got out safely. But it allegedly hit a plane from the coastguard, and it's not yet clear if they are all safe.
Thank God for the people who supported and donated may God Bless you and keep you Ishikawa will be rebuild AMEN!!!
Great for everyone to work together toward the donation!
To anyone who has one, now is a good time to check your emergency supplies and go bags
Bro im so lucky to be alived right now because i lived there for 2 years and i visited my family 5 days in a another country before the disaster struck and i just heard this news like 2-3 hours ago, fr tho im so lucky that i visited my family because of new year and want to spent some time with them.
We’re glad you guys are okay. My heart goes out to all the people of Japan. It’s not much but I pray for their wellbeing. Bless you Japan. Bounce back and be strong. Kind regards Chris.
Here's an idea, is it possible you can open up donations somehow and we can send money to you and you can post on the japan website since you have access to it, just an idea like maybe when you stream on twitch or something. Stay safe and be healthy!
Happy New Year!!! I'm glad that Aki and you are doing okay! Hoping the people that live in the affected areas are safe and take good care of themselves and their communities! Not the best start to the new year, but hopefully things will get better for y'all! Do your best! And hope the rest of the year goes well for y'all!
God bless to everyone and their families in the affected prefectures. Hope that you all will be safe and stay strong throughout this tough time. Let’s work together to support them ❤
It sadly appears that Yahoo Japan and the donation site itself doesn't work from Europe, so I sadly don't think I'm able to donate. Regardless of my inability to help, I will pray for everyone that was involved in this terrible tragedy, and hope for the best
You are my special 😢
In all seriousness, prayers go out to the people in Japan best of luck and hope for the best for them. ❤
Hello Joey,i hope that you are okay after that massive earthquake that happened in the first day of New Year,i am praying not only for you but for others who survived,it's really sad that some people died others are still missing, but i hope they will be find soon, when saw that the earthquake news on Facebook i was like this😱 i started to pray,so yeah i hope they will recover soon(japanese people)
How awful...my condolences for all those who were affected by the earthquake. My condolences to the families who suffered loss of not only property but of family members or friends. May Ishikawa recover quickly.
I think keeping the video monetised is a good way for international viewers to help with funding, even if the yahoo platform proves to be inaccessible for us. I hope everyone will recover as soon as possible and please keep in mind that people way on the other side of the world are cheering for you! Keep up the good work, Joey! And stay safe as well!
I’m in Kanazawa, and back home and safe now but my house is by the seaside so of course I evacuated immediately when the tsunami warning was issued. I was just in Wajima 4 days before this happened, and it’s heartbreaking to think how many of the people I saw there have been affected by this.
The death toll is over 60 now. It’s tragic.
Thank you soo much for this video, this will really help me to understand whats going on. Japan has helped Sri Lanka so much, when seeing something like this its so devastating
Thank you Joey for clearing up the misinformation. I pray for Japan ❤ 😢 and I'm happy that you are Okey.
Thanks for this. You should get over there. Took me a while to. Kanazawa is well worth a visit. Kenroku-en should be on everyones' bucket list.
Unfortunately Yahoo is not supported in overseas anymore, therefore the page has the same effect. I think its better that You Joey make a funding and donate the money from the funding page to the donation site yourself. I think that would be the best way for a community to support it.
i agree ☝🏻
i was thinking the same, or maybe Geeks+ but i know it can be a lot more than just taking money to donate with out an established medium. but i do hope they can find us away.
Thank you for this update, I hope everyone continues to stay safe out there
I have a friend who is who is in Japan who told me and another friend that we having a group chat about it. He's in Sapporo so thankfully he's okay
Wishing for everyone in Japan safe and quick recovery. There are already deaths when I watched the news this morning.
Was in Kyoto when the earthquake happened and it was scary to see all the buildings and trees moving and swaying. Praying for everyone’s safety.
My prayers are with the people that were affected by the earthquake! Also with those involved in the plan crash at Haneda 😢
Much love from Arizona 💜💜
I hope everyone's okay, anyone in japan.. a rough start to a new year but I hope this year will be you guys' year
Joey, please keep us up to date. This is such a lousy way for Japan to start off the New Year. I remember the 2011 Tsunami. That was also tragic.
Thank you so much for checking in.😊
