This more than any show you can't judge on an episode by episode. Sit back and soak it in. You gonna need to always remind commenters on no spoilers. People love to be like "just wait til you see what happens to X person." That's a spoiler. Some people can't keep their mouth shut. They love breaking news to first time reactors. Can't wait to go through it with y'all. This will be a fun year with The Wire and The Sopranos. Two shows that beat all the odds in not just getting made but also all the creative liberty the writers were given.
For me the trinity of television dramas, are The Wire, Breaking Bad, and, The Sopranos. That's all I need in this here world. Though I do like other shows. 😂👍
It's not really a spoiler to know that something happens to someone if you have no idea what it is that's going to happen. Saying "wait till you see what happens to snot boogy" doesn't spoil anything if I have no idea what happens to him. 😂😂
This show is a masterpiece how they realistically portray how things really are. Whether it's the streets, the police, politics, the education system or the media. This show dives deep in to everything and shows how corrupt and messed up everything in the world is.
@@dripcaraybbx that’s what I meant. It’s can’t be highly ranked AND underrated. Overlooked by many, perhaps, but generally considered one of the best shows ever
Such an important series, everybody should watch this show, can’t wait to journey through another Top 5 show for me personally with two of the best reactors period!
It's wild how they had that flashback at the end. HBO must have really pushed for that because I think it's one of maybe like two times all series where they actually spell shit out for the audience. I think audiences in the 10s and 20s are much better about paying attention during shows now that there's a huge backlog of quality tv.
HBO definitely forced David Simon to do it, he's said so himself a few times. It was a pilot, so HBO didn't want to take any chances that audiences wouldn't remember. Also, you're right, before The Wire and HBO there weren't very many shows that told a long story over the course of a whole season. People were used to episodic stuff like Law and Order where a whole story is told in one episode.
This is the only show where I would lean forward and pay attention to watch the Previously On segment, because of the giant cast and multiple storylines, it was a challenge to remember what happened last week.
Remember how screening of the pilot went so badly, half of the audience fell asleep... I'm guessing HBO executives were all up in his shit but can you blame them? Millions of dollars invested and people said it was boring as he'll and confusing too but they still believed in him enough to throw money down the drain and somehow it paid off
I’m from Baltimore born and raised…been here 40 yrs….was cool when they’d film it down here…very realistic depictions of what it was like, I’m from Northeast Bmore
Formal: "Hey that's my boy!" "From Gotham." "He got that voice that you make you feel you feel like he about to spit some wisdom. Like some wise shit." Me: (Who has seen "The Wire" multiple times) Oh, god ... they're so unprepared to meet Rawls, LOL!
I'm back at it again. The first intersection of a post 9/11 World. High tech, and it's shift from the war on drugs to the war on terror, when we began to lose all of our privacy. Very sophisticated series.
I still can't believe you guys are only at 3.5k, you guys are my favorite RUclips reactors, you're interactions make me feel like I'm chilling with the homies back home. Never change F double R's never change.
Yeah, the most real show on television and one that hits all the hardest because of the way it shows, more than telling. They go to some real dark places and they make you uncomfortable, but you know it never is gratuitous. It's just that, rather than telling you that there's racism in the police, they straight up show you the major for homicides in one of the cities with the most black homicide victims in the US casually drop the hard r n-word while he complains about stats like they matter more than people. It's a hell of a ride. Most people who don't click with the show do so because they can't get past the first 4 episodes, which is where they slowly set the pieces and build the world, but the payoff to that is just trmendous.
"This America, man." Perfect final line to close the perfect cold open to a show. Three simple words so brutally yet graciously encapsulating the class struggle and economic underrepresentation for POC in this country. Gotta get in how you can and make it work. That's how the system was laid out for us.
I saw someone else point out that the performers for each opening mirror the subject matter for the season. Not my observation, but I thought it was interesting. 1 is done by a black soul group - season 1 focuses on crime in predominantly black neighborhoods. 2 is Tom Waits, a white guy - season 2 focuses on crime in predominantly white neighborhoods (The dock workers, Greeks, and Russians). 3. Black R&B group - season 3 goes back to the pits. 4. A group of Baltimore teens - season 4 has a focus on the kids. 5. Steve Earle is in the show and a former addict - season 5 focuses on the newsroom, and Bubbles' redemption is one of the main stories. Steve plays his sponsor, Waylon.
The Wire is one of those shows I've only seen once, probably 10 years ago now. Looking forward to watching you guys watch this series so I get to see it for a second time.
Another favorite groundbreaking show of mine. The Wire is a epic masterpiece. Season's 3 and 4 are my favorite. Season 2 is my least favorite. Season 1 good too tho starting out. The real tragedy is that this show ain't never won any awards smh. In my opinon this was maybe too raw for those people to handle. The Wire was the first 1 hour show to focus on issues in an urban city between the police, the local goverment, and the drug dealers. Most of the extras you see in the Wire are real. Just like there would'nt be Breaking Bad without The Sopranos, there wouldn't be The Sopranos without The Wire!
in my opinion, the best show ever created for television, hands down. Breaking Bad is more of a thrill ride (and my runner up) but the Wire is so deep and a slow burn with such impact. hope you enjoy and hope more reactors watch this so more people will pick it up. I'm along for the ride for sure.
I love how as this show goes on it shows a truly realistic version of the dysfunction and corruption in police departments, and how their own screwups and internal power plays we never get to see give gangs the opportunity to level the playing field a bit more. Hell, it shows how the cops themselves often act like a gang.
I'm excited to watch your reactions to what is, as far as I'm concerned, the best tv show ever made. Just brilliant! Side note: Bunk joked about leaving the mouse's carcass out as a warning to other mouses and that's exactly what happens at the end of the episode with the murdered witness, since he had already testified, so it wasn't about stopping it, but rather about letting people know what would happen if they decided to do the same. All scenes and dialogues in the show are relevant, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.
The first time I saw this show, I didn't like season 1 that much I don't know why. I got hooked with season 2 and after that I couldn't stop watching the show.
Okay, it took me a couple tries. I am three episodes in. I like it so far. I like that it's not a case of the week drama. It's more like Line of Duty, The Killing, Broadchurch, Happy Valley. All the actors are good. Natural, not pretty people saying things and doing stuff like so many shows these days. It has a bit of a '70s vibe. They don't just spoon feed you plot points. I am intrigued.
