Because of this, the United States is becoming the laughing stock of the entire world with how stupid, ignorant, immoral, fat, entitled, & sinful this country has become. The Russian people overall have dignity, class, intelligence, and self-respect, and Republicans see that and respect that they have not lost their minds like people have here where we do everything backwards.

      Not true. Border police officer who works at an airport here. An adult travelling with kids internationally merely requires a statement from the parents confirming that they're ok with that. Not notarized, just a signature is fine. Also, if one parent has sole custody (or if there's only one parent anyways), we have no way of checking that (a court order could be outdated and single parents have no document confirming that in the first place). Add to that the fact that the rules for travelling minors are different in every country. We have to trust our instincts and plausibility.

    Here's an excellent example: in Cdn. and USA divorce cases virtually all the time (and in our legal and para=legal venues such as labour law) all kinds of "accusations" are used as a power move, with both sides lawyers telling their clients (and Union bus. agents) that this is never used "officially" in court. the problem is if some other level of law (foreign, Border Securiy) get a hold of it and treat it as fact. You have zero control over that. This guy looks rough; he's NOT doing well, and it's only been two years. Ouch.

    I only ask if America will also release foreign prisoners "wrongfully or unjustly" convicted, to their grieving families in their countries? Why should America always have grandiose over this? Americans dont commit crimes?

    • @Stalker9928
      @Stalker9928 4 месяца назад

      Any rational American would agree to release people who were wrongfully convicted, our justice system is multitudes more fair than Russia's. We rely on actual evidence, not international statements. Russia is only doing this because it's their citizen vs. ours. Any other democratic country would throw the case out.
      "Why should America always have grandiose over this?" Because the crime took place in our land? And Russia is known to be unjust?? If a Russian committed a crime in the United States, the American legal system would handle the case based on the principles of justice and fairness that are foundational to our judicial process. It's essential to understand that the U.S. legal system, while not perfect, operates under a framework that prioritizes due process, the right to a fair trial, and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. These principles are enshrined in the Constitution and are a cornerstone of the American judicial process.
      Moreover, the United States has mechanisms in place to address wrongful convictions. These include appeals processes, the possibility of a retrial, and in some cases, the intervention of organizations dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals. The Innocence Project is a notable example, having played a role in the exoneration of hundreds of individuals through DNA testing and other means.
      Comparing the legal systems of the United States and Russia requires acknowledging the differences in judicial independence, transparency, and adherence to international human rights standards. According to various international watchdogs and human rights organizations, the Russian judicial system has been criticized for a lack of independence from the government, politically motivated trials, and restrictions on the rights of the accused. These issues are less prevalent in the United States, where the judiciary operates independently of the executive and legislative branches, and where there is a stronger tradition of legal transparency and accountability.
      In response to the notion of "America always having grandiose over this," it's important to recognize that the commitment to justice and the rule of law is not an assertion of superiority but a fundamental principle of democratic governance. When a crime is committed within a country's jurisdiction, it is the responsibility of that country's legal system to address the crime, ensuring that justice is served while respecting the rights of the accused. This is not about grandiosity but about fulfilling a basic responsibility to uphold law and order within one's borders.
      Finally, the assertion that "Americans don't commit crimes" is a misrepresentation. Americans, like individuals in any country, are capable of committing crimes, and when they do, they are subject to the law. The key difference lies in how the legal system approaches and handles these cases, with a focus on fairness, evidence, and the legal rights of the accused. The suggestion that any democratic country would "throw the case out" oversimplifies the complexities of international law and ignores the fact that legal systems worldwide strive to balance the pursuit of justice with the protection of individual rights, albeit with varying degrees of success and adherence to democratic principles.

      You are wrong. I grew up with this family. I stayed with David and his son on a trip to Houston just after the divorce. Story doesn't mention that her Russian mother, David's mother in law, lived with them in Texas and wouldn't speak English when talking to Sveltana even after David begged them.. Mommy wanted back and David was an obstacle. I really don't think the initial accusations by her in Texas were meant to jail him for 21 years. She rung the bell and it can't be unwrung and it snowballed to this point. Note- David had a swat team kick in his door, take his laptop and computer and kept it as evidence for a year or more before the trial. Nothing found on it. Then they went to a jury trial. Aquitted. David only had supervised visits up until acquitted and the judge restored the original custody agreement. Just when he was about to get to honestly speak to his kids (i.e. the truth) after the trial, she and Russian Mom bolted to Russia and abandoned her house. David worked hard on getting her parental rights removed. If she ever comes back to the United states, there is a warrant for her arrest (I have a copy of that if you don't believe it) and the boys are flagged as Code Yellow by Interpol as kidnapped. If they ever get back to the United States (David and Christian), she won't have access, even though David has reached out to her. After all this, he still thinks the boys should have the relationship between them stable. If you don't get that, here is what you need to know. IT"S BEST FOR THE KIDS. They are most likey screwed up by this. Gosh this whole thing passed the point of being ridiculous 2 years ago. And by the way, he never had contact with them on Russian soil.

I'm afraid that they'll go and murder those people just because she said that. You can't mess around with Russia. Why he went over there and got a Russian attorney is beyond me. You can't just go over there to Russia. You can't not when stuff like this is happening. Really not anytime but especially at that point. I know it's expensive but there's attorneys I'm sure like in New York or somewhere like that that can deal or defend transatlantically,. I no I probably just made up a word there but you get the point.
    I'm just afraid for him. I don't think they're going to let him go. They don't care about us. Did you see that interview with Putin? Did you watch him? Just look at him through the whole interview? I mean calm cool collected pasty focused grinning the whole time. I mean he is like an assassin in weight. I could just feel the evil oozing off of him.
    Anyway, I don't know. I know he did the right thing by himself to go and get his kids. I totally get that but you just can't go. It's just like when you take a flight somewhere, what do they tell you. If those masks drop, you've got to put one on yourself first because you can't help anyone if you yourself are in need of help.

    I understand he wanted to see his children but travel to Russia was simply not an intelligent decision for anyone that isn't an ally of the Russian state.
    Unfortunately, marriages where the spouses are from different countries should one of them choose to return to their home country with their children that country's government gives that parent full custodial rights. Unless the children can be gotten back to the 'abandoned' spouse's country, that parent is out of luck. The US Court would push for these children not to be removed from the US and would apply US laws to enforce that if they were still here. Regrettably, the mom was able to get the children back to Russia and, honestly, he had no hope of getting those kids back or even seeing them again unless the mom was willing to allow that. Sad, but it is the reality of marriage to people holding citizenship of countries other than one's own. Him being convicted of an incident of child abuse that had not occurred in Russia but it is obvious that Russia does not view this as being an incident that would fall under a time or residence limitation. Unfortunate, but given the current situation in Russia I do not find it surprising. They could have expelled him from the country but a trial of this man has far better press value for Russia. It protects the mom and her kids and effectively makes him a non issue for them and their government. Russia just isn't playing nice with anyone holding citizenship of western countries right now. Doesn't look like changing anytime soon. So very, very sad for all involved. I hope he can somehow be brought back to the US.
