Journalists are in a tough space now. I don't know if they're being diplomatic in their verdicts to keep the manufacturers happy or if the bikes are really at par with each other. Better format of ending would be " get the R15 if build quality and fuel economy is paramount to you, the RC 200 if you want a more aggressive and demanding motorcycle and you're willing to pay for the higher fuel bills and service costs." Personally for a beginner I'll suggest the R15 since the engine behaviour is more safer and less rapid than the KTM. At the same time it also has a brilliant chassis and committed ergonomics that help teach a serious learner, the art of motorcycling. Considering the traffic on our roads and the fact that many youngsters kind of suck at saving up money for things they really need, the R15 would be my pick. KTM demands more knowledge, sensitivity and attention from its owners. It's for the more committed young learner who knows exactly what he wants and is prepared to make the effort for it.

R15 is truely light on the pocket to maintain and run but its not as practical as the RC now. Its the RC that has the better seats, comfort for both rider and pillion, a lively motor, better mirrors, better brakes, and radial tyres for both front and back wheels. And both bikes can give hilariously low fuel efficiency numbers if you were to drive it like how its supposed to be driven but if driven with right throttle input, the yamaha edges out the RC naturally due to it being lower cc and that vva coming in handy at high revs. The avg difference is around 5-10 kmpl at best.

It’s just the difference being different kind of riders. And that’s the incredible part of having experienced riders like PD to work with. We had different preferences. And we had to agree to disagree.

Buddy. Having ridden both R15 and new RC200, I can say easily that RC200, is less aggressive of the two, on your wrists. Also, the quality and fitment of the both the bikes felt more or less same. Personally, here what I've seen over the years-
Yamaha has dropped a bit in the quality and it shows after a year or two, it it's in the hands of a new, young squid.
KTM on the other hand didn't have good quality as their pro to begin with, but they have gradually improved on it bit by bit. I especially love the cluster of KTM more than R15 or Gixxer. The fact that they don't have dual channel ABS in KTM still irks me
As for the dynamics, R15 has a more committed, and it shows, but while R15 is more flickable of the two, the RC200 has a better stability or the two.
As for the bills, it's true that RC have a higher ASS bills of the two.

@@subodhranjan2944 Great insights. Yeah even I feel that KTM has been slowly upping their game in terms of build quality. It's just a matter of people getting over the notion that Indian brands (since KTM here is made by Bajaj) sidelines quality control and at the same time it's also about our brands proving such notions wrong.

Lol RC looks terrible with that visor and feels like I'm riding a bajaj bike as there are a lot of vibrations. Performance wise, you can't say RC gives a big bike feel. These under 250 cc bikes are small bikes. Be it rc, duke or r15. You need to go out on a r3 or ninja 300 at least to have a big bike feel as per Indian roads..

@@kakashihatake1929 Did a test drive of the rc200 2 days ago. It had some vibs not gonna lie, but its the same as the r15, being a high compression single cylinder its bound to have vibrations. As for looks and driving feel, i would definitely go for the RC if i could sell my R15(which i had bought not long ago) cause the bikes feels better to drive and sit on. The power is there throughout the rev band so its not sleepy at any point of accelerating unlike the r15. After getting off and sitting on my r15, it definitely felt smaller compared to the RC. RC200 might not have the power of a liter class or even the 390 but its doesnt lack any bit of the fun factor we enthusiasts want.

Looks wise r15 edges out the rc but everything else the rc takes the cake. Drove the rc200 today and the bike just felt lively throughout rev band unlike the r15. The seats felt better to sit on, the side mirrors were better, and overtakes were just easy. I own a r15 v3 btw

Yes mate gotta say the same. Gonna complete a year next month with my own V3 and yes I know why you said about the lively part. V3 takes a real long time to hit that sweet sport which is closer to the rev band plus the taller gearing takes it away. It also lacks the initial punch which can only be felt at the high rev band. But still love my V3 tho. It's purely made for track and highway purpose.

    R15 is Android
    RC is Apple,
Everyone may use Android for more features and cheap, but deep inside they ❤️ RC for looks and brand quality, everyone can not afford them...
You may not differentiate looks between r15v3 and r15m until u go to front view and observe carefully, but everyone will turn head when new RC passes, they may troll but everyone slowly loves it..

