- Kazushi Sakuraba is, in my opinion the best MMA fighter of all time. Watch and enjoy! join mmafan.com group on facebook or visit www.mmafan.com You can see the full version of Pride Decade there; www.mmafan.com/...
Sakuraba is one of if not the best fighter I've ever seen, yes Fedor is also another without a doubt but Sakuraba was technically the best, superior catch wrestling to dismantle the Gracie's and so humble win lose or draw.
Don Frye looking like Tom Selleck and sounding like John Wayne.
I wish there was someone that still fights like sakaraba
warpedsavage Yeah, he was an intelligent fighter with a lot of heart. I miss him, too.
NOONE EVER HAS OR PROB EVER WILL. I THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY SAKURABA IS ONE OF A KIND.
When faced with a goddamn modern day Samurai , Roycie looked llke a master of ....what !? jiu-quit-su !!! LMAO
There really isn't
mayhem fight sakuraba, they have similar gimmicks
Admirable act by Renzo for giving Saku the credit due him. Yes, from among the Gracies, Renzo showed that he is the best in matching up Saku. Great warriors.
Renzo is the coolest gracie by far
john dyer YES BUT REZON IS ALSO DELUSIONAL TO A POINT WHERE HE THINKS GETTING HIS ARM POPPED ISA VICTORY LOL ... GRACIES DONT TAP BRO
It was a victory for him in the sense that he got to test himself on whether he could keep mind over body and not tap.
Rickson would be the best match-up.
Sakuraba's adaptability, unorthodoxy and stamina are phenomenal.
Sakuraba the best! The gracies needed to be humbled and they were humbled. They put there name on a Japanese martial art and in the end defeated by a japanese when they were in their prime. Destiny.
Well, except for the inconvenient fact that Sakuraba fights as a catch wrestler, and was trained by catch wrestler Billy Robinson, not jujutsu.
+ManifoldSky
Catch wrestling, jiu jitsu etc it's all just moves dude
SuperAussieOi Which is relevant to the original post how, exactly?
ManifoldSky
If you knew about the lineage of BJJ, you should know that Count Koma travelled the world and picked up catch wrestling techniques, which became a part of what he taught the Carlos Gracie as well. So traditional Jujutsu and Judo are not the only roots of GJJ.
FightFan2683 First of all, your comment is totally irrelevant. The issue has NOTHING to do with the Gracies, and everything to do with the fact that Sakuraba did not learn jujutsu or judo, just catch.
More importantly, you would do well to better research your history. Maeda did NOT teach the Gracies any catch. Nor did he even teach them and jujutsu. All he taught them was the basics of judo. Maeda was NOT a jujutsuka.
But again, none of this is relevant, because what the Gracies knew or didn't know has nothing to do with my comment.
He's 5"10 heavy smoker walking around at 180-190 all natural and fights at the same weight against a bunch of roided up beasts at lhw and hw.
A prime and healthy Sakuraba cuts and fight at ww would school GSP I bet.
Agree to disagree. I'm a huge Saku fan but George's striking and takedown defense would be too much. Georges would jab him to death
@Alex Amaya Saku or GSP?
@Alex Amaya yeah I agree with you. GSP can STILL negate most modern fighters wrestling IMO.
Sakuraba if continued to fight only in welterweight would be the greatest, period.
Based on his reach, I think he's more suited to fight in LW division. I could see him dominating UFC LW division in his prime beating the likes of Jens Pulver and Sean Sherk. Then he would lose his belt to a young BJ Penn via KO around 2008.
He has beaten 7 UFC champs, Newton, Royce, Shamrock, Randleman, Rampage, Belfort and Mezger!
that is more champs then Jon Jones! and as a WW really, I mean he weighted in with a little love handles at 185 (but in great cardio shape) without those love handles and cutting weight he would be a dominant welterweight and would be a dominant champ during his whole career.
Yeah Bee Fr man he’s one of a kind
Sakuraba, Wanderlai, Cro Cop and Fedor made me into the mma fanatic I am now.
