Your oscilloscope is like your signature for your channel! It’s that extra piece of visual data that not a single other synthfluencer uses (at least not in every video/at least that if not seen). Very cool, very you. Thanks for the great content man👍🏻
Yea man I remember the 1st time I saw a Jorb video and I was immediately captivated by that. It just has an air to it of "This is gonna be worth your attention"
I didn't read thru all the comments but in case nobody pointed it out already: The AC-coupling removes DC-components of a signal by passing the signal through an internal filtering capacitor. So in case you would want to display oscilloscope-music a la Jerobeam Fenderson you would want to put it in DC-coupling as some of the animation effects are achieved by dc-components.
Thanks Jorb, thanks to your video, I finally bought an oscilloscope, I paid more than I’d like for it, but a bought it locally as I didn’t want to run the risk of it getting damaged in shipping.
I've had an oscilloscope for longer than I've known your channel, and I can also say it's my most used piece of music gear besides my audio interface. It's a B+K Precision 1479B, very similar to yours but with no delay and the intensity and power separated, as well as no "hold" settings. I use it while listening to music, and it's showed me a lot about how finished tracks "look" and has given me a lot of insight as to how dynamics play into different genres. I pretty much always have it running when at my computer or playing with synths and it's given me a far greater understanding of sound than any other tool. What I've learnt from it has been especially helpful when it comes to understanding wavetable synths like Serum, as I can largely know what a wavetable is going to sound like just by looking at it. I also use it while listening to horror themed audio books, with all my other lights off. Really adds to the experience :)
Oscilloscope is a must have. I understood how FM and PWM (and how affecting many other things) are working looking at Hydrasynth screen! I'm thinking about buy Korg NTS-2 for my other hardware ☺️ I like modern digital hardware a little bit more than old school. Also about Korg minologue as first synth - it's a must have. I made a mistake buying Behringer Deepmind 6 as my first synth. And sold it pretty fast cause here actually many reasons why you don't see this synths on every studio despite rich functionality 😊
My brother is an audio repair man.. I have a recording synthesizer studio.. I helped him move the other day and he was like... Hey, you should take this brand new in the box oscilloscope! And I was like what can I do with it besides look cool in my studio? This video answers that question !
There are so many uses besides being a synth nerd and just tryin to flex gear. It’s an actual audio tool. It’s really helpful with correcting phase issues etc when recording multiple mics/ or several instruments when always recording DI.
Thanks for this video! I lucked out on craigslist here in Austin and picked up a fully functional ye olde Tektronix 2465 for a hundred bucks. I don't need all 4 traces but it might be fun to try to beat match two turntables in stereo. Looking forward to trying this out tonight! Keep making great content!
I have an oscilloscope, and now I need to get a synth to go along with it. I use an analog Tektronix scope just because it looks so cool. I want to use my scope to draw mushrooms because I love ‘shrooms.
In fact it was watching waves into an oscilloscope that started to get me into sound synthesis and synthesizers. And the oscilloscope I used the most (and I still use in my studio) was actually a program that I wrote by myself :-D
That was ace. Ive always wanted one but could never actually commit. Yours is so quintessentially you. Going to give the nts2 a run. At least its a start. 👍
Weird timing. This place I’m demolishing right now has an oscilloscope they’re liquidating and I’m waiting for the price to drop enough for me to be reasonable to take home. It’s such a cool looking device!
Your scope can help you make noise! Put LDRs on the display, bias and wire into Eurorack, feed interesting signals to scope X, Y and Z (if it has intensity mod).
Nice! I love scopes but never had one. I just like the way they look - reminds me of a mad scientist's laboratory - and I always wanted one of those as a kid 😎
@@JorbLovesGear Where do you think the best place to buy one would be, Ebay or similar maybe ? Or do you know of any good excess/ex-stock Etc. hardware markets.
@@brianbrooks4448 I believe mine came from ebay, I just searched for auction only ending soonest and got the first one under 50$. No real tips for finding anything specific, I got lucky
I believe you under-appreciate the xy-mode. afaik it can be very handy in tuning two oscillators (separate outs) (gives rotating objects that stand still in tune) and also when visually assessing phase issues (stereo out) (destructive interference stuff), much like a "goniometer" (is it called that? it may even be the very same thing, dunno) ... I'm not sure though, don't use this myself
I read online that it is important to have an interface/output with dc coupling and not ac coupling because it creates a clearer image. Does this have any burden on setting your inputs to ac instead of dc? It is difficult for me to tell any difference when switching between the two on my oscilloscope.

