This is an example of brilliant set-up and pay-off. What we as an audience have seen so far is a ginormous Decepticon lay waste to a military base without so much as a hint of effort. We know to fear them. The next encounter is a smaller one, about the size of a bus, cause THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF DESTRUCTION, showing that even the small Decepticons are deadly and seemingly invincible. It took an 8-minute skirmish with US soldiers and a pair of frickin' air strikes just to annoy the thing enough to run away. That's why it's such a relief, after only being exposed to evil transformers that kill and destroy without hesitation, to see the Autobots show up and FINALLY beat the Decepticons. This is good directing.
Yeah, after seeing the Decepticons cause unknown amounts of havoc, it becomes all the more cathartic watching the Autobots showing up and fighting back.
There's a reason this movie spawned a huge franchise that fell off. It was a really high quality picture that could really bring a whole slew of different types of people around. War guys, Tech guys, gamers obviously... but even sports guys and car guys could get into it with the early parts of the movie. then the lines like "Left cheek! Left cheek!" and "Sir you need a credit card" are great at bringing the girls back into the movie. Same with the Anthony Anderson subplot. The other movies just aren't good at doing this and instead focus on grandiose nonsense. This was a solid, grounded movie. A single F-16 was seen as something very serious and to be reckoned with. As it should be - we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the things.
this battle took at least 1 hour. 4:18 operator says 2 mins but in 11 seconds drone gets there. a10s and ac130 arent very fast planes, they need time to get there, check everything before take off, load bombs vs. if that base is 8 mins away from scorponok, they would send armors too. also look at sky and shadows.

See what was great about this first film was they established even the smallest of Transformers are tough to take down. They had to use the combined might of handheld firearms, vehicles and team coordination to destroy these things. They totally brush this off in the sequels when they go down with little to no effort, especially the artificial Transformers in Age of Extinction which were built up to be better in every way to the real thing. This movie I don't think gets enough love. I consider it Bay's best since Armageddon (...what you didn't like that one?).
XenoKaiju I totally agree with you man. Transformers are the things that would take teamwork to bring down, and even then it would be difficult with heavy casualties. As for Armageddon...WHO THE FUCK HATES THAT?! That movie is like my all-time favorite (in a list of others of course lol). Transformers ranks high up there though.
I guess Michael Bay was too lazy to make full length fight scenes and used the excuse that "They learned more about Transformers through the years" and that "The small Transformers weren't that important" I mean in ROTF Scorponok dies in 2 seconds, and the Dog thing gets grabbed and pulled apart with no effort. I Frenzy gets shot once and dies, and I forgot what happened to that flat thing made of knives but I'm pretty sure he gets shot and dies right away
I agree, and I think the fact this was our first time seeing transformers made the experience so much more exhilarating...when you see a trailer for a new tf movie now you think "meh" cos we've seen it all before

Typically reserved for things that require whoever's ordering to know what they're doing and take responsibility for it, in this case with danger close means your guys are so close to the enemy that you run a serious risk of hitting them. Alright I just had to comment here. As a medic in the army we’re trained to do a whole MARCH assessment and usually we check for pulse or responsiveness to know whether that person is in shock or not and we treat accordingly. 1:53 I felt so bad for patrick not only did his death look really painful he was established at the beginning and seemed like one of the Main soldiers, he also seemed like a fun guy to be with. I bet it hurt when they did a causality count and put him on it
I noticed something, know he was too late to notice to hear a large sound behind him, including when the billboard fell off, he must had been damaged and lost part of his hearing when blackout attacked the base
What I like about this scene is how genuine it feels. People like to poke fun at Michael Bay movies because of all the explosions (clearly they’ve never seen Disney-era Power Rangers), but they tend to forget he tries to make things as accurate as possible. Case in point, calling in the air strike. From what I’ve read/heard, the military personnel in this scene were told about the situation in the movie and then act as though it was the real thing. What you’re hearing from the AWACS crew, the military personnel from the bunker AND the squad on the ground, is done as if this were an actual combat scenario IRL in 2007
THIS is how the deceptions should have been the whole franchise. It took air support firing 105 Sable rounds designed to melt tank armor just to get Scorponok to LEAVE. And keep in mind, Scorponok is one of the LITTLE guys in the Transformers universe. Others like Blackout were big, bulky, menacing, and WAY HARDER to put down, much less survive against.
Yea. Once DOTM rolled around it took like a couple small rockets and 3 clips to kill one. And then the KSI drones were pathetic. One small rocket from Bumblebee took out 3. Why are they fragile as hell? Just embarassing

