It's only 500w @ 4ohm. with one 8ohm cab it's 250w. Stick another 8ohm cab under it and run the head a 4ohm and then you get 500w and be plenty loud enough for most gig situations
Hey, agree with Aedan 100%. I just added a second OBC112. It's added a bit more volume but somehow it just seems to sound better and has filled out the sound overall. On the plus side, the sound guy loved what he got from the DI at our gig last saturday. i'm a very happy bunny I'm telling you...
Great review! Any thoughts on the midrange character of this head? I'm hearing some people are disappointed with due to a "baked-in" mid scoop. I'm wondering how many users are just unaware of how to operate the passive, fender-like tone stack. If you set those controls all at 12 noon, then yeah, the tone might be easily scooped. Anythoughts?
Most metal bassists aren't going to be using a single 1x12 cab. Put this head through a 6x10 or an 8x10 and I guarantee is going to be loud enough for any venue you ever play.
I actually prefer moving my ampeg 8x10 over 4x10/1x15s. Much less lifting, slide it out of the back of the van, kick it back on the dolly wheels and most places with higher stages have ramps to wheel it up too. Look at any touring metal band, 9 times out of 10 there will be an ampeg 8x10 in the backline.
Definitely, I've been playing out with my Ampeg V-4B 100W tube head recently and with the gain at 1-2 I never turn the volume up past 4. Having more speaker volume is going to give you way more volume than head wattage. Doesn't matter how much wattage he's pumping into that little 1x12, It probably isn't going to be enough stage volume for a live metal band. That being said, I definitely wanna pick up one of these bass terrors as an alternative to my Ampeg, or go full doom and run them in stereo lol
Today id gotten to use my new terror bass amp with my new ampeg 610. Fender Steve Harris bass brand new as well.. All I can say is wow. This thing is fuckin. Loud and sounds great... My previous amp was ampeg svt 7 pro darkglass b7k and dbx231 ... This thing is a good replacement.

The lick :D it’s everywhere!
Been touring with the old one for 4 years as my number one. One of the sickest amps around. This new one looks awesome.
Awesome demo. \m/ it’s sounds killer with that bass.

Got the old 1000 watt version and in a metal band I’m always getting told to turn down heheh

Alex Huddleston Those are some gigantic cabs. I would absolutely hate touring with them

Our bassist uses a 500W Carvin head with an 8x10 and plays at about 2-3 stage volume so as not to ruin FoH mix. 500W is plenty of power.
