Actually the children had run away to get some things in the temple that could help to fight the demon and defend Gyomei from what I remember, while the little girl who survived when she said "He killed everyone, that man it's a monster " she was referring to the demon, not Gyomei, but the body of the demon had already turned to ash and the only things left were the bodies of the children, so without the demon's body presence they assumed that Gyomei had killed the children. The little girl survived and is very guilty for what happened and that Gyomei was arrested because of her.
I hope in the end when they all reunite in heaven they all clear up the misunderstanding it's maybe too late but closure is closure 😭

correction, it was actually mentioned in the manga, later when Gyomei was in the brink of his death he saw those dead children and they told him that they ran to grab weapons from outside to defend Gyomei because he was blind. The kids later apologized because of how Gyomei was wrongly accused

Event the 4-year-old girl didn't mean to accuse him. She kept saying the monster had killed them all but since the body of the demon disappeared they assumed she meant Gyomei.
The boy who dealed with the demon to not to eat him but others was actually zenitsu's future training brother who later turned into upper moon six since the position was empty and due to that zenitsu's master commited seppuku (cut off his own head) and that's why zenitsu became badass in the recent episodes
The manga does say so, in fact at the moment when the children gather to greet Gyomei when he is dying they tell him their true intentions, such as going for weapons to help defend themselves, so yes, the manga mentions it :^
And Gyomei dies knowing about the true intentions, so he dies being happy :3
