Can confirm, these couple exercises he demonstrates have been part of my practice for about 6 months now and my coordination and freedom in comping have improved drastically. Basically every weird syncopated pattern can be found by just removing notes from these exercises
Someone asked him about that at his clinic in brisbane a few months ago. I think he said something along the lines of finding it funny that he always gets questions and complements about his posture because he'd never really worried about it.
Gracias y Saludos!
I think I got the 8th notes down pretty good. But the 8th note triple double strokes are the real challenge. Had to write out all the permutations of it with the ride pattern to see where it all lines up.
Is that really good though? People seem to be impressed with that, when really he is just showing them what to do; he is not making it musical ( on purpose) If that was impressive, maybe I should stop just playing in my basement
For me it is not a lesson- its fishing for compliments. He want demonstrate his fast drumming- nothing else. Hate to watch "lessons" like this. Thumbs down
His humility is obvious when he says that pretty much everything he does is based on those combinations. He broke it down to simple elements from which others can build their own ideas.
