  • In this video I show you how to make shutters and especially wooden batten shutters. I had an order from a customer to make 5 pairs of shutters for her house so I made a video of it to share the building process. You will see the kind of wood and hardware that I use to make each batten and as well the on site installation of the shutters.
    I hope you will find the process clear and that it might help you making your own shutters.

    Bonjour MIH! thank you from Scotland. Norway just got 120mph Hurricane storm today. we are not that far from Norway on the same latitude so part of our renovation of our cottage is to put on storm shutters. Your simple yet very strong design is great , thank you for taking the time and enormous effort to do the video and in a language we are comfortable with . Brian

    Nice Video, but a note your diagonal boards should be farthest away at the top from the hinge so that board is in compression and not extension

    Very nice and you make it look easy. I would have put the locking mechanism on the other side of the shutters. As it is, you can only open the shutters from the outside.

      Thank you, as I said in the video, mu customer asked for the locking mechanism outside, this is why I made it that way 😉

    Nice video! I have noticed one thing you should look at in the future: the Z brace is oriented wrong, it should have been mounted from the lower hinge up so it serves as a compression support.

    • @woodvibecreation
      @woodvibecreation  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yup, you're right. I knew it but unfortunately I mounted it the wrong way at the moment. Since then the customer didn't call me back to say that it moved so I guess it was solid enough not to move

    • @DomagojMago
      @DomagojMago 8 месяцев назад

      It won't move right away, only after maybe a few years. Just a detail to be careful of in the future.

    Thank you for sharing this video - What type of wood did you use. I live in quite a wet climate.

    • @woodvibecreation
      @woodvibecreation  2 года назад

      Hi I used pine tree. I don't know what wood be the best wood for your climate. Instinctly I wood say that tropical woods are the most water resistant but it wood be probably way too expensive for shutters. In France we make them most of the time with pine tree, the paint protects them quite well from water damages. If you really are interested into the water resitance of the wood, I'm pretty sure you can find a classifiaction of all woods propeties online or on carpentry books. Hope it helps you. See ya !!

    S'il te plait Geoffrey, peux tu publier la liste des pièces nécessaires pour la fabrication de ces volets et plus généralement pour l'ensemble de tes vidéos publier la listes des pièces utilisées pour chacun de tes projets. Je t'assure c'est un vrai plus pour ceux qui te suivent que de pouvoir reproduire ce que tu fais. Dans mon cas j'ai justement besoin de refaire tout mes volets alors t'imagine bien que ton expérience m'est très précieuse pour gagner du temps et qui sait de l'argent ! ;-)

    • @woodvibecreation
      @woodvibecreation  2 года назад

      Faire des vidéos est un travail assez fastidieux et un apprentissage constant. J'ai d'abord choisi d'essayer de sortir des vidéos propres et agréables à regarder. Mettre la liste des choses utilisées est quelque chose auquel j'ai deja pensé mais pour plus tard quand je serai plus rapide à produire des videos. Pour ces volets en particulier, rien de bien compliqué: des paquets de lames à volets avec rainures et languettes, des pentures à volets, des gonds à volets, des tourniquets marseillais, des butées à volets, des vis trcc, de la peinture, du scellement chimique avec des tamis pour insérer ton scellement et tes gonds. Pour fermer ton volet de l'intérieur il te faudra aussi une espagnolette, chose que je n'ai pas fait dans cette vidéo.

      @@woodvibecreation Au top Geoffrey comme d'habitude ! ;-) Je me doutais un peu de ta réponse vu le boulot que ça doit être que de réaliser un projet pour un client, filmer ce projet (seul la plupart du temps) avec des axes et des prises de vues différentes, vérifier à chaque fois que les prises de vues sont correctes, donc beaucoup de temps non employé pour ton vrai job, investir derrière sur du matériel pour fixer la caméra aussi, la batterie, le micro etc.. et je parle même pas des rushes et du montage ! Et tout ça gratuitement vu que pour le moment ta chaîne n'atteint pas le seuil minimum pour pouvoir te rémunérer régulièrement et suffisamment, ce qui est aussi un autre problème des nouveaux salariés du numérique. Bref je comprends totalement ton choix actuel et je te remercie doublement d'avoir pris le temps de me répondre ;-)
