    Good luck, m’dear.
My mum was diagnosed with COPD 20 years ago. But it was rediagnosed 4 years ago as asthma. Anyway. She’s going to be 90 in August. And she has no heart issues and only needs a ventalin spray. She smoked until she was 50. So, sometimes these things can be better than we think.
Even many cancers are no longer the death sentence they used to be. Where there’s hope, there’s life and vice versa.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Paul. My dad has COPD stage 2, has had it for years. He is 84 now and living a perfectly normal life without any problems. He used to be a chain smoker and had to quit. There are also exercises for the lungs you can do to strengthen your lungs. You can find them on RUclips. I'm wishing you guys all the best!

Thankfully, as singers, we do breathing exercises every night in bed, always have for many years. I think that is why the COPD was hidden for so long.

Thank you for sharing, Paul. My MIL had severe COPD and it was awful seeing how much she suffered. She ended up being unable to have live saving surgery (not COPD related) because of the COPD. Right up until the day she died she refused point blank to give up smoking so it warms my heart that you are being so pro active and doing what needs to be done. Fighting in your corner with you❤

Hello from Pennsylvania USA 👋. I smoked tobacco for years as well Paul, from about the age of 13 until 45 I had attempted to quit smoking many many times and it wasn't until I had found the e-cigarette that I was finally able to quit tobacco. I did eventually quit the E-Cigarettes as well by decreasing the nicotine amounts every 2 or 3 weeks until I was down to zero and then I chose a vape juice that I wasn't particularly fond of undecided I had to vape zero mg and that flavor only if I really strongly felt the urge. That was a few years ago. Best of luck friend, so glad to see you seriously taking care of your health and it says much about your husband that he has so readily made these changes himself to make it easier for you. Much love 🤗 .

I've worked most on a lung disease ward, I meet patients like you, just starting out on the path to better health or people who have had the same diagnosis as you for decades and know more about it than me, naturally! Glad you've taken the first step, and quickly, it's a one day at a time thing, and important to remember you'll always be quitting, you'll never have quit. Been off work now a year with my own cancer journey (a blood one) but I'm due back to work in around a month now, but I look shocking without my hair!

My paternal grandfather passed when I was 6 of lung cancer, and my maternal grandmother passed 2 years ago of breathing trouble after smoking. I'm sure most of us have lifestyle factors we battle. We want our loved ones and the people we consider friends, even through a screen, to live long, happy lives. 💚

  • @sidcramp
    @sidcramp 3 месяца назад +4

It's good to see that you're making lifestyle changes to help going forward. It's certainly not the end of having fun in your life. I've had COPD since 1996, never smoked, but was trapped in a house fire, since then I am more susceptible to pneumonia and chest infections, although for the past year I've been on a preventive inhaler called Anoro Ellipta which is supposed to help suppress infections, and I think it's working. I still love dancing although it certainly wipes me out, and I can drunken sing sporadically. I'm still enjoying life, and I'm sure you'll not let it stop you enjoying whatever you do. Much love to Jason and yourself.❤️

Good for you quitting smoking Paul. It is singularly the best thing you can do for your lungs & your health in general. As someone who works on a respiratory ward. I have seen multiple patients in end stage COPD who are unable or unwilling to stop. In some cases they can't go onto long-term oxygen therapy because of their refusal to quit. Obviously oxygen and smoking can be a lethal combination.
My mother smoked from a very young age until she was diagnosed with COPD in her 50's. She & my dad then stopped immediately. She passed from a non-related issues when almost 80. So, stopping tobacco certainly helped.
I wish you all the very best. Keep following the qualified medical advice and get on living your life.
PS. The reasons I won't go into, I don't follow the news or current affairs. When you said the centre was opened by Mr Sunak, I thought you were talking about a consultant 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it took a couple of minutes for the penny to drop 😆

Thanks for sharing. My husband was just diagnosed with COPD. SPIRIVA costs $359. a month and he’s refusing to take (it’s not something we can afford). I immediately looked up the mullein and he’ll go for that. While he never smoked cigarettes, he did like to puff a fair amount of marijuana every day. He’s just had his second bout of pneumonia on oxygen 24/7. So we haven’t smoked anything since March when he first had pneumonia. Oh the joys of getting on in years. Love and well wishes to you. This has reached me at a time when I'm discovering health issues that have been rather frightening.
I've very recently had a wake up call and felt a need to re-evaluate my lifestyle. Before that I've very much pushed my luck health-wise, thinking I was invincible.
You're absolutely correct about reaching your 40s and 50s. These are the years that problems start to present themselves, and I've seen people I love becoming terribly ill.
All the best to you both on your healthy journey. It's a positive thing to talk to people about things like this because we all need to realise that we should seriously consider taking good care of ourselves, and that we would do well to amp up that self care as we advance in life.
Much love to you both ♥️♥️

I went just to try something new with normal breathing and came out noticing the difference. All natural and could help!

