Hi Miranda, It will fit and you can do this but you'll end up with a rainbow tie-die style of cake, rather than a rainbow layer cake. They're still both rainbow, but just different in the way they turn out :)

Haha - this made me giggle :) And YES - rainbow layer cake harder than doing one colour. Well, not harder, it just takes a lot more time. You have to bake the colours separately which can take a couple of hours all up - whereas with a normal colour cake you can just bake it all together which takes about 45 minutes. So its a bit longer but the finished look is so worth it! (IMO) xx Elise

Hi Rim Chami! Good Question :) If you use really good quality couverture chocolate then yes, you'll need to temper it but if you use compound or cooking chocolate then it doesn't need to be tempered. Tempered couverture gives a nice shine, but compound is easier to work with :) xx Elise
You honestly don't need a giant cupcake mold. It'll be much easier if you bake them in 8 inch cake rounds and carve them down. That's what you're doing anyways, you don't use the shape of the mold.

I was just wandering, with the top half of the cupcake to cook the Orange layer would it be possible to put rice in the bottom of it 'where the red cupcake layer would go. Then put down baking paper and add the Orange cake mix on top of it? Or does that sound dumb? lol.
instead of putting frosting to fill up the part where the cake doesn't meet the chocolate case can you use the remaining cake instead to fill in those gaps?

My wife, Anna, and some of our grandchildren have made a 4 layer cake, each child coloring a layer, for their Mother's birthday the last two years, a little eaiser since you don't need a mold, just 4 cake pans.
Hi! I'm guess you covered this top of this cake with white fondant. How did you cut it to the right size as this was one of the last steps when finishing the cake? Also does the icing stick fondant easy or is something like jam often needed? Thanks :)
This is the only way to get clear cut layers throughout the cake, if all cooked together there would not be the obvious layers you see here. :-) Elise x

I couldn't be bothered and did that and all the colours blended together and it didn't look very good at all! It still tasted fine though :)
