Thank you. I’m really enjoying having the little Motorhome. Away in it now making a travel video. Out of range for a while which makes it hard to get back to messages I’ve received. Hope all is well. 😃👍
Excellent video, thank you. The dealer for our new van wants almost $600 to install an anti flap kit on the 3m Fiama awning, however I already have a kit from our previous van. You have given me a very good idea how I can modify things to make them fit. You’ve just saved me a lot of money. Thanks again.
Great to hear (or read) that Mark. It’s definitely not a $600 job. It took me about 2 hours and that was only because it was the first time Ive ever done it and was overly cautious about it. I think I triple checked every measurement before I did any work. Been away 3 or 4 times now and they’ve worked great each time. Glad to know my vid saved you a few bux. Safe Travels mate 😃👍
Good on ya mate ! Where there’s a will there’s a way . You’ve not only saved yourself a costly repair down the road but you’ve helped others do the same . Thanks for sharing my friend awesome job .
Thanks mate. Yep I bought this little camper van earlier and was told I couldn’t get these brackets for my awning. Good to prove them wrong and do the job myself. Hopefully it’ll help others in the same situation too. Might be a change in my channel niche coming with this. As always thanks for your support mate 😃👍
@@tubbyguyoutdoors Thanks mate. Really appreciate that. Same goes here too. I get very busy at work especially with covid so may disappear for a while but will always come back. 😃👍
i can see how this is going to be a game-changer mate. even in this video, the wind was enough to make the first installation on the left side difficult.
hammering in the pegs and hearing the chipmunks was quite interesting mate ( hyper lapse ...lol. ). I can honestly say my van's awning already has a clip that doesn't work so the tent pole idea is a great one. I'm going to get it fixed under warranty but it seems like a common complaint as you mentioned here. Great video Den and this new addition will really expand the channel mate.
@@RyanIngleton Thsnks Ryan. I really think every awning should come standard with anti flap bars. I also cringed when the chipmunks came on at the end. I forgot to mute that part. Still I think the hammering down sounded kinda cool. There’s a lot of things I live about my new little Motorhome but a bit disappointed in the flimsy awning and rock hard cheap mattress. I’m sure these anti flap bars, extra poles and screens solve the awning weakness problems. Now I’ll just have to replace the mattress. A bit annoying having to change these things when they’re brand new. First world problems I spose. I also think this Motorhome thing may mean another change to my channel niche. Hopefully for the best 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms I think the motor home adventures can really strengthen your niche mate as I’m sure it’s mostly along the coast where your adventures will continue. Motor homes and caravanning is massing right now in our country alone and so is the audience for it. I agree with the anti flapper and my awning as mentioned will need a repair first service. My mattress is ok but not fantastic. It’s a queen bed with a 150mm extension to allow for Jesse to sleep somewhere. I’m taking it to Canberra next week then down to Melbourne the week after as we purchased tickets to the AO and we do not wish to fly. ( probably shouldn’t go at all but the tickets are for the final and we have never seen something like that before). I’ve seen so many good ideas to buy for the van so slowly but surely I’ll be grabbing them. The best thing I have ever purchased in an induction cooker. Cheap as chips and cooks in wind like no tomorrow. I was surprised how expensive the anti flapper was mate. It surely is a crime they aren’t provided initially.
@@RyanIngleton Sounds like fun mate. I always enjoy a weekend away in Canberra and Melbourne. Nice restaurants and bars in both. I’m sure the tennis will be a buzz too. Safe travels champion. 😃👍
Love the videos mate and enjoy when the new ones come out. I am just about to pick up my 2022 RM20.5 and will be getting a set of the anti flap bars as the carefree awnings are flimsy. Couple of questions if ok 1/ What length of tent pole have you added to end of the awning to help support the thin legs 2/ Now that you have the additional tent poles do you only tie them down and not the awning legs with tie ropes? once again love the videos and your little companion. we have a black toy poodle who loves coming away with us.
Hi Peter. Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m really thrilled that you and others enjoy watching my videos. I love looking back on my holidays snd like that others enjoy tuning in to them too. I don’t actually tie or peg my poles down at all but always run a shade/ privacy screen across the front and rear sides and I peg the privacy screens down. I find with them and the anti flap bars my awning is as solid as ever. From memory my tent poles extend to about 7 foot. Thanks again for the support mate and safe travels. You’re gonna love it 😃👍
Thanks so much for putting up this video. I am a week away from picking up the exact same Jayco motorhome RM20.5, and will be repeating what you have done here. A question for you, with the 2 short 40mm 'c' channel pieces, do you leave them on the awning when it is retracted back to the body or do you remove them at the same time as removing your anti flap bars. I think I just answered my own question actually? Regards, Wayne
Maybe we should start up a RM20.5 travel group? Just a thought. I used to belong to a Melbourne based 4wd group and those years, travelling with friends, have been the best years of my life.
Yeh. That’s be good. I was going to buy my little Motorhome when I retired but my wife convinced me to buy one now still a few years off retirement. We plan on doing lots of trips away when I retire and a few weekends away with a couple of two or three week trips when we can line up our holidays together. I think joining a group/ club with other Motorhomers is a definite thing I’ll do when we retire. Be great to be in a Motorhome convoy travelling around with others with the same toys 😃
Great stuff. First video i've found on carefree antiflap adaptation and enjoyed the comprehensive coverage. Just one question as you moved those brackets inwards 80 mil did you have to move them back when you put awning back so they could line up and lock? Cheers
Hi Kerry. Sorry I missed your message earlier. The two outer brackets remained in the same position that I originally moved them to as they seemed to line up ok when I retracted the awning. I later moved the centre bracket when I installed an additional centre rafter. But I had to move that again as it wasn’t positioned in between the two arm brackets on the Motorhome side wall. Just a little bit of trial and error until I found the right spot. As I mentioned in the video the awning is so much stronger now with the antiflap bars. 😃👍
@@ianw3294 Sounds good Ian. I have seen fiamma awnings with anti flap bars so I think you’d be able to fit a set on to yours. In fact I think every awning can have them installed. I did find it odd that my salesman said that I couldn’t have them on my awning. This made me have a try myself and it was easy and works well. It’s only a hook type bracket at one end and a hole at the other. I used to avoid putting the awning out on windy days but now with the antiflap kit it stays out in windy conditions without any drama. Best of luck with your Motorhome. You’re gonna love it. 😃👍
Tropical Zoom, Obviously you didn't know that Aussie Traveller do make adaptor Kits to suit Carefree, Fiamma and Thule Awnings so that you don't need to hack bits off to make them fit.
You’re wrong. I do know that Aussie Traveller sell adaptor kits to suit my awning and others. I decided to modify my bars, and not hack them as you try to suggest. This makes them quicker and easier to attach to the van. The less parts needed the better. Modifying the bars was a better option.
If you put as much effort into actually doing what you are supposed to be doing as you do talking, your film clip would be 10 minutes shorter and you audience better informed. But I do like your camper, and the thought process you go through to achieve what is needed without damage to your baby.
Thanks mate. Yes it does drag on a bit. I probably should’ve made the video after installing and fitting the bars instead of during. I make shorter videos these days. All a learning process. Thanks for the feedback 😃👍
I’ve tried to buy these anti flap bars and have had absolutely zero luck…why do you still advertise them I’ve even called carefree in Colorado take it off of you tube cheezz 🚶🏻♂️
I’m not advertising them or selling them. I’m just showing others how to fit them. I’ve just checked eBay and there’s a lot of them for sale there. Maybe give that a try. 😃👍
