Thank you! 😊 I do see the carnatic music style going well together with the style of Tool songs. Maybe one day I maybe able to try a few experiments myself and play it out as some melodies over Tool songs. Something on my mind for this year to do. 😁
Thank you! I am very happy that you feel that because that is exactly what I feel too when I play these songs. Each line is repeating differently each time and it builts up in a beautiful way and when listening to it we can definitely hear the story it is telling!
This is just so amazing and melodious. MAA AMBIKE, PROTECT THIS CHILD WITH YOUR GRACE AND MAKE SURE THIS KUTTI REACHES THE HEIGHTS OF HER DREAMS. Her performance is just out of the world and took me to the abode of MAA JAGADAMBIKE. Thanks-a-million chinna kutti for making my day. I think you're a mixture of MAA SARASWATHI, SHAARADA AND AMBIKA. Keep up the good work and play few carnatic keerthana's on and off apart from the mind blowing rock music.
Yes Maya u played wonderfully well. I know the Degree of difficulty....in Executing this song in Ragam " Vijayanaagari". May God bless u all the time. 🎉
This is pure magic, wow, Maya you are so talented! Your parents and guru must be very proud, but full credit goes to you and your hard work and efforts in mastering these pieces. I cannot wait to see your next bit of work. May you have all the blessings of Saraswati; the gandharvas are surely playing and dancing along with you ❤️🙏🏻
😊 Thank you so much!! ♥️ The carnatic songs are too beautiful and I look forward to practicing them. It's the best feeling when I finally play it without mistakes. That's when I can feel me travelling with the music as if I'm watching myself playing the guitar. It's a unique feeling. Due to the difficulty levels it takes me several weeks or even months to learn and master 1 carnatic song. I have more amazing songs and even more complex ones coming up soon which I'm working on. I'm very happy that you enjoy my progress. Thank you for your support! 😁
young lady you have been gifted, and on top of that you work hard and you have a good understanding of your art, keep it up, my love and blessings are upon you, and I hope some of that talent rubs off upon my two beloved grandchildren.
If this style of music is to appease the gods i can understand its message to do that. But heavy metal is profound. It goes beyond. I have to b honest she really excelled there.
Lovely presentation kiddo! I've been a fan of your teacher Guitar Prasanna sir for a while now and I've just recently started following your guitar renditions as well. Really love the Carnatic music that flows comes out of your Guitar! May god bless with you and may you keep blessing our days with the divine music. Keep learning and keep rocking!
A very good performance! If I'm correct, I believe a lot of Indian music uses microtonal scales, which differ a little from the more Bach based western scales. These can be played on a fretless instrument like a violin, but they use notes between the notes that a traditional guitar would have. Still, an appropriate version can be played to sound similar to the microtonal version. It may be worth it some day to look into a microtonal guitar or fretboard. They have the same frets as a guitar, but with frets between them for notes that would otherwise be inaccessible. They look a bit intimidating to me, but I sometimes feel I barely even know what I'm doing on guitar!
Each time I read your awesome comments I am always learning something new!!! 😀 Your observation on Indian classical music is right. What I noticed is, the travelling between the notes is the key that gives that special sound. You are very right about microtonal being used, also a lot of semitones are used too even though they might not be in the scale. But it's played in such a way that we don't hear those wrong notes and these notes are used to beautify the path to the note it's supposed to go to. They are called Gamakas. These are used in western songs as well I noticed but not as much. I have noticed even Adam Jones playing some of these in his melodies sometimes. So yeah, playing this in guitar is a very different technique and we have to use a lot of crazy slides to create that unique sound. This is one of the main reason why I got so impressed that I wanted to learn to play these carnatic songs too! 😊
@@MayaNeelakantan I'm learning new things from you comments, too! I know Danny Carey specifically traveled to India to learn how to play tabla drums properly. He uses an electric drum pad on stage for this, but probably used a traditional drum on 10,000 Days. I've had an interest in Indian, Turkish, and Armenian music for a while due to the sound that comes from "non Western" scales. I almost bought an electric sitar once, though I figured that would both take a lot to learn properly, and would probably be a bit of work restringing! I think EHX makes a pedal called the Ravish Sitar which does a decent job making a guitar sound like one, though I admit some of the appeal is the instrument itself. I think by this point, I've accepted I'm a guitarist at heart, though I will admit I love banjo and cello too. The Japanese Shamisen is one I'm most curious in now, though I hear the "pick" used for it is a bit pricey. I'd like to do some justice to the traditional nature of instruments like that, but overall, I admit I'm just in it because they sound amazing! ruclips.net/video/89U8eFyWIX0/видео.html Shamisen demo and history ruclips.net/video/Sp4JgVzy5aM/видео.html Ravish Sitar pedal
@@CosmicWaltz7 awesome. I will check out the videos on Shamisen and Ravish pedal. For carnatic music we use a different instrument called Veena. It looks similar to sitar but it's held differently and sounds very different. I try to play that too sometimes when I go to my grandma's house. It's really fun. Just like sitar, stringing and tuning them are hard. But its worth it and the vibration from the sound is so natural sounding. I heard about Danny Carey actually learning Tabla from an Indian instructor called Mr Aloke Dutta. They both did a duet in the Salival version Pushit song and that was awesome to watch. 😁 It's really amazing how he uses so many different sounds so beautifully in their song arrangements. A legend indeed.
Someone at my home had learned this song. Not commonly heard! Sounded like raga "Sivaranjani" but was sure it is not. Turns out "Vijayanagari" with a "Ma" added. Didn't remember the raga.
Amazing. Really this song gives me more and more connectivity with the Divinity while I close my eyes and listen . Amazing Maya and I am very much grateful to you for presenting such a traditional South Indian Carnatic song. Thanks to Mr. Prasanna for his teaching and give more and more songs like this through his guidance. Especially in this Guitar sound is very effective and perfect. Convey my Thanks to Mr. Adam Jones for this marvelous gift to you. Your dressing is traditional especially for this song.
Thank you so much Paati!!! This is a really moving song and I also get a different feeling when playing it. And then the charanam gets even more melodious! Yes, I tried to dress up as grand as I can with amma's wedding saree and everything for this carnatic song.
Happy New Year Maya. You are amazing and I'm excited to hear what you play in 2023. You should listen to Derek Trucks. On some of his albums he plays Indian music but he uses a slide. I think you would like it.
Thank you so much!! I am also excited for 2023 too because I have many ideas that I want to try in music! I will take a listen to Derek Trucks. I have heard of him for slides. I will listen to his songs now. Thank you for recommending. And Happy new year to you too!
@Maya Neelakantan the song is called Maki Madni. Derek has a famous, although unknown to me, musician from India sing and play on the song. It is amazing and I think you will like it. Slide guitar can more closely mimic what you were playing than using your fingers. Let me know what you think.
I love the sound of sitar, whatever instrumnet its played on, it would be so nice to hear it in any composition. it will make the whole world happy with the indian flavour.
