Jayco Conquest Drop Down Bed Switch Upgrade

After 3 years I finally decided to upgrade the drop down bed switch in our Jayco Conquest RM20.5.
The original switch in our 2021 model motorhome was over complicated and a bit of a nightmare to reset if ever the bed went in to error mode.
This new switch has a simple on off switch that allows the bed to lower as far as you like without having to worry about pre programming or re programming.
A lot of Jayco owners with these drop down beds have changed these switches over to prevent themselves ever getting caught out in the predicament where the bed locks into the up position.

@@vantripinoz369 Thanks Mark. It’s an easy job and so much better than the old switch. Have to let you in on a little secret. The window view is green screen tricks. I live a couple of hundred metres away from this beach but was parked in my front yard. I’m also a bit fascinated in green screen effects. 😃
@@TropicalZooms it looks great. I had wondered if it was green screen. Did you do that in your editing program? I’m using capcut pro
@@vantripinoz369 Yes. I bought a large piece of core flute from Bunnings. (The same plastic as a real estate sign) and sprayed it lime green. I cut out two squares to fit my two side windows. I then went out to the headland and filmed the point for about 5 minutes on a nice day. Then with my editing program (iMovie) put it into the window scene. I leave the green screens under my lounge cushions ready for the next video. So now when I’m talking inside my van it looks like I’m down the beach. I just thought it might look more appealing to the viewers. All up about $20 and an hours work. 😃👍

Hi Dennis. Does not having the skylight available when bed is up concern you? What function does the single rear camera play? Is it sufficient? I notice the leather Jayco MHs have dual rear cameras… Cameron
@@Camh1968 Hello Cameron. 1 We never really use the sky light so it doesn’t bother us when bed is up. Earlier on we’d open the skylight blind and look at the stars but these days I don’t even think about it. The rear camera is always on for both driving and reversing. I thought the bigger mhs have two cameras one for all driving and another for reversing with a seperate reversing screen in the van.
@@TropicalZooms thanks Dennis. Is there enough internal light during daytime with bed up and skylight covered up? How hard would it be to have dual rear cameras installed ? Cheers
@@Camh1968 Yes. Definitely enough light with all blinds open. I actually leave the windscreen covers on too and still find enough light.
Not sure about installing dual cameras. In saying that I don’t feel the need as I generally get a pretty good view with the one camera we have already 😃👍

HI mate. 2-3 years on from this video, is your passion still strong about this RM20-5? Besides extra solar, battery - what new further points of interest can you share (if any)? What changes would make? I know everything in this game is a compromise and appreciate the pros and cons of this RM20.5. We know storage is very limited, but how is internal storage (clothes, food, etc.) managed for around 2 months at a time (with a partner) in this vehicle? I'm not real keen on connecting an external storage box at rear. We are close to order a new build with the clothes washing machine. I think we can manage in just buying food every few days, but clothes and general stuff - where to store it? Cameron
@@Camh1968 Hi Cameron. About 3 years on and I still love the little rm20.5. As we’re still working full time our longest trip away is only about 3 weeks but in saying that we think it’s very comfortable to live in. In saying that, I’ve had a look in the 25 foot models and think they would be so much more comfortable to live in BUT when it goes to pulling up outside shops, on beaches and harbours I’d struggle. As I may have mentioned in this video we use our MH as a day tripper too. I never wanted to tow a car behind us do we just use the van to get out and about. It does mean either not setting up the awning or packing things away the night before which either way doesn’t really take long of bother us. I remember thinking when we got the van that I’ll probably replace the flimsy little awning down the track but after 3 years it’s still doing the job. If I was to order one today I’d ask for a manual wind out awning as I think too many things can play up with the electric awning. I changed the bed switch about a year ago to a new one as I know a. Umber of people were having problems related to the switch and their beds were occasionally stuck in the up position. I also want you to get a bull bar or nudge bar down the track as I’m a bit paranoid about wildlife on some of the country roads. Another thing that I would’ve loved would be the swivel seats as I know the models before mine had the front swivel seats which I think I’d use if we had them. As far as clothes go I’m a bit of a minimalist and just use one of the shelves in the cupboard opposite the fridge. My wife uses the other shelves as well as the cupboard on top of the fridge. I never thought I’d go this but I’ve actually removed my Webber q and replaced it with a double butane burner bbq as it takes up less room and fits into the overhead storage and not the trip hazard that the Webber was. As far as cooking goes it does the job. Looking back after 3 years I can honestly say there’s no regrets. I do like the look of the all terrain Mercedes van and would have loved that but it was around $60,000 dearer which I couldn’t justify as 95% of what I want to do is on road driving. I love the big fridge and also love the stove set up. I’m probably one of few but I always cook my bacon & eggs on toast inside with the windows open & never found it a problem. Heading up to the Sunshine Coast again this summer and can’t wait. Still happy with the rm20.5 and can plan to do a lot more travelling when I semi retire and start using lots of LSL next July onwards. Mechanically I’ve also had no dramas and would recommend this little Motorhome to anyone. 😃👍
@@TropicalZoomsmany thanks Dennis. I am close to placing an order for a new RM20.5. Yeah, I think we can get around the limited clothes storage. Per RM20.5 Forum, the recent pic of the rear molding panel blowing off the 29.5 after being passed by a road train on the Nullarbor is a serious concern on Jayco QA and workmanship I have however. 🙁
Those rock pools look so cool. I’m hoping the blow hole is pumping when we come through.

