  • Handles are available aftermarket or in most any junkyard, as Toyota sold a lot of 4runners and there are still a bunch on the road. The slimline latches are from Speedway motors. Total cost per door about $40...

My passenger door was stripped of all it's components. I talked to a guy at MME and he said a lot of them have the entire door removed. I get to start working on the door this weekend.

Thank for the info. I have noticed that a lot of these trucks have one or both latches miss for some reason.

D Cummings the original latches on the A0 have a high failure rate, so I think when they mark a truck for DRMO/auction, they strip these unavailable parts off to keep the rest of the pool operational. Mine had all the latch and handle hardware stripped out of both doors. Either for spares or some trooper selling on ebay for beer money:)

That is a very cool and inexpensive mod. Good stuff.

I'm looking to replace the door handle son my truck. These handles look great on the doors. You don't show the process of installing the handles - I don't image they are a direct fit, what modifications did you need to do to the dogs to have the handles fit?

You do have to remove a little material. I detailed it a little more in-depth in the LMTV MTV military truck facebook group. There are pics there detailing where I removed material. It is not much, i used a Dremel tool and a fiber cutoff wheel, it took about 10-15 minutes. Here is a link to the discussion, but you may need to join the group to access it. facebook.com/groups/1607576859556624/?multi_permalinks=2242339782746992

Good evening, I have a question for how to you open the door from the inside?? I work for a county enity and we have several LMTV's and I would like to talk to more about this door latch and CTIS system..Thank You for your time

Sure, the inner opening uses the same splined shaft rotating mechanism as the original latches did. In the part of the video where I show the latch mechanism, you will see that the actuation lever comes out of the latch, then it has a part that extends upward. Each leg of the lever has a hole. The leg that sticks straight out is where you attach the rod from the outside handle. When you lift the handle it pulls down on the rod and the lever, releasing the latch. The inner handle rotates and, via a rod pulls on the upper leg of the lever to release the latch. Probably should Email me to talk about CTIS… r_marlett at msn dot com

Any 95-04 Toyota Tacoma or 4runner. I believe they also used the same handle on 4runners as early as 90(2nd and third generation 4runner). The fronts have lock assemblies, the rears do not. The fronts require a little more door mod to fit, the rear handles require only a slight alteration to the existing hole. Both require a backer plate to hold them in place/sandwich the door skin… it only tool me about 10-15 minutes with a Dremel tool and a fiber cutoff wheel to alter the hole. I went with rear handles as I am going with electric lock assemblies anyway… look to “Speedway motors” for that Trimark universal slimline latch assembly…

Do you need a striker to lock each door or is that for your electric lock ?

Check speedway motors out of Lincoln Ne. Slimline bearclaw latch P/N 910-52862-L and 910-52862-R and two slimline striker pins P/N 910-52863.(about $38 plus shipping:)) No separate striker for locking, this design uses a bar on a pivot screwed into the hole on top of the latch. The pivot bar slides into a notch on the top of the latch to block the claw release mechanism(the claw mechanism is like a sear on a firearm) from releasing the claw. Since I wasn’t sure exactly how I will actuate the lock, I opted to get the model without the locking mechanism and fab that part myself. If you look at the locking ones they have you will see how the mechanism works(real simple).

@@rronmar Thank you very much, I'm trying to find the model with lock part but no success so far: www.speedwaymotors.com/shop/speedway-door-latch-assemblies~8207-10191-4447-2-472-30248
only the same model that you have without the lock.

@@charlesrg i am sorry, you are absolutely correct. I thought they showed some there, but they don’t show any with the lock so I must have seen them somewhere else. “Google slimline bearclaw latch” and you will find lots of different images. Here is a link to ebay that shows the same basic design as I purchased, with the added angle bracket pivot, screwed into the hole in the top of the assembly, which holds the rotating lock bar. www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Small-Bear-Claw-Jaw-Latch-Car-Door-Lock-Locking-Street-Rod-Latches-/254174349317
