The sunshine girl is sleeping She falls and dreams alone And me I am her dagger Too numb to feel her pain The world is full of noise yeah I hear it all the time And me I am your dagger You know I am your wound I thought I heard you whisper It happens all the time I thought I heard you whisper It happens all the time She whispers while I'm sleeping: "I love you when you smile" I didn't really lose you I just lost it for a while The world is full of noise yeah I hear it all the time You know I am your dagger You know I am your wound I thought I heard you whisper It happens all the time I thought I heard you whisper It happens all the time
I will vv likely delete this but.. I had a relationship w the singer who (in CURRENT time) co-headlines with Neil. (Slowdive's male singer). But I didn't know this at all when I listened to Slowdive. Years after the singer, I traveled to Oxford just to drink the water that Slowdive/Radiohead (& now Glass Animals) drinks. I had become an artists's model for a painter's college on the Cali coast & would listen to Slowdive on one earbud, strong light from one side, and staring into the comforting shadow on the other. In a hypnotic loop, as everything else was quiet except for brushstrokes. It makes me believe in magic, that the person that I met the week that I finished a deep, "find a romantic partner" meditation series -- who oddly was one of my top 10 singers at the time, but I didn't know his face (usually you know the faces of your favorite musicians, yes?) pursued me alone in a lights-out, empty mega-stadium where we were on a movie set ) -- and is CLOSE with Neil, who is 6,000 miles away from his friend who is 1,000s miles from me. Whose window looked like a living painting - framing only moving mist and black rock of SF Bay. How did we part - after a teary afternoon in Laguna Beach (him teary, not me. He slept around & I had distanced myself from him for this reason *without* telling him, just burning it to him w my eyes as I could not speak, I was also emotional but not crying lol. I wasn’t the one with the dick problem.) We parted. Ok, then I finally actually saw him sing & play (for the FIRST EVER time private or public) in his sold-out show in San Francisco (hadn't even seen a music video of his lips moving). He didn’t know that I'd be there at all. It was a whole flight away. It was COLD outside. In this packed, warm, triple-story venue he sang, from beginning to end, directly to me. THEN we parted, months later, after one more meeting where he played his uniquely-tuned guitar in bed and sang gently as I begged my wide eyes to stay open, but fell asleep. Then next year I brought my new MONOGAMOUS YAY boyfriend over for a candlelight dinner at the singer’s place. He called a girl so there would be four of us. Bittersweet. Both happy to see each other. That was the last time I saw him. I didn't know then this music could be perceived as sadness, I thought it was "beautiful music,"” 4AD style music. Until Elliott. It was only recently that I realized that Rachel Goswell (the backing track you're singing with, Slowdive's female singer & one of my most direct vocal inspirations) had recorded with this singer-we-won't-name BACK THEN! SHE was the Rachel Goswell on this singer's CD he gifted me. And Neil may never know that his co-tourer had a girl that before he ever met her, flew to walk along the river Isis singing Phaedra. Ok Casper, this cover is in every way as wonderful as the original. Your arrangement HEALS some of the things that were presented in the song imo, like a champion taking on a torch 🌸
I can’t stop myself from constantly coming back to this cover. It is absolutely amazing his voice is beautiful and the guitar accompanied it so beautifully. This cover makes me cry because of how heavenly it sounds and how the song makes me feel. Amazing.

The sunshine girl is sleeping
She falls and dreams alone
And me I am her dagger
Too numb to feel her pain
The world is full of noise yeah
I hear it all the time
And me I am your dagger
You know I am your wound
I thought I heard you whisper
It happens all the time
I thought I heard you whisper
It happens all the time
She whispers while I'm sleeping:
"I love you when you smile"
I didn't really lose you
I just lost it for a while
The world is full of noise yeah
I hear it all the time
You know I am your dagger
You know I am your wound
I thought I heard you whisper
It happens all the time
I thought I heard you whisper
It happens all the time
