Between the parametric mid, compression and single volume control, Little Bass Thing strongly reminds me of everything I loved about my 1969 Blueline SVT. Minus the weight and tube costs. Love how this guy sounds.
Orange bass amp with no distortion?! Yeah that’s a hard pass. Just get an Ampeg pf800 you can adjust the compression to your liking, use that gain to get a warmer tube like tone a far better eq controls, more watts and same price.
@@bassfacekillah It's been awesome. You can go very sterile and clean, and it gets almost tube like, with the compressor cranked. It also takes pedals well.
I tried it a week ago or so through a hartke 2x10" cab and the combination sounds awesome. Used a Ibanez sr505, ESP LTD b205, squier affinity pj, and a Cort bass that I don't know the name of. I'm actually still not sure which amp to get, but I'm sure I'm getting the hartke hidrive cab under it.
I think orange makes nice products but they are very expensive for what you get. That being said I am very surprised this is actually CHEAPER than the ob1 so It might be worth checking out especially if you want a more compact rig! Definitely a step in the right direction for orange!
I sold my Terror bass to go back to a Darkglass Microtubes 500. I would not sell the Darkglass for this, but I might have bought this if say darkglass didn't exist.
Hi Gregor, how would you describe this amps native voicing? is it a typical flat modern class-d or does it have its own voicing/colour like the terror bass? compressor aside, how would you compare it too the terror soundwise?
If this had the distortion built in like the OB1-500 i was using and kept the $700 price tag i would buy it today. but for $700 i can get the darkglass microtubes 500 head which offers a lot more. I also have a tech 21 VT500 which is a killer head with distortion and bells and whistles and it was only $500 new. Heck you can get the new peavey minimax 600 watt head for $400 which is really great. Orange not being very competitive.
Decisions decisions, which one should I get, the Terror bass head or the Little Bass Thing? I would imagine both are fantastic and both do different things. The LBT probably is more modern sounding and has a better eq where as the Terror is kind of an old school sound with less eq options. Again, which one? lol
Glad to see it is possible to own a good orange bass amp at a lower price, now if they could work on getting the price on those 8x10 cabs down in price cause man $2,200 for the 8x10 is to high.
Great job reviewing the Lttle Bass Thing. Just out of curiosity, what string are you running on the jazz bass? Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work!
Sounds great Gregor! I was thinking the same thing about the compression giving it a tube-like tone. I do have an off-topic question: what are your thoughts on the Ashdown ABM 2x10 cabinet? I currently have the ABM 500 Evo III and I am considering getting a couple 2x10 cabinets to go with it.

yes compresion like it ;.;.about time they got on the buss ;.Ampeg , Hartke , many more Bass have Compression , some work better than others , like Peavy mini mega Compression doesnt work so well at least the one i had .
Honestly, I'm not very impressed by this "Little bass thing". IMO compression should be used very carefully. From my experience as a bass player in very different music genres you can easily make the whole band sound muddy and dull by using the wrong type or amount of compression. On the other hand a good compressor can really help to tighten up your bass sound and 'clean up' the whole band sound. But to make this work, it's essential to have control over the basic parameters of compression: at least RATIO and THRESHOLD. I'm using an EMPRESS compressor pedal that has all the typical control options of a quality studio compressor (ratio, input-/output gain (threshold), attack, release) plus a mix knob to dial in your dry signal if needed. Takes a little time to get used to it but you can create almost any type of compression you need in real studio quality. I really recommend trying that small blue box because you can create a very unique crystal clear kind of sparkling tone with lots of harmonics with it that other compressors don't deliver. And the character of your instrument always stays alive, even with more extreme settings. Recently I bought a little TC Thrust 500 head I use for amplification now because I was tired of carrying around my heavy tube amps. Forget about that built in "Thrust" Compressor, it's crap. But the amp is very impressive: lots of headroom, clean but warm sound, really good EQ section and all of that for under 200€.
Bones While I appreciate your 'text book' explanation of compression... In the real world it doesn't mean anything... One of my amps has a built in, single control compressor, it sounds amazing & when used carefully, it can be an 'effect' as well as actually compressing. Stage levels are quite different to studio levels & as such...the compressor 'textbook' methods are out the window... Just control your bass output carefully & forget what you read about compressors..because when you start getting technical about your sound, you'll more than likely ruin it by trying to 'go by the book'.
@@robertrosejr1 you can have the blend all the way down and you have a really nice clean tone, but it's already got a slight amount of balls built in if you pick hard enough.
Fender owns the Sunn name, they used it to make guitars and amps for a while. From what I can gather, these instruments where basically Squires in terms of quality