Cro Cop *
Cro Cop all the way.
+ minotauro + shogun. Best of Pride!
I like how Renzo claims he was winning the fight until the last 17seconds when Saku broke his arm and Renzo won because he didn't officially tap.
oh, the Gracies! Time has passed them by.
LOL
+agg adfgawdgv I didn't interpret Renzo's comment about winning to mean "I won the contest". It struck me as an expression of admirable humility - acknowledging that he lost the event (which he did very clearly in his post-fight speech) but also perceiving that in this loss of a fight was a lesson learned - and so a prize was nevertheless won.
Ch'eng Man Ching, one of the men who popularized T'ai Ch'i Chuan in the West, wrote about this sentiment - how we can perceive the times when we fail as gifts, as they usually bring a lesson. That's the sense with which I interpreted Renzo's comments.
That said, I'm with the vast majority of people posting here about admiration for Sakuraba. He's amazing.
He literally said: even tho he won, I won the fight. What a POS brasilian arse
Renzo should of had his arm broken 😂
@@callactm14 I think he meant he won in that the fight against sakuraba pushed him to a place he had never been. As in I fought this guy and he won but I pushed myself farther then I ever have so I won in a warriors spirit kind of thing.
But he lost.
Kazushi Sakuraba....He is living Hero!
Dude could you imagine a 23 year old Sakuraba competing today in the UFC. Healthy he'd cut to 170 god damn that'd be sick!!
at 23 he'd be fighting around 150lbs or lower. he wrestled at around 150 in college.
He was probably the best modern day catch wrestler. If he could teach catch wrestling to the world then I think we would see catch wrestling go way up in popularity.
I've seriously been into mma since before it was called mma. And, Sakuraba is one of my all-time favorite fighters. Amazing. And, Renzo is a motherfucker. He's one of my favorites, too.
Back in the late 90s - early 2000s, Pride was the best. Better than the UFC.
Sakuraba was even back then my favourite MMA fighter of all time.
The Japanese are so disciplined and I think that calm and disciplined nature was a big part of his success.
I wonder when the Gracie's are at family gatherings. And talk about all the fights they had and who they beat. I wonder if they skip talking about sakuraba. Lol 😂😂😂
Kazushi Sakuraba. One of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. You will be missed. RIP.
Marshall Street He died? When?
Kazushi Sakuraba is my HERO!!!!!!!
Thank you for upload!! uploadありがとうございます!!
"Measure myself against him again... or maybe have my other arm broken."
When a guy like Sakuraba can make a Gracie into a good sport, that is a real accomplishment.
Renzo is the most humble one as far as I have seen. Gives respect self critical, owns his failures and weakness's.
He is the beast
Sakuraba is my favorite fighter of all time.
he should be an UFC hall of famer for what he has done for MMA, ufc tournament champ, gracie hunter and just his whole persona
He did fight in the UFC, UFC Japan where he beat a HW brazilian blackbelt, and during his PRIDE and other org days he has beaten 7 UFC champs, Newton, Royce, Shamrock, Randleman, Rampage, Belfort and Mezger
***** Yea he did Conan Silva via double wristlock AKA kimura
Yeah Bee THIS IS THE SAME UFC THAT SAID OKAMI GOT LUCKY LOL THE SAME UFC THAT SAID FEDOR ISNT THE GREATEST LOL THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WILL KNOW SAKURABA WAS SPECIAL
+Chase “Crash” Doman he won the ufc heavyweight tournament i just looked it up i didnt think he fought there but i just watched him win it on video
+rigo hernandez Dude consistently won against *champion motherfuckers* who weighed anywhere between *20 to 50 pounds more than him.* Sakuraba had a massive fighting intellect and trained his ass off to be able to manhandle bigger people who didn't have his grasp of physics or commitment to winning.
royce always looks like he has an upset stomach. great fight.
I started learning freestyle wrestling in japan and I trained with a team that had Shinsuke Nakamura and later met Sakuraba and Fujita..I learned some techniques that I still use to this day from them, even when i went to 2008 olympics.
thanks for posting this video.