I really do feel that way, its a part of my visual language. Thanks!

check out loopop!
(jerobeam fenderson noises)
You have the best voice for voiceovers and your teachingstyle is awesome. Thank you Jorb!
Nothing like proper signal analysis tools! One of the most beautiful rabbit holes for a synth freak 😊

A great way to use the 2 pre fader sends, on most analogue mixers, that are unused for more most people who don't require booth monitoring..BRILLIANT
I find a hardware oscilloscope very useful as well. Plus yeah, it looks cool.

Hell yeah, enjoy!

I think that oscilloscope looks very nice, I'm a sucker for that old white computer look.

Just bought a BK model 1460 today! This thing is sweet I can't wait to use it tomorrow only $40!
Yeah, your oscilloscope is kind of a Jorb trademark at this point. Cool piece of kit.
🙏🙏I think so too! Cheers
Cool! Got polish one produced in 1973. Works perfectly :)

I agree. That’s why I liked the Minilogue XD I had.
This was VERY interesting and helpful. I've always been low key fascinated by your oscilliscope.
🙏Exactly the goal, get the info out there

If you don't have an oscilloscope, use a small effect: Analog Reason GR3 and any TV. Or GR2 to the Eurorack for multiple curves at once :)
I really fancied the new Korg one but decided to cancel the order because of $ but I think it'd be useful!

Nts2 is dope, almost want it just for the spectrum analyzer
Thanks! been wondering how to do this.

Seeing the microphone signal on that oscilloscope looks very pleasant!
this vid is gonna do great, i think you're underestimating Big Oscilloscope
Don't tell anyone I only did this to appease the visualization lobby
This is a great introduction to the oscilloscope for students.

I hoping you'd make a video on this, thanks!
I really want an old school scope like that
theyre all over, you totally can get one

You can make a oscialltor out of an old TV,. I want to do a whole wall of them all pinging the same wave
I have the same one and i want to connected it to my korg-a10 can you show all the wires please
Was looking at a KORG NTS-2 but this made me want an old analogue on instead. Less practical but the vibes...
vibes over all, unfortunately
Really great video, thanks. I am just doing research and hoping to acquire a scope pretty soon so this was really useful. Subscribed!
Thank you for this. Seriously!!!! This is very helpful information.
Very cool indeed.
thanks for the video man
Reminds me of a pip boy from the fallout series lol. Great video as alway Jorby!

Am I crazy, or do you some times have a smaller screen run out and held in an adjustable vise clamp? Is that a newer scope?
@@pablowentscobar that's a mirror, pointed at the scope!
"feeling burnt out lately" - hang in there man. We're not going anywhere. :)
🙏🙏🙏
I appreciate this content, friend! Noice!
12:33 when it looks like you’ve become an oscilloscope and talking at the screen with your content wavy eyes and noisy mouth 😂
Oh my god lol
Ok but when are you putting it into a PipBoy?
😭😂Would be dope
I dream of the day i can watch my stuff on a real oscilloscope :)
cheap ones are all over, give it a shot!
mics clean 😉
thumbs up for oscilloscopes. or as someone close to me once said: are you watching soviet TV again?😁
cool! anyone know what the best oscilloscope VST is that does not break the bank? or a hardware oscilloscope that actually is available at the moment?
Playing one note on one channel and another note on another channel while in xy mode generates a lissajous pattern.
after a quick search, this is an expensive piece of kit bruv!
theres cheapo ones on ebay all the time! i sort by auction only ending soonest.
👍
I have an old jackson scope that died.
Golly!
Is that lmnc ms10?
The very same!
Love it.
I'm gonna hook this up to my TV and see if I can make any shapes from political ads
I’ve always wanted an oscilloscope, but never knew how to set one up.
ahh WELCOME
Take great care NOT to ground an oscilloscope connected to a grounded (mains) item.
Why
@@VincentsVideoVisions It will pull mains through all your equipment. Google it to find out more.
Look at your noises.
Love it thank you. Shout out to my router geeks.
Can you try to get a hold of a nts 2 and demo it? With the west pest 🪳 would be cool 😎
I'd be open to it, if only @korg would hit me up
Fun stuff.
