it still amazes me how people didn't "get" them back in the early 90's.. (well some of us did, but everyone else was scratching their heads). I've never gone more than a few days without some Slowdive since seeing them live in 1992.
Best Band Ever in my opinion. I'm 26 years old. Only seen them since the reunion. Seen them 3 times. Twice in a small intimate venue and once in a large field. Didn't make a difference. Slowdive sounded incredible in both settings. Unreal band! Friendly people too! X
I swear they weren't marketed properly here in the US! Was very well aware of bands like MBV and Dinosaur Jr in the early 90s, but Slowdive didn't get the push that they deserved. Thank God for the comeback!
Honestly any band that released music around the early 90s and wasn't grunge just had very, very bad timing. But now that grunge is almost basically over now, we can appreciate these songs more.
@@RobotPilots yep. Just ask Teenage Fanclub, the “other” best band of 1991. The ironic thing about them was, they were very not part of any “Bandwagon”
@@erickguadarrama808 I'm not having this argument again. I now realise that some people consider "pop" a bad word. I don't. It may come down to culture, age or ideosyncratic taxonomy. I don't care. I believe Slowdive is a great indie pop band. If you believe otherwise, I won't argue with you.
qupp75 I’m not trying to argue with you at all but the literal definition of pop music is popular music and slowdive definitely isn’t popular it’s not a bad thing also pop is a really big umbrella term so we have other words to be more specific like shoegaze dream pop (it’s called dream pop because of the style not popularity)
Ya. While tuning into some music theory, I was introduced to the concept of "overtones" and its effect on sound. My sense is that from 15:53-15:55 and from 16:11-16:14, the overtone effect was most pronounced. The example presented by the teacher was a toy whistle on a string flung about circularly overhead generating frequencies which when overlapped at particular intervals produces the effect.
I remember watching this video in 2013 thinking this was as far as we'd get to see Neil shredding again. A year later Slowdive was back out of the blue.
Alison Listen close and don't be stoned I'll be here in the morning 'Cause I'm just floating Your cigarette still burns Your messed up world will thrill me Alison, I'm lost Alison, I said we're sinking There's nothing here but that's okay Outside your room your sister's spinning But she laughs and tells me she's just fine I guess she's out there somewhere And the sailors, they strike poses The TV covered walls, answer slowly With your talking and your pills Your messed up life still thrills me Alison, I'm lost Alison, I'll drink your wine And wear your clothes when we're both high Alison, I said we're sinking But she laughs and tells me it's just fine I guess she's out there somewhere
Hello, in june 2014, I was here, with nice guys from Belgium, and south America, we made selfies with Slowdive band and Rachel, sympatical people, thanks to french public, it was amazing, a good souvenir, for me, thanks, to post this vidéo on RUclips, thanks, bye,
Slowdive & Ride played in Denver around 2016. And only 3 months apart. It was a perfect summer of shoegaze euphoria The Dandy Warhols also played in an intimate 250 person venue that summer It’s amazing when the universes collide harmonically 🤗🤓
Outstanding. I had never heard the band version of Alison. Also the 'naked' versions of 40 days and Dagger are so beautiful, I cannot help but let the face of someone who has broken my heart do it again.
awesome versions, I've been listening to Neil and Slowdive since pretty much the beginning, they are the only band that i listen to after all these years still give me the chills, just incredible music, sadly under-appreciated
C'mon! Neil knew he was wetting all those panties once he started playing Alison! JA, no need to pretend that it was some sort of a fluke! They knew what's up... AND we all thank them for it! YEAH!
Keep listening to this brillant performance. Can someone recommend me a minimal setup that will enable me to tune in something similar effect that he is using on Dagger, with the echo/reverb. Im looking at one single guitar amp with built in effects that can do this, or an acoustic guitar amp + suitable effectsbox. I just have to go wild here in my living room.
I love the way he did these, but doesn’t it seem like this rendition of Allison sounds like the theme music for a 80-90’s sitcom? Slowdive is in my top 5 greatest bands by the way
Every time I see lyrics for 40 Days it always says “If I saw something NEW…”. Pretty clear from this recording that it is, indeed, “If I saw something GOOD…”
Also everything says that you said you’re always sleeping but if so I’ll be leaving and Neil commented on my post today correcting me apple music and genius really need to fix it
0:50 Alison

Neil Halstead is a fucking legend!!
I’m pleasantly surprised to be floored by this. His tunes have really stood the test of time. They still hit you in the chest.
total fucking ledgend!
The warmest, softest, most poetic voice ever
Listen to The Smiths. Morrissey has such a soft, poetic voice
@@noverrr4508 moriessey is overrated as fuck
Neil's voice in Alison kind of reminds me of Nick Drake
Duuude yes!!
i hear that too!!
Dagger destroyed me
"Alison" may be the most beautiful pop song ever written. This version certainly doesn'tdisprove that thesis.
Alison is my all time favorite song. This a great version of it.
Did you say pop lmaoo

Us supporting and joining Neil Halstead for Alison last year, for a laugh. It's a different tuning and rhythm to the ones used on the original song.

You nailed it!
oh god i'm listening to this really loudly with really great headphones and I think i'm DYING?!!?
Yes quality of sound is very good on this video.
Allison Redlich You’ve got the best first name ever
youtube find of the month for me tonight
Something about this caught me off guard and brought me to tears. Other song writers don't quite get to where Neil is.
man....good stuff....starting to realize how great '90's music was.....

Power of 90s British Indie
It’s that voice isn’t it?
Took me back 30 years on the spot as soon as he opened his mouth.
God bless you, Neil.
dagger wow!
Eclectica best version in definitely. Love how he uses finger-style and fx.

i am your dagger . you know i am your world

Puedo imaginar el concierto, y seguro que fue como lo describes.

Alto crack, pura envidia de la buena. Que suerte tienen algunos.

I absolutely love this. It is so reminiscent of Nick Drake.

Incredibly tight wonderous & exceptional ❤🎉😍🌷

OK so how on earth does it pay for Neil to have such a huge band behind him live?
I stole the part from 15:35 to the end for my ringtone, I couldn 't bear not having this beautiful moment in my mind/ears everytime
Brilliant live version of Alison.
That "Dagger" performance cuts until it hits bone. Love it