This needs to be three hours long.
one of my favorite fighters or all time! too bad he was way ahead of his time. alot of new mma fans should check out his early fights....skill, creativity, showmanship, courage & heart!
thank you very much for uploading thislakvi22. 111 likes and 0 disslikes. that tells u how much mma fans respect sakuraba.
Renzo Gracie has the honor of an entire continent and family watching his back. Him and Saku represent the greatness that this world will one day attain.
Its 2020, April. Sakuraba is still entering and sometimes WINNING grappling competitions.
Great documentary! What he has accomplished, would take many of us, many lifetimes to accomplish. 👍
Excellent video! My favourite fighter of all time Saku
The Gracie's are awesome. Sakuraba showed the world the Gracie's are human and beatable.
Renzo Gracie showing humility. He's the only decent one of that bad bunch of scuzzballs.
i love the respect they show here.. i miss the old K1 and Pride..
On the night that Kazushi Sakuraba fought Hoyce Gracie, he ALSO went on to fight Igor Vorchanyn, and fought till exhaustion. Igor was 5'8" 230 Pnd Natural KO artist with 40 freaking wins.
Kazushi Sakuraba was probalby the best catch wrestler in MMA history & 1 of my favorite fighters, & once he started training BJJ under the great BABU his grappling skills tightened up & became elite! PRIME SAKU FTW!
what gracie was the humble guy who got his arm broken, what fucking awesome guy. humility is like one of the greatest attributes of fighter can have. he really saved the gracies face.
Rickson vs sakuraba would be an incredible match!!
@MattSingh the injury came from Sakuraba's kicks. His knee was also tweaked by Saku's kneebar and the addition of the lowkicks.
Renzo seems to be the only gracie that seems capable of complimenting a rival.hence is why he is my fav gracie.
Yes, its the heart that is most important. I agree with you.
one of my favorites. hands down, saku is legend!
Saku was one of the most innovative fighters there was, he was one of the first true well rounded Martial Artists.
oh this wasn't a sakuraba documentary, its a really cool pride documentary that partly highlights sakuraba...look it up very very cool
WOW.. mad respect for Renzo after this.. But Saku will always be my favorite. My hero!!
Sakuraba is a legend, but Renzo is a legend just for saying what he said after the fight. Mad respect for him. Saku is one of the greatest of all time. Renzo used to be one tough Mother,& I doubt he is soft now.
props to renzo for acknowledging saku and giving him the credit that saku truly deserved.
Some say hes fading but he will always be regarded as a legend of this sport .
wow, what a fighter he was. Love his way of fighting!!!
So.. who said pro wrestlers didn't have a chance in mixed martial arts?
Gustavo11pr wasnt just a pro wrestler..
saku is a CACC-Wrestler like Barnett.
Catch wrestling is pro wrestling's origin bro so yes it is pro wrestling. And in fact pro wrestling is strong!
@@coachmikesfilmroom3111 he is legit wrrstler not and actor
Wrestlers have always given BJJ guys a hard time, they just needed good striking.
@@oneguy7202 you should know about history of pro wrestling. What it is today is not it's reality. Wrestling promoters changed it.. IT was real earlier. That's why it's still called a sport.
everyone can talk shit about sakuraba...he beat amazing fighters, he earned the wins and the respect of all the fighter he fought.
Very nice film. Anyway he is legendary, well contributed person modern mma.
"Many people make excuses when they lose. I have only one: he was better than me tonight. I wish him all the best."
All fighters should learn to conduct themselves like Renzo and Sakuraba.
Quinton Jackson is saying have everyone is making excuses and then he starts doing it!