@@whiteliesx6426 They're different enough to provide a risk; if anything, that explosion from the missile strike gave him the perfect opening to pierce through because noone could see him past the smoke and dust.
@@RegalRoyalWasTaken maybe its the opposite? The ground is hard enough that Scorponok can unleash his heavy weapons package without fear of sinking into the sand
I wouldn't call people using military jargon and behaving like soldiers porn. That would imply there's something negative about it, and so far, there isn't.
What makes Scoponok so terrifying, isn’t just his physical appearance. No it is his mannerisms in combat, it says on the wiki that Scoponok was often left behind (most commonly by his symbiotic partner Blackout) on battlefields on Cybertron and would ambush Autobot patrols or incursions into certain areas. That is terrifying, which is compounded by the fact that Scorponok may not be entirely sentient, and have some feral semblances which would further explain him being more of a hunter. Heck here is the segment from the wiki completely explaining this: On Cybertron, he was deliberately left behind on battlefields so he could use his chameleon mesh armour plating to blend in perfectly with the background, then ambush any Autobot patrols that would arrive. Thanks to this, Megatron gave him more autonomy than other Decepticons would get, as he admired Scorponok's genocidal zeal. He may retreat, but he'll come back. He kills Autobots. He never gives up. He is a serial hunter acting like a soldier with the genocidal zeal to annihilate anything in his path. If there was a Transformer movie that dealt with horror, Alice, and Frenzy are the ones to have here due to them being smaller and vicious.
Love the way how they make US military handle a Transformer; seems like a good idea of how they adapt to handling one, makes me imagine similar scenes like this where a squad of US soldiers handle something else supernatural (like maybe an organic giant scorpion or a zombie horde) and when it seems troubling, they call an airstrike

Making smaller decepticons AS hard and Deadly as regular Decepticons in the movie is what made this Movie the Best in the Franchise. It just goes to show that the Decepticons were really winning the war against the Autobots on Cybertron. This movie is so fucking good no joke.
What I like the most about this scene is that the villagers actually come running with their rifles to fight an unknown enemy beside the Qatar survivors. Fucking badass.
Michael Bay when he was at his best. The action, the score. Of all the movies I've seen in the theater, I can't remember a time when my adrenaline was pumping more intense than in this scene! "We need air support and we need it now!" 4:48 queue one of the best action themes ever
One of the best scenes I ever watched in Transformers was when the humans were fighting Scorponok and the part when that guy was saying "I THOUGHT YOU SAID THAT THING WAS DEAD MAN!"
Arturo Mena Actually that's 100 percent panic in their faces. Michael Bay told them that the explosions were in close proximity to them, and so they needed to run for lifes
The great thing is this scene is based on something that actually happened to one of the soldiers Michael bay spoke to (obviously sporponok wasn’t there but the telephone call was a true story)
fun fact: the reactions of the actors when running from scorponok were genuine due to the fact the prop piece that the film crew was using was dangerous to be around
I hate Michael Bay with a burning, fiery passion, but DAMN! can he direct epic action scenes! Too bad he completely fucks up every time he has to direct character.
Hit it with two BRRRRRT bursts from A-10 chainguns, 105mm artillery shells, air to ground missiles, 40mm Bofors shells, and the fucker STILL comes back a couple movies later! God!

The bit of the score which starts around 4:30 in combination with the military mobilizing the air-support is just so incredibly badass. I really could watch it over and over again.
Fun fact: Michael Bay didn't tell the actors what they were doing to create the affect of Scorponok and told them all to "run and not stop overwise you can be seriously injured" so their reactions and way of running is a genuine reaction of fear
I forgot just how good this scene was. It actually feels like what a real military reaction would likely be to a giant killer robot, even down to the dialogue. God I wish they focused more on these soldiers rather than the civilian characters.
I never noticed this detail or forgot about it, when they zoom in on Scorponok we see from his eyes and face that he's feeling unpleasant stings from the gunfire and later we see Scorponok hiding behind a destroyed car shortly after so the bullets won't distract him so much.
As gratuitous as the military scenes are, this movie did an excellent job building up the Decepticons as this massive threat. They are TERRIFYING here, and even for one of the smallest the Air Force still needs every trick in their arsenal just to drive him off.
6:01 "No freaking way that thing's still not down." "Spooky 3-2, use .105 shells! Bring the rain!" "Be advised, ground team is requesting .105 sabot rounds."

@@reuben3811 Scorponok retreated cause of the AC-130
And then we got TLK where decepticon get bodied first fight they’re in.
And their technological advances like blackout and frenzy taking in info like fuel
this battle took at least 1 hour.

I agree...the subsequent movies depicted nothing more than the gang rape of the Transformers franchise.

@@razorbackblood06 Usually whenever phonetic letters or numbers come after someone says authenticate after an order it's a short nonsensical code that everyone present knows and signals that whatever was said was meant as a serious and immediate order. Typically reserved for things that require whoever's ordering to know what they're doing and take responsibility for it, in this case with danger close means your guys are so close to the enemy that you run a serious risk of hitting them. Without those little codes you get a time delay of the operator being forced to restate the order and ask the commander to repeat it back again before relaying/carrying it out because of how dangerous whatever it is, is. Officer: "ROLL IN STRIKE PACKAGE BRAVO ON UNKNOWN TARGET."
Operator: "Please confirm roll in strike package bravo on unknown target, warning situation is danger close."
Officer: "Danger close acknowledged, roll in strike package bravo on unknown target, order confirmed."
