I felt so slighted by some of those placements in SOTtEoT, I wrote all this up: - Fayt is easily S-Tier if you gear him up well and can become invincible in Galaxy/Universe if you know about that UberFayt trick. Easily the most consistent character of the bunch. - Sophia is the most accessible Symbol user in the game and has plenty of Symbols as Battle Skills, which makes spamming her Magic very easy. Also has higher INT and some exclusive Symbols that have utility in the Post-Game. S-Tier - Peppita is also wildly OP if you actually learn how to use her Basic Attacks (each can be used as Counters) and find the Item to teach her Dream Hammer or Magical Dance (if you can manage using her as a “Healer”). Most of her Battle Skills that AREN’T Power Dance, Healing Dance, Instanto Blast, and the ones listed are either mid or impossible to consistently use in Post-Game or higher difficulties than Universe. But she can hold her own even if you use Stun on all her Basic Attacks! She’d be S-Tier if she was a fair bit faster on her own…so A Tier! - Cliff is very very strong throughout the game and has various Battle Skills that are BUSTED and have a lot of flexibility in how you want to go one-on-one OR in crowds! The Max Shockwave spam tho is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!! He + Adray are borderline crutch characters throughout various parts of the game and get outshined over time…but Cliff can be integral in every part of the game’s main party. A-Tier! - Adray is the “Jack of All Trades Mage”…and notoriously the worst character in the game according to most players. I disagree. As a Mage, he casts faster than Sophia even when she has Quick Symbol and blazes past her if she’s stacking it + 1/2 Cast Time on a Staff/Accessory…and he gets Southern Cross very easy on (normally a Post-Game move). Stack lots of INT and set Southern Cross as your Short X (or O) and you can easily stack up damage even before the Post-Game! If you don’t want to do that…you can always manually use him as a Caster IF you can get around his awkward running speed! He’s the designated Disc One Easy Button and gets outshined as soon as Sophia gets some levels in so…C-Tier 🙃 - Maria is incredible full-stop. Especially after you get Energy Burst. But she’s kind of Middling throughout most of the game unless you cheese her Gravity Bullet glitches w/ Stun or IHPD to make her damage amazing. A Tier. - Nel is the best character in the game and I won’t hear anything else. Not only does Whirlwind have an easier to use glitch for Skills like Loot Item, Stun, Critical Hit, etc., but most of her Battle Skills are actually great. S-Tier - Albel is the quintessential “cool character, lame everything else” Party Member. He doesn’t have Battle Skills that Combo well together w/o possibly being Absorbed or doing zero damage. But he is imo the best 1v1 fighter in the game and puts even Mirage to complete shame. B-Tier. - Roger is very fun to use but he’s not very practical. Even Adray is far more useful due to his utility. You’d be hard pressed to find a way to use him consistently while doing monster damage (because he’s technically one of the best Damage Dealers). D-Tier. - Mirage is a faster and more fun & fluid version of Cliff. The only issue is she doesn’t have the unfettered power of spamming Max Shockwave like Cliff does. However, her Infinity Kick is great for combos and helping out the Party against crowds! I would even go as far as to say she’s easier to use for things like looting bosses and using Manually as a Damage Dealer & Looter/Stunlocker. I would go as far as to say it’s up to you whether or not losing Max Shockwave is a fair trade off for the more interesting to use Mirage. A+ Tier! Recently got the Plat. for SO3 so I know how to use each of them inside & out. Always take Nel!
@@locloudanerpg hehehe I just appreciate people still talking about one of my all time favorites in the 2020s. I consult videos like these for a Guide I’ve been dabbling with writing to bridge the gap between various YT videos, the originals from 2003/2004 on GameFAQs/NeoGAF/IGN and the Brady Official Game Strategy Guide (that notoriously has quite a few typos/mistakes and outright omits details pertaining to Stats/Elemental DMG/) while adding a whole lot of new tips/QoL grinding & playthrough pathing I’ve come up with while getting the Plat. and never saw anyone bring up or thought about trying on Reddit/GameFAQs/etc. Forums! I might feel inclined to do the same for SO2R or SO4, but dedicating that much time to a game again (roughly 2800 to 3200 Hours across two years) would be a monumental task idk if I have in me again 😅 Have you considered doing one (or have done) a Tier List for Party Members in Lost Odyssey?
That SO3 Tier list....Yikes. I get that you might be a big fan of Nel, but in no way does she ever end up being a better character choice than Sophia. Roger and Peppita are also very good characters in a game with 3 God tier characters (Hell, both of them are considered best for HP and MP kill capabilities outside of Maria). You seemed to have a hard time deciding if you wanted to give more credit to Late game viability or Ease-of-use characters. Good video, but as a SO3 vet, that portion was hard to watch.
Its so weird seeing how it took stae ocean took 6 games to make a decent mage.... Like HOW are they keep meseing it up. At least the tales game fighured it out half way through the ps3. Also. Midas what a man
@skyrander I love using the faerie aoe to heal and thunder flare/ meteor swarm.l to stunlock and do damage. I really like her design and personality to. I think the game would have been better if you had her more early just to atleast have her in the story more.
IMHO mages suck in EVERY SINGLE game while the 5th game has a BLOODY armor role immune to damage but lose HP every few seconds and the best way to NOT DIE from that role is to use that 1 battle skill that Drains over 9999 ENEMY HP only to restore your OWN HP by 9999 PER use of that move so that the Dead Man Walking Role can NEVER kill its user giving that role to a MAGE when the super bosses even at lv 255 may still hit for 99,999 HP in 1 hit ie Etheral Queen on Earth mode is pointless. That's why Ashton in 2nd STORY SUCKS with 999 HEALING star uses OPERA ONLY and Claude Opera Dias Chisato/Bowman ALL Bloody armored you can't really DIE.
Thank you for giving this fun series such love. Great lists
My problem with Celine's design has always been that shower curtain she's wearing for some reason.
I dig it. Very much.
Pepitta in low tier?!? Dream hammer is completly busted...

Agree with your wife. Fiore's outfit is easily top 5 of the dumbest outfits ive ever seen in a game.