The fact of the matter is that the most effective martial arts do come from Japan, not China as many assume. While Gracie Jujitsu has been very effective in many ways it is not real good Jujitsu. It is like Kempo Karate, it has been bastardized. One of the hallmarks of Gracie Jujitsu is the take down where they run at the feet. Well if you know that they are going to put their face down and run at your legs, you can make sure their face runs into your knee. This is what happens to the Gracies early on each time and it is actually amazing they have the heart to keep fighting. It simply a matter of the guy knows what the Gracie fighters are going to do. Though I have seen many fighters like Bos Ruttan for example do well with Brazilian tactics there really are some problems with it. They are too quick to want to fight from the bottom, they oppose force with force. Regular Japanese Jujitsu is clearly superior, while Brazilian Jujitsu is more Jujitsu mixed with street fighting.
Renzo is such class fighter, nicest of his family
@ElKeitho because he's loves fighting more than you love your mother, father and brothers combined...he's been on more wars than the balcans and left more blood, sweat and tears in the ring than any of those sporstmen of today, Sakuraba is and old school warrior and his legacy exceedes the mma world
i think sakuraba is no 1..not royce garcie..
renzo is right, he did have the best chance of beating saku..he is truly a class act and on another note..I could never get tires of saku's entrances..simply amazing
@MrLinder He trained at Takada dojo, though Nobohiko Takada wasn't really his teacher. He learned catch wrestling under Billy Robinson as did Takada. Later he also trained at the Chute Box academy with Wanderlei Silva, the Rua brothers n such, where he learned more about striking and taught his submission style.
Saku made Pride, he's the reason for the MMA boom of that era.
My best inspiration
Tough, smart and fearless, welcome to Sakurabaaaaa!
Sakuraba destroyed the myth of Gracie Jiu Jitsu superiority. He showed the world how to stuff their very basic takedowns, how to beat them at grappling and how to beat them standing. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, while formidable in sport, is not practical fighting(I can't wait to read all of the hate). Sakuraba was(is)a true MMA practitioner and not just a submission fighter, like most BJJ fighters(who only give passing study to the complete Bruce Lee inspired MMA philosophy).
What is practical? Lol. I started out learning subs from bjj but I love learning from any grappling art. From an mma standpoint bjj alone will not be successful now a days. Everybody knows the art. It's still a great self defense art.
@markywestside those were actually GJJ/BJJ matches against Santana. Santana being a student of Helios after all. but ok we count those as Vale Tudo/NHB so it goes from 48 years to 45 years.
7:12 one of the greatest historical moment of MMA history!!
Viva Sakuraba!!!
Respect. Legend.
He fought anybody at any weight and some were charged as a donkey and didn't care about preparation at all.
He never pratised boxing and all.He smoked, drunk and all.
He just didn't care.
He was special.
wow renzo was great sport , i love sakuraba
I bow to this man
Credit to Renzo Gracie for being so gracious, he is an MMA legend in his own right.
because there is a fight when Ryo Chonan doin Submission (flying leg scissor heel hook) to Anderson Silva (PRIDE Shockwave 2004)
and josh barnett speaking from the same position to the same interviewer about the submission !
Yes..anyone no matter how great they are can have a bad day in the ring and lose a notch on their fight record. Yet there is no doubt Sakuraba was a "Gracie hunter & killer"" showing the world proof that the Gracies although very skilled are still not without flaw and can be beaten!
The greatest of all time and will always be.
@Paremco He's saying that he won symbolically. Saku pushed him further physically than anyone else had to that point, and he didn't tap. So he proved to himself just how far he can, and he's thankful Saku, a competitor he really respects, was the one that pushed him there.
I think that says a lot about the fight, given that Renzo didn't get many easy fights. Hell, right out of the gate he got his ass handed to him by Shoji! That one was called a draw simply because it went the full half hour.
LEGENDARY MARTIAL ARTIST
Still enjoyed it.
One of the elite fighters of all time
Amazing guy.
@panther2552 I think a factor that has somthing to do with it is because catch wrestling is the cornerstone of traditional british pro wrestling and so can be learnt in the more trad british pro wrestling gyms( due to the wrestling booth tradition of wrestling punters between worked bouts), but to be honest im guessing most mma guys wouldnt want to be seen dead in a pro wrestling gym.
