I didn't know that the first GoPro camera came out that long ago. Closest thing I had to that was a Flip Video camera (remember those?), the 2nd-to-last version they made before Cisco discontinued them. It held 2 hours of 720p video.
You're principle of not buying products from a company after they give poor customer service is exactly the same as my own. They get one chance, and one chance only. Too many of them these days are quick to forget that we have other choices.
I had the first version Gopro and one thing I did like about was I could use it as a dashcam an mount with the suction mount on the windscreen and it would NOT overheat even in summer and shutdown unlike the rest of the gopro models now do.
I still repair film cameras from the 70s on through the 90s. There are still lots of users of old tech. GoPro does not offer repair services, it's exchange only, like me trying to get my Rexing dash cam.
All from gopro. Even if they did charge tax, it would be 5% GST on the 50.00 so 2.50 if it was declared. Most of these are declared at less than 20.00 as it is considered a repair, so no tax at all. Companies like Fed Ex charge a 37.50 fee to do the paperwork. That is 25 to process the paperwork, that 25.00 is subject to tax at 2.50 and then they add an additional 10.00 because they are loaning you the 2.50 they paid in tax on the paperwork that was not necessary because there was no tax owing in the first place. I get stuff shipped to me all the time from the US, to my post office and never pay a cent in tax because it is broken equipment coming in for service. But if the idiot sending it to me sends by fed ex, and say puts a 200 value on a broken tape recorder that 200 is converted to 260 cdn, and 12% tax is accessed (31.20) and the 37.50 broker fee is added and all of a sudden the person sending their unit is going to be paying an additional 68.70 on top of t he repair if they ever want to see their prized device again. Just ask the guy that sent me a broken walkman and put a declared value of 1000 on it. Cost him 193.50 in taxes. (and yes he paid because I refused delivery till it was paid)
Sir please upload a video about hi-fi mini component system repairing like Samsung, Sony, aiwa, etc. I have a Samsung mini hi-fi component system that problem is no sound on rear and center Chanel. Model is max kj 740.
I have a hero 7 white and it does freeze a lot, the GoPro app takes up WAY too much space on my phone and half the time it doesn't connect to my phone. Only paid $200 for it. I can't believe that these are used to make TV shows when they operate this way unless I have an inferior one than the ones they use on the shows.
There are ways to un-brick a gopro, I did mine with no help from gopro. Can't remember the link but i'm sure it can still be found. It took about 1hr to get it back to working again. Gopro were no help at all, just the offer to buy a new one at a reduced price. Which was more expensive than the going price on the net!. it was just a reinstall of the os, then installing the updates. mine bricked itself with a drained battery!
@@12voltvids I pissed about for about 2 months with GoPro support, doing this ,trying that. the engineers did not have a clue. had a look on the PC but can't find the link, but found this "gopro-usb-tools-master" comment. there was help out there and it got my bricked Hero 4 back and it's still going fine. Still was great to see inside one without taking mine apart. thanks.
Hey David! Ive been watching your videos trying to fix my tv and they are great! I have a broksonic 13” vcr tv combo that seems to not want to show picture but the sound works just fine. Its just white and black fuzz. Ive cleaned video heads and everything but still no picture just fuzz. Are the heads bad? Any ideas on how to fix? Id be willing to send in for an episode!
I have been pretty happy with my Akaso Brave 7 I did some shooting with it mounted on my harley, which is basically a paint shaker, and the result was a butter smooth picture. Has a front facing dual screen too which is nice for framing when doing selfie work.
@Taco I have hot had an issue, and I have the Hero 9. I think a lot has to do with user error, the fact that most mirrorless and DSLR cameras do the same thing says you need to ensure you have air movement to keep them from overheating or don't run them a long time. I usually don't run my GoPro more than 15 minutes at a time or run them in a room that has little air circulation. That said, they do get warm, but I have not had them overheat, and even then, maybe once. Yes, they are not perfect, but the sad truth is, no camera is.
Everybody says how good the go pro is but in reality most people I've seen have had tons of problems with them.im sorry but in 2021 you'd think they could make a problem free camera!
Go pro should have been a honorable company and replaced the camera (Since they bricked it). They could have sent you to a known shop that would exchange it for another one. Hope you didn't damage your hammer :-D Ahh the Wankers!, i mean bankers, need i say more.
The one I bought to replace this one was a Swann for 129.00 (less than what it would have cost to exchange this one) It works great. I have the screen for it too. It has a laser for aiming. Pits a red dot at the center of the screen so you can see where you are shooting before you start. That only works in low light though, basically a laser pointer.
Been awhile since I heard of sandwiched components. Every time I see a tear down or repair of electronics I think of Legos 🤪 How very similar that approach resembles modern tech. Child's Play but more complex. All adults are.We are old children with complex toys🙂😎.
It's Wreck-It Wednesday here in Australia!
"Where's my ammer!"
What a coincidence. I do video transfers, and I've got your videos up on one of my monitors in the transfer room to keep me company.

Nobody repairs digital cameras. It is not worth it. If they break under warranty they eat em and replace.
How much of the outrageous shipping costs were due to GoPro and how much from the Canadian government?
All from gopro.

Thor's hammer ends it all.
Fun vid. $oft-Bricks need a kick! I hate that rubberized junk. Product gilding.
6:51 hero 10 just came out ;p
🤣Great ending Dave.
I know it's a bit chalk n cheese, but I still got my Canon A1 that I bought in 1980, and yes it still works.
I still have my Canon T90 and as far as I know it still works. Hasn't had a roll of film put through it in 24 years however.
I had an A1 back in the day, it was fantastic camera.

I don't run any of the phone apps. Just use the screen to frame and let it rip.
@@12voltvids I ended up doing that. copy to PC, edit and up it goes.
"pretty ancient 1080p"
Don't you think 1080 is still a standard?
1080 is the HD standard and what I shoot in. 1080p60. Don't know where you got it wasn't a standard from.
That camera does not have a SOC, system on chip, that chip is just an application specific microprocessor.

Think of the update as an upgrade.
how much space does it take to save original firmware and reset?