You have a wonderful support network--not just your lovely spouse, but so many other people, including us subs, pulling for you--that your odds of living a long, healthy life with this are great. Thanks, Paul. That was a really beneficial conversation to have, and a good reminder to all of us that we are important enough to look after, and to ask for help when we need it. I appreciate how hard it is to break a habit and adopt new lifestyle regime. You will know what conditions to avoid, what may trigger it. Best to have your toolkit ready to adapt. We want you well enough to enjoy the things you love. Maybe The Vegan Queens could write a musical you could take part in, or vice versa, as you are so creative. I bet you're regularly giving it laldy with some songs every day. I can hear you sing your favourites, eg., Abba's "I wonder"...I'm sure we could suggest a few. Music is so important. Dear Paul, I’m so sorry for copd diagnoses, sending hugs your way. I quit smoking about 17 yrs ago, and frankly, I don’t miss it 99% of the time and when I do, it’s a fleeting thought. I gave up Sigs with the Nicotine Patches but in an unusual way. Patches are recommended for six weeks but I used them for over 6-8 months, weaning myself slowly, cutting them in half and 1/4 as need, and one day I just stopped using them! I do take organic oregano oil pills as they help with lung congestion as a result of allergies, etc. It.may not work for everyone but seem to help me, do a little research and check with doc before considering them. Take care of you-

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. But you've made some great changes to protect your health. And your doctor encourages singing!! (Thanks for making this vlog. Because of time differences, I am usually sleeping during your lives.)

It is so very difficult to quit smoking age 10 is very very young. I started smoking age 13 i was diagnosed with asthma in my 40's I'm now 55 same age as you I was smoking 17-20 a day since I lost my partner suddenly in April I have cut right down im currently having 6 tabs a day John was a very heavy smoker 20+ per day. I want to stop completely I have tried various vapes but they make me cough and catch the back of my throat so hopefully I will be able to stop in the near future im hoping by the end of the year. You are doing amazing its such a hard addiction to break respect to you for your quitting journey and you have lots of support from Jason too❤🏳️‍🌈

That was interesting timing, I just bought some Mullein tea because I've heard it's good for respiratory problems. Well done for switching to vaping though 🙌

EDIT: I’m very tired as I type this, sorry if it doesn’t read well, I hope you catch the gist of it.
You are such a wonderful couple, your husband Jason is going through these lifestyle changes with you, and that’s the sign of a good person through and through, the sign of a wonderful couple of soulmates. I’m 35 and have been smoking roll ups since I was 13, I do vape but I also do have cigarettes too, vaping is handy for nighttime or getting nicotine in places I’d rather not/cannot smoke etc.
I feel inspired by you both to knock the roll ups on the head. Like yourself, I’d have to vape instead as a stopgap. Who knows for how long, but the difference you have already felt from switching to vaping speaks for itself. As a nurse, I know quite a bit about COPD and yes, while it is very serious and must have been a shock after your relief of no cancer, but you are right in saying that there are ways to live a fulfilling and long life. It seems you are more than ready and willing to make those changes, you have already started and already completed some of the most important changes which is really truly fantastic.
As a nurse, I don’t practice what I preach. We tell people don’t do this, do more of that…. Then we go home and have one to many glasses of wine or cider, and enjoy a takeaway and a cigarette. We are all equal, we all have good points and weaknesses. Your honesty in this video will undoubtedly encourage others to live a healthier lifestyle regarding cigarettes, and meanwhile you have my upmost respect for making such a deeply personal video.
With love to you and Jason, from me and my hubby and the kids (your online friends, a family of happy vegans from the south west of England). Keep on keeping on, we are right behind you and behind Jason too as he guides you, joins you, and makes changes for himself to better the process overall for you both. If that’s not true love for you, I don’t know what is 😊).

I have honestly noticed over the last few weeks, on your dinner vlogs, that your voice has sounded clearer, and smoother.
Good on you Paul for your lifestyle change. In our family too, my father in law had a chest infection which landed him in hospital. Was told copd was a factor.
He vowed to give up smoking and has for the last 2 months.. after smoking for 60 odd years, he’s 83 now!

My mum had COPD .She gave up smoking in her fifties, but the damage was only realised in her late seventies. My step father has it now and lives independently whilst hooked up to an oxygen concentrator twenty four seven .He does need support with shopping , housework and cooking but he can microwave the home cooked food I put in the freezer and is self caring .He has adapted to his situation and generally has a good quality of life.Wish we had known about Mullein sooner but then older people prefer the conventional route don't they?

I had a lobectomy in February this year due to lung cancer (Stage 1) and having been a smoker for 54 years, it was not easy to give up smoking after the biopsy gave me a pneumothorax in December 23. I also was told that I have mild COPD.
We’re all individuals, so we each need to find what works. For me it is snus (as snus is illegal here, it is sold as “chew bags” legally). I dislike the nicotine pouches, they taste awful. I also have a nicotine free vape but I rarely use it and when I do, I don’t inhale.
Wishing you all the best and many symptom free years.

Thank you so much! The first few weeks after the diagnosis were awful and the 6 week wait for the lobectomy wore me down.
3 weeks after I was back out wheezing through my first enjoyable 3k walk and 18k bike ride. (Exercise helps me to cope with having to give up smoking)
I hope your post diagnosis experience is similar and you and your lovely hubby enjoy life and the activities you both like!

I was diagnosed 8 years ago Paul. I am now 68. Gave up the cigs straight away. Like you I was relieved after all the tests that it was not cancer. I also vaped and better than cigs for you. I hope that you are getting all the medication available for you. Dont get me wrong still get chest infections but feel my condition is more under control now. I always keep on the go as much as possible and feel it helps too. You take care ❤

My heartfelt wishes for strength and comfort on your health journey, Paul, and to everyone in your life supporting you! 💚 My doctor recently felt concerned about the odd shape of my stomach; they did scans and found a big but likely benign uterine fibroid. From my research, at 23cm it could weigh 9 pounds😵! I'm obese which hid the condition, and is a major risk factor. I was referred to Gynecology but told to touch base after 2 weeks...come find out they never received my referral, but now I have an appointment....for October! So much for the greatest health care system in the world haha. USA USA! But seriously, guys, keeping you in my thoughts. Lifestyle changes are such a struggle. 💚💚💚💚