Dang, The egos on the Gracies are so huge sometimes
he trained at Billy Robinson's snake pit along with Takada and the rest of takada's wrestling crew
dont forget ken shamrock, randleman, arona, antonio rogerio nogueira, mezguer, vovchanchyn, braga and belfort, he fought as a middleweight against heavyweights and light heavyweights in the early days thats why he has taken a lot of abuse to his body, he could still compete like in his prime days if he would have fought people of his same weight like he is doing now since the beggining, but in pride early days was to fight against anybody
@MattSingh1 when i refer to what Fedor, GSP and Couture said. they were asked who's the best fighter they ever saw. they weren't asked about him in particular and could have named whoever they wanted. I never mentioned record actually. I mentioned competition. walking around at 185 he's fought the very best in the biz no matter the weight diff. as for dynamite 02 even if true about only 72k that'd still be a record for a combat sport. it was 100k stadium that looked packed though.
Happy Birthday Sakuraba.
おめでとうございます, IQ-Wrestler!
his career was so mishandled, Saku only fighting MW or perhaps even WW he would have been undefeated for a long time and a great champion, instead he had to fight top level LHWs and HWs, ffs he weighted in at 185 with two playstations under his track suit
He wanted to fight the bigger guys. He always wanted to push himself
NovacloudxD moronic management (which had no concern for fighters well being) He was a good company man never arguing
Yeah Bee That is not true at all, Sakuraba was the one asking for the fights, this is well commented threw the media....Also it isnt like Kazushi stop fighting big guys after Pride was done....or before he even fought in pride. To the japanese beating the bigger stronger opponent with skill is a HUGE part of martial arts, most the arts they love are about leverage and position and that is why you heard 50 thousand people cheering heavily for wrist control something a American crowd could never understand ever.
Sakuraba was Japanese and he embodied this mentality matter of fact he is known for being a lover of Japanese martial arts animes and videogames....which most stories depict a tiny dude who threw skill beats greater, bigger, stronger oponnents.
doesn't matter if he wanted it himself. his coaches/managers should have looked out for him.
as a welterweight he would have been GOAT
Yeah Bee Right the martial artist desire to fulfill his dreams dont matter.....he is one of the goats....those fights are even more impressive....
It was great of Renzo to say those things about Sakuraba.
@ElKeitho not about your family, not about loving, is about you can never determine who's the better fighter(they are different and in different times), but you can easily determine a fighter you can respect above everything else because he embodies the history of the last 20 years of fighting, an icon of class and estoicism, that nor gsp nor penn can claim. Being the best in martial arts is not about being able to kick everybodys arse, in mixed martial arts is no different
Sakuraba is a true MMA legend.
Very impressive
@supermadman Catch wasn't being practiced in ancient Greece. It was influenced by ancient Greek wrestling.
Modern Catch wrestling has had a lot of different influences. Even from martial arts that are only a few hundred years old or less.
Best fighter of all time. No one had the creativity or entertainment value he had, before or after.
Legend!
JAJA ja renzo and his family needs sakuraba for teach them be humble
@Arcturistheballer Royce use to use the gi very much to his advantage. He used it to aid in chokes n such. Saku was smart enough to use it against him.
so he's basically the Ali of MMA and Fedor is the Lenox lewis of MMA
Bas Rutten is the Tyson of pancreas
@ElKeitho umm he was undefeated for 3 years while fighting top ranked opponents. he holds wins over 7 UFC champs, 3 kings of Pancrase and a Dream Grand Prix Champ. Randelman, Belfort, Royce, Royler, Renzo, Ryan, Ken Shamrock, Funaki, Minowa, Rampage, Netwon, Braga, White, Mezgar. His losses came to elite fighters much larger than he was like a Wandy who was 30lbs heavier. the fighters you mentioned are great yet none of em other than Fedor have fought elite fighters above their weightclass.
Yeah Saku's single-leg takedown at the start of that fight was smooth as hell. Once he got down Wandy he pretty much controlled the fight from there, shame about the collarbone injury though.