Did you do any training walks before starting your Camino? If so how many miles did you do each day and how many days did you train? I am starting the Camino Frances September 10, 2024.
@@debostrander8240 Hi. We only really trained once a week by doing a 20 to 25 km walk along the coast. As we both work full time we didn’t really have a lot of time to do any more. The last couple of weeks were rainy & we didn’t get out at all. I Spose we were a little unprepared for the full Camino. In saying that if I could narrow it down I actually found days 3 and 4 of the entire Camino the hardest. As day 1 and two were the walk to the top of the Pyrenees I was a bit stiff and sore on day 3 walking down the Pyrenees to Zuburi and then day 4 to Pamplona. I actually find it harder on my knees walking down the mountains than up the mountains. We had a two day stop at Pamplona and to my surprise after that I was fine. I think I mentioned somewhere in one of my videos that the Camino itself makes you fit. Even though the remaining 90% of the Camino was just as challenging physically we didn’t seem to struggle with aches and pains again. Don’t get me wrong I was always tired after each day, especially the longer walks. 25kms seemed to be the distance where I seemed to hit the wall but by 25kms we were just about there. We had a couple of 35km days toward the end and they were tough. My best tip is to stop every 10km for a coffee, try and grab a couple of bits of fruit & boiled eggs as a snack and fill that bottle up. Good luck on your Camino. I actually loved it more than I thought I would. Stop and enjoy the view and take it all in. Maybe make a video like we did. Great memories to look back on. Best of luck 😃👍

at 6:57, great outdoor stove setup. Are you still happy with its performance? Do both cooking tools come with this stove setup (square flat plate and baking/frying kit with lid)?
This is a great little stove set up. I really like it. I actually have a webber q stove that i thought was the best you could get BUT it takes up a lot of storage room and is too big to fir under the seat and doesn't really fit into the overhead compartment with all my other gear. I took it out and brought this little double burner stove with us a few holidays back and actually found it better in so many ways. The biggest advantage is that its smaller and packs away into a nice little carrying case. Yes it does come with everything you see the single removable hotplate as well as the caserole dish and glass lid. It runs off the little butane cyclinders that aren't bulky like the LPG cyclinder you need for the webber. I take off the hotplate and cook bacon and eggs in a saucepan for breaky and have also cooked a lot of different dishes in the caserole dish. To be fair the webber probably does do a better bbq but in saying that I`m not a huge steak eater these days and the new cooker seems to suit me better. I never thought I`d want to sell my little webber but I really cant see myself going back that way. The new double stove was about a third of the price too. I think we got it at Bunnings.
@@TropicalZooms many thanks. It’s definitely a winner for the limited space you have and fits perfectly on the outboard fold out ledge. Just on the internal space bit, it seems light on for storage space. How do you and other RM20.5 users optimise internal space for clothes, food, and other stuff? Do you bring your bikes inside during the night, even if they are locked up on the outside bike racks?
@@Camh1968 Morning mate. As far as internal space and clothes go I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist. I fit everything I need in the lower cupboard opposite the fridge. My wife on the other hand uses the cupboard above that as well as the one above the fridge. As far as the rest of the van goes I always say we can fit everything you need but not necessarily everything you want. The bikes I always leave on the bike rack. I cover them with a bike cover but also bought a 2 metre length of high tensile steel chain that I also wrap around the frames and padlock to the tow bar so they’ll be extreme difficult to pinch. We’ve had the van 3 years now and very happy with it. The sacrifice in size is more than made up in convenience as I love the fact that I can easily park in most areas, at beaches, boat ramps and lots of regular car parks. I never ever feel like it’s two small. We even have inflatable paddle boards stored in the overhead Luton so I can still go play in the water. 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms hi mate. Many thanks. Yes, storage of items will definitely need to be creative. Do you think a full bull bar is needed on these RM20.5s if doing long distances? Would a nudge bar be ok for mounting Radio antennas? Will you be installing any bar on your front going forward?
@@Camh1968 I’m actually thinking about a nudge bar or a bull bar. A lot of people have told me not to worry if I’m only driving through the daylight hours bug after accidentally hitting a possum in my car a few months back I’m a bit paranoid. I’m thinking about an alloy bull bar to keep the weight down, as others have told me if I go a big heavy steel bull bar I’ll have to upgrade the front shocks which would double the price. I think an alloy bull bar would cost around $4000 installed. I think a nudge bar would be about $1500.

