    I use this amp together with Darkglass Alpha Omicron and I absolutely love it. It's gritty but still a great pedal platform, and it sits very well in the mix with two high-gain guitars. But it does have its own specific sound that can't be tweaked much. So if you're looking for something extremely versatile, this amp is definitely not for you.

    bruh that bass makes the AD200B sound so thin. Should of used a regular bass! I think your pick ups are way too hot on that kiesel bass.

    It is not recommended to use any tube amplifier if it does not have a speaker or cabinet connected to it. If there is no speaker or load, the wattage generated by a tube amp is lost. You will damage your amplifier and cause the tubes and transformer to blow if you do this.

    • @4headgaming448
      @4headgaming448 5 месяцев назад

      No, it's not even that it's not recommended, you *can't* run a tube amp without a load. Some amps have loads built in to protect it in case no speaker is connected, but you *will* destroy the output section of your amp if you don't give it a load.
      They're likely just using the output marked 'slave' to send a hot signal to the board while still connecting the amp to a speaker that isn't mic'd. Sadly, that is quite a disservice to this amp as the entire point of a high-wattage tube amp is to be run on stage with a real speaker.

    “Turning the Bass down on a Bass amp, who would do that” - the AD200 has a Fender-style tone circuit, i.e. Bass and Trebler are boost only, Mids are cut only. So to have it flat you’d have to turn both Bass and Treble all the way down, Mids all the way up. So, technically, you're not turning down the bass at all when going left of the Noon position, you're just not boosting it as much. Everything set at Noon, and you'll have a (slight) frequency bathtub. It's the same with the Terror Bass btw, but not the Little Bass Thing or the Bass Butler. Those dials boost/cut.

    • @jeffarburola
      @jeffarburola 4 года назад +9

      I actually had to contact orange to confirm based on this head (I own one) what the flat position is, and they replied stating that the appropriate position is having treble, mid and bass ALL the way up. That's how they were designed. If you turned all three of them down, you will get no sound out at all, that's why the actual flat position is to turn them all the way up.

      I figured there was a reason why the amp sounded so good with the bass turned down. It sounded a lot like some of the old bass tones i'd hear from Classic Rock bands growing up.

    Can Orange even disappoint? You really highlighted the charm of bass tube amps. I recently featured my rare Italian amp in a video, and it's 50 years old this year. It has been a part of my gear for 4 years, and the sound quality it delivers is simply outstanding. It works well with every instrument I've tried. Transistor amps are great too, but they'll never really be my soft spot. Your video underscores the fact that these amps are truly underappreciated. Keep making great content!

  • @MitchLamm93
    @MitchLamm93 5 лет назад +15

    On a passive amp, flat is not at noon for every knob. If I remember right, "flat" is bass and treble all the way down, and mid all the way up.

  • @danielphillipsmusic9145

    I've been running 3 tube amps lately. An 82 Bassman Ten (70Watt), the modern Bassman 100t, and the modern Super Bassman (300Watt). One thing I like about the modern Fenders is there's a vintage circuit. (they replaced the second channel (normal/bright) with a modern stack, with dual mid controls and gain, but I never use it) On both the Bassman Ten and 100t if I want some gain I just dig in. I don't use the 300watt Super for anything but outdoor shows where I want pure, big ass clean P bass tone. I really liked the idea of this head when I first saw it. (I'd say 4 6550s at 200watts is probably the closest you could get to a "one size fits all" head) Honestly, I'd have just pulled the gain out. Just run a line volume/master volume and three tone passive stack. Passive and Padded inputs with an XLR out.

    I came here because I just read online that Geddy Lee uses this bass amp head.
    For the price I saw it selling for online, one pretty much has to be in a band like Rush in order to afford it. It looks like it's going to be solid state pre and post amps for poor me. 😕

    I see a lot of comments saying that it sounds thin. I'm not gonna say the opposite, but rather explain why. He's using the DI out, which I think has built in cabsim, but is far from sounding like an IR. Therefore it's almost like playing the amp without a cab. Hope this helped

      This is a horrible ex because of the bass he's using and or possibly the settings. He may like a thin trebly sound usually associated with a J bass for slapping. For ballsy rock I actually prefer the Orange to an SVT because it has both more low end (even though you don't here it in this vid) and more gain; especially at low volume. But both the SVT and Fender SB are more powerful and better for the price.