When I did my saddlesore, R15 showed it's mettle. But any bike can handle 1800 kms in 24 hours! But, when we did the Golden Quadrilateral in the chilly winters within 146 hours covering close to 6000 kms, R15 showed masterclass! Leh, Ladakh, Khardungla and several passes never gave any sort of back pain. Now a days, I have stopped carrying even the puncture kit in my long rides... And Kudos to the fuel efficiency

5 years back, i started my sportsbike journey on the rc200 when sarge convinced the prick from kothrud that the baby KTM was not supposed to be anything more than a tool to learn to ride fast through the corners. It was nosy with an aggressive front end. The dash was good enough just to know the speed and a vague idea of what rpm you were at. The gearbox was slick but punishing if you were in the wrong gear. Made you listen to the engine, observe the radius of the corner and the banking. And most of all, it looked like a futuristic sportsbike. I have tricked so many people by saying there is no rear seat. That pillion seat was a work of art.
And now it's all gone. Feels like put together from the leftover parts bin. The front end looks horrendous. The sharp tail end is gone. The grabrail (seriously? Grabrail on a sportsbike?) makes it even more ugly. *sigh* it might perform better specs wise, but the emotions and character of the rc is gone. It's now a sports tourer. More sales for KTM, very likely. That's the way the world goes, i guess.

True, the old RC had the hardcore track machine appeal going for it. But it was not practical for the streets and it had heating issues. Most people who love their bikes will overlook these factors but the majority of people who buy these bikes will only own 1 bike in their garage, so making it somewhat practical was the right choice by KTM. What it lacks in looks, the new RC doesnt lack the old RC's characteristics. Its still fun to drive.

    • @MedicOnAMotorcycle
      @MedicOnAMotorcycle 3 года назад +1

@Akash Paul The whole point of the rc was to not be practical. To be good at just one thing. Attack corners hard and look cool while at it.

300CC bikes doesn't sell well in India, because they consume fuel like anything.
That's the reason, yamaha is reluctant to release it's highier CC segment bikes in India.
So, they would sell a few bikes compared to something like a R15, but it's not looking great for Yamaha at the moment, you could read their official segment.
R25 is available in Indonesia, but they don't bring that here in India, that's why they are putting more effort and attention to their R15.

The R15 would easily give 45 kmpl even in city. It has been consistent from the V1 to V4.
On the other hand KTM sucks in fuel like anything.
Yamaha service and parts availability is excellent pan India, where as KTM service sucks in most parts of India.
Yamaha parts are cheap, KTM parts are hard to get even for KTM service centeres in India, KTM parts take significant effort to procure + you do not get them in open market.
Don't go for performance, unless you're racing on a track, look for a good package.
In that case R15 is an excellent choice for your everyday use.
If you are into cars, then you might remember Koenigsegg made a car called "Koenigsegg One"
Becaues it's top speed is in 1:1 ratio with it's weight.
Although RC 200 is a 200 CC motorcycle, it'll never reach 200 kmph, on the other hand R15 easily reaches 150 kmph, that's a 1:1 ratio and solid Yamaha engineering.
    TIP:
R15 upgrades are backward compatible, most of the time.
e.g. slipper clutch, quick shifter and some other things can be just swapped into R15 V2 and added from their younger generations.

Is that hard to understand? Or are you looking at that by some fanboy perspective

Why are we (as a biking nation) obsessed with small single cylinder underpowered motorcycles? Someone needs to change the game and produce some affordable performance bikes. Imagine an Inline 4 , 200 CC, producing 50-60 Bhp and about 40 Nm of torque - available for 4 Lakhs (maybe 4.5, not more). That's what we want.

Here are the reasons people here are obsessed with small single cylinder underpowered motorcycles
•people here are obsessed with mileage
      •people are poor
•the government adds high taxes to import bikes which are usually the ones which have more power
•these bikes are comparatively cheap performance
•even if people can afford the more powerful and better bikes, they would prefer to get a car as it's more practical and an expensive bike is an attention seeker and as you would know, people here in india are jealous and they just keep a bad eye to the owner
And anyways, india is not a biking nation by choice, they are forced to use a bike. Most "bikers" I india aren't bikers, they use their bikes as a car because they can't afford a car

But they did. CBR250R was a masterstroke which failed miserably. If it released today it would see more sales. Unfortunately Honda and the world has moved on inferior motorcycles, thanks to cost conscious market.