Hi. I understand this model comes with a 3-way fridge installed as a standard option. Can you confirm how a 3 way fridge differs to a normal compressor fridge? Can a compressor fridge be installed in this MH as an option from new build?
@@Camh1968 Hello. This Motorhome comes standard with a 3 way fridge which runs on battery when driving, gas when off power and 240v electricity when connected to power. One main advantage with a 3 way fridge is that they run silent. You can opt to upgrade to a compressor fridge but also keep in mind that you’ll also have to upgrade your battery pack as well as solar and maybe even dc to dc charger. As the compressor fridge runs on 12 volt power when driving and off grid. They do however run from 240v when on power. 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms ok thanks. Are you satisfied with the standard inclusion of the 3 way fridge?
@@Camh1968 Yes. It’s a nice big 170 litre fridge. Runs well on gas and electricity. We mostly stay at van parks with power but have done a few weekends without power. I think you’d get about 2 to 3 weeks away running on gas for the fridge. I Spose that’s the only hassle if you’re constantly travelling off grid, we also cook on gas too. As I mentioned earlier setting up the power and panels for a compressor fridge would be expensive too. In saying that, I don’t think I’d ever worry about changing as my 3 way does the job for us. 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms many thanks. Also, what is the insulation like in these vehicles? Do the dual pane windows offer enough insulation?
@@Camh1968 Insulation seems fine. I don’t go to any extremely cold areas but have been away in winter in single digit temperatures without any dramas. I know a few that have installed diesel heaters for the colder areas and love them. The air con works really well too. 😃
2 years and ago still helpful, you absolute boss! Was melting my brain trying to figure out the wheels😅
@@joaocoxixo5449 Thanks so much for the kind feedback my friend. Glad my video helped you get the job done. 😃👍
Go you legends
Mines taken a beating had to fix it many times adding strength but still here and just going
@@paulhendo8726 Good to hear (or read) that it’s still going strong mate. 😃👍
Wow. How did you ever make it up all those hills. Amazing effort. That was probably the hardest out of the whole time was it ? I have watched all the ads 🤣🤣🤣
@@carolynsmith8462 Thanks so much. I thought my ad income had spiked a bit 😃👍. Yeh, some of those hills were tough but it really surprised me just how fit you become doing these hikes every single day. I think even though it was only one month we were so much fitter at the end than we were in the beginning. 😃💪🏽
Always good even the second time, You sure do a Good Job, Loved that Life ! Keep them rolling !
Thank you. Always nice to get these messages from my number 1 fan. 😃👍
Loved this one. Great adventures on the bikes. Great to see the buildings that are over a thousand years old
@@carolynsmith8462 Yeh. That was one of my favourite parts of the trip. After walking nearly 400kms it was a nice change to hop on the bikes. 😃👩🚴♂️🚴♂️
Yummo 😊
How do you add “Titles” to the Video ? Husky Ferry ?
just watched on the big screen again well done Denno
@@pfitzy849 Thanks Fitz 😃👍
All of these villages look amazing. Nothing like it in Australia 😢 How do you go about booking your accommodation? Are you doing a walking tour?
@@SteveAMcPherson Hi Steve. My wife actually booked almost all of our accommodation before we left. We were a little concerned that we’d turn up in a town and not be able to find a vacancy. 90% booked on booking.com and the remaining 10% from direct email. We saw other hikers get turned away and have to walk up to 5km off the main track to get a bed. For me, after walking 5,6 or 7 hours in a day I was relieved to know there was a bed waiting for me. We didn’t go with any group tour, booked it all on our own and saved a fortune. 😃👍
@@TropicalZooms Wow! She has done amazing! How were you able to workout how far you could walk each day and the towns you would walk though? I gather there must be some in-depth maps online?
@@SteveAMcPherson Yes. All my wife’s calculations. Wed try and average 20 to 25km each day but some days were a little shorter and longer. My wife just read the Facebook groups for about 6 months beforehand and read the reviews. We tried to stay on the trail all the time and only went 2 km off track once as we struggled to get accomodation on track that time. Everyone has different ideas but I wouldn’t do it any other way now. 😃👍
Another great video. Thanks Den, brilliant.
@@plato9797 Thanks Mike. All up from start to finish we did over 1 million steps. Pretty stoked 😃👩👍
You are of Olympic material, perhaps 2032?
@@skywalkerallan1877 Jeez I don’t know about that Al. Certainly didn’t break any records. Although maybe went alright for my age division 😃👍
