it is kinda weird how the west always treats the mouse as the hero and the cat as the villian, considering mice are vermin carriers and very destructive, and cats do us a great service by keeping them in check. i never really understood that trope.
The mouse was such a dick, glad he got what he deserved, even though I wish there was more to his punishment. Nice to see some old Japanese animation. Disney, MGM, and Warner Brothers indeed weren't the only ones making cartoons during the Golden Age of Animation, but we don't see old international cartoons like we do with them. It's a little sad, and I do hope Japanese students going into animation are being shown their classics alongside American classics (it's possible they touch on Disney in animation history, it's kinda inevitable given the milestones the company has set).
Kumori Garasu I hope so too. as this is the beginning of the Anime/Animation in Japan. It all begins with these old cartoons. Otherwise we get false narratives. I am happy to finally watch these shows after reading about them in the Anime Encyclopedia. (Back when it was thought Anime started in 1917, It may have been as early as 1905 in Japan).
it's been just 84 years. I mean it is not much time if you think about it and look what's animation like today. How animation will look like in 2099 O .O ...
@@Yonkage Someone's forgetting all of the innovations in flash animation. Also to be honest, I can't really glorify the films from the 90s as I used to due to kind of realizing that other than Disney, other studios didn't meet up to the standards set by them. Except dreamworks by basically saying "fuck you" to Disney, and making The Prince of Egypt which my god, was beautiful.
Given how technology is advancing these days, I would say that some aspects of animation can be made up to 100 per cent realistic by the end of the century.
We don't get to see her put her wings back on, but it's very nice that the cat was able to help her. Also I hope those birds pecked the mouse's eyes out.
I think that this film is the "Chuji no Hagoromo" (1941 Tsuchida-Shokai), made by Teizo Yamaguchi. I refered to "Nippon Animation Eiga-shi(the History of Japanese Animation Films)"(1977)
There was a scene that was pretty much similar to that one: The _Silly Symphonies_ episode Noah's Ark featured the sun smiling in the blue sky but then growing sad when clouds moved in. At the end, the clouds cleared, and the sun soon smiled again.
Cíntia Andrade Could have been. There is a possibility that Color Anime/Animation from Japan was allot older than we presume. The First Color Anime from Japan was 1948’s My Baseball. However, there is also 1929’s Golden Flower which is said to be the first Anime in color (though legend has it that it may have been given to the Emperor as a gift as the one released in public was black and white). So this being in color could very well be the case & the black and white version is what has been recovered. Also we discovered Animation from Japan from 1905 so I guess anything is possible when we find it. All of which would predate 1958’s Legend of the White Serpent
The booted cat may represent the Russians who fought Japan in a war. The dragonfly might represent the land that the Russian tried to conquest and the cat might be the Japanese defeating the Russians terrorizing the local population.
The good cat proudly opens the chest with the key and watches happy the butterfly get his wings back who is very happy and immediately go flying in the air with joy. The butterfly thanks the cat.
I was surprised again that the movement of the characters was smooth and the quality of the animation at that time was high.
Why were you surprised? Not trying to be rude or dramatic, that just seems like a weird statement.

Nice Show, Kinda interesting to see a Cat & Mouse where the Cat is the good guy and wins against the mouse.

In America, cat is bad guy. in Soviet Japan, good guy is cat!
Love how butterfly looks like that one dragonfly pokemon

Diminishing returns. Animation peaked in the 80's and 90's, and now it's all shitty, shitty CGI everywhere.

I notice the music from scenes when the cat is chasing the mouse is from "The Sorcerers Apprentice" by Dukas. Premonition of Mickey in "Fantasia"!

@@NataliaJuliaNowak no way, the cat was benevolent and his heart was in the right place immediately from the start.
Amazing for something that was made in 1931.
Watch the oldest animation ever, Mickey mouse (Steamboat willie) from 1928
