Sony FDR-AX53 4K test/demo video (shot in Amsterdam)

Some information about the creation of this test:
- Camera: Sony AX53
- The videos where imported on the editing system with Sony software: PlayMemories Home
- Editing with Davinci Resolve 14 @ Asus VivoBook Pro N580VD laptop (OS = Windows 10)
- Music production with Ableton Live 10 @ Asus ET2300 (OS = Windows 10)
- Most of the scenes are shot in 4K/25 frames, except the high speed shots (used for slow motion)
- A steady shot test at 5 min 34 sec (using Sony BOSS at 4K while walking)

This is very nice. So many camcorder videos here show manic zooming in and out, crazy angles. Gentle panning and some slow zooming out is usually enough. Thanks for sharing. Will watch the full video at some point as well.

Cool video. What file format does the Sony FDR-AX53 save date as. .avi? .mov? .mp4? or you need a third party software to convert the video file and convert that file in order to play in youtube?

Hello,
1) is it true that this camera supports SD memory cards in NTFS format?
2) is it true that when we shoot with this camera a long 4K video in XAVC S on an SD memory card in NTFS format, the camera does not divide files every 4 GB, only one large file is created, which size is over 4 GB?

I have no ideo what file format it is used. I just format the cards in the camera. If you record in 4K format, you need to use a fast SDHC or SDXC type card. I use several class 10 SDXC SanDisk cards. Check the website of Sony for more information (2) The shots that I make are not long, so when editing the video I have to work with several files in the editor. In this thread you can read there is a way to create bigger files when creating longer shots: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4176545 You should record in one of the XAVC S modes (4K and 1080p).

Thanks for information, may I ask how much GB space necessary to take a 4K video for 10 minutes? And how long time this machine can record 4K videos maximumly before finish his battery or before finish highest sd cards?

Thanks for your questions. Some anwsers below:
* About storage
Most of the time I record short shots. An example: 127 clips (25p frame rate, XAVC S-4K format, 60Mbps), total time of all clips about 30 minutes, total used storage 12,9 GB
Some 64 GB cards I use: SanDisk Extreme Pro (95MB/s), SanDisk Extreme 90MB/s. I estimate you get around 2-2.4 hours on these 64 GB cards (when using the settings mentioned above). There are also cards with higher capacity than 64 GB. It is important that you use cards that are fast enough for 4K video. Basically any name brand will work, as long as you make sure that you are buying a SDXC card that is rated Speed Class 3.
I had never a problem with a full SD card, but I always take extra cards with me.
* About recording time / batteries
If you connect a fully loaded battery, the camera has a 'left time' indicator in the screen. How long a battery can record, will depend on the circumstances (max. battery capacity, temperature, zoom usage, etc).
My main battery is the Sony NP-FV70A (1900 mAh), and I have always a seconday battery with me (Jupio NP-FV70A equivalent with less capacity, 1700mAh).
When I connect this fully charged Jupio battery the indicator shows 152 minutes left.
For charging I use a handy duo charger (jdc0010) that can charge two batteries simultaniously. To use this charger you need two adapter plates (Jupio Charger Plate for Sony NP-FP50 / NP-FH50 / NP-FV50) to connect it to the AX53 compatible batteries.
