Another important "plus" that phone reviewers never seem to mention is that the A23 5G has a water resistance rating of IPX7 (according to PhoneScoop), which means that it survives 30 minutes immersed in shallow water. This is another big plus that you get for the $50 extra you pay beyond the A13 5G. Strange that nobody thinks about this until he drops it in the drink; all the other wonderful features don't matter after you've drowned your phone.

Where do you get this info? Because nowhere on the packaging does it say it has ingress protection. I would know, because I own it and I have had water damage from just riding in the rain, and have had to replace the screen.

I have had four Galaxies. I have dropped three into water (so not put an A71 5g in the washing machine, it does not do well if you do that) so I bought this.

    PROS 👍🏻
    _battery life (5000 mAh battery)
    _customizable (One UI 4.1)
    _Android 12 (it'll get Android OS 13)
    _main camera (good photos)
_price (unless you can find a used A52 5G for cheap - that's hard)
    _headphone jack (I prefer wired)
_good glass screen (there's worse glass used on higher priced devices)
    _NFC (it's valid now)
_fingerprint sensor (side on top of power button works better then on screen)
    CONS (nitpicking - lol!)
_64 Gigs ROM (it should have 128 Gigs)
_ambient and proximity sensors (needs software update)
    _screen bezels / tear drop notch (c'mon it's 2022!)
_slow charging (known issue talked in forums, maybe it's the wall charger Samsung recommends?)
_front camera is meh (it is on a lot of devices this year!)
_ultrawide and macro is poor pictures
    (but hey it's a $200 phone - not a $400 phone!)
Solid budget device, I have to agree with you though that budget shouldn't mean certain styles should be used every year (a phone can be cheap and look great vs looks like a cheap phone!)

Mine is need of a new screen which I may get replaced because I'm THAT disappointed in this phone. I've used Samsung before and this is lacking in things my older Galaxy Lite has. Instead of taking the phone to get fixed I ordered another Motorola and am satisfied with it.

I just bought this phone and I've been liking it so far. However, I just paid $380 which to me is not cheap. As long as it does well and what I need it for that's what's important. I only wish I could have got it back when it was much less costly. For now I'm happy with it.

The cons are very minimal, they are more nitpicking than cons, this is a $200 device that packs a lot (I already posted a common thread you will see in forums regarding, "well these devices are better than this smartphone", but the devices in question or not available in North America so is it really competition if you can't hold both devices in your hand and compare?)
Samsung Galaxy A23 5G for the win 👍🏻

It's a much better performing then the a53 5g. It's kinda like the oneplus n20 that is also on the same ship like 23 5g and it runs fast. The 23 5G might be the best bang for ur buck in that price class.

I have this A23 5G as primary phone and this my opinion. (I have 4/128 GB variant)
    • Phone is nice to hold, not too big and heavy
    • Design is fine for the price
    • Super display even if is TFT. Good contrast, crispiness and touch response time. 120Hz is good and Gorilla Glass 5 is a pleasure to use thanks to his smoothness.
    • Processor is very good, with 695 you can easily do whatever you want with the phone, even some hard gaming and it will not disappoint. Actually the OneUI is very well optimized for this phone.
    • Camera is actually far from good and macro is like a 10 cent sensor.
    • Battery is really nice, managed to stands for 2 days and 10 hours SOT locked at 60Hz, while 7 Hours at 120Hz. I
    WHAT I DON'T LIKE
    • 4G/5G signal is often really poor and I don't know why.
    • Light sensor is slow and inaccurate (I turned it off)
    • Vibration is a bit weak
Other than that, I paid 240€ for it and it's a really budget device, it is solid and will receive Android 13 and 14. If you prefer stock Android and OLED, go for Motorola G71/82 because they are really nice too.

Just bought this phone, I don’t care about social media, gaming and big specs in a phone etc but I do watch videos and listen to music, emails and just use it for daily stuff. You have to consider price when you weigh pros and cons. The storage isn’t a big deal because of the sd card expansion. The design doesn’t bother me the same way the water drop notch doesn’t bother me either. Or the bezels as much more expensive phones have bezels. I honestly think people complain too much other insignificant things that don’t affect performance or getting a mostly full screen. Apple has a much more unattractive notch. The iPhone XR and 11 are two I can think of with thicker bezels too. The dual speakers I will say is the biggest con you listed I truly see as a con. Because in 2022, dual speakers should be standard. Not sure if you mentioned it, but does this have an IP rating? If not that’s definitely a con too. Overall, when you consider the $300 price tag, you get quite a bit for that amount. Even if it’s missing a few things, several phones in this price range are missing more.

    • @donotneed2250
      @donotneed2250 Год назад

I agree about the IP rating. My last LG phone has an IP rating of 68 and cost about 2/3 of what this phone cost. This phone also does not have homescreen looping and FM Radio like the older Samsungs do.

I've owned this Samsung model for About a month now and do far it's held up quite well, however I noticed that the flash when using the camera completely washes out my photos leaving them pretty undesirable. And the storage.. it really didn't take me long to reach close to 55GB of internal storage and that's with using an SD card. A lot of apps are not movable to the sd card regardless of your developer settings and such. I think it's about time they do away with the sd cards myself given this fact. Otherwise they're great. The teardrop notch, like you said needs to go. It has a cheap look. Period. Lol. I'm curious though as to some of the higher end Samsung models and what they have to offer. I miss the peace of mind of not having to worry, at all about my internal storage.

    • @donotneed2250
      @donotneed2250 Год назад

You do know that you can back the phone up to your Micro SD Card, right? Do a factory reset and then reinstall your apps back onto the phone a lot faster than doing it over-the-air or Wi-Fi. Micro SD Card is where I store my pictures and what not. When I change phones I just remove and insert into the new one and everything is there. Takes less than a minute. Started doing it with LG phones and so far that's my favorite Samsung feature. I've used Motorola, HTC, Umidigi and they won't do it.

I think for the price point. You get a lot of good stuff with that phone. Samsung makes great screens. And the screen is something we spend a lot of time looking at. 120 Hertz refresh rate, gotta love that! And cpu is pretty damn good! As for the flaws. They make sense to me. The reason that I would not pay £289 for the A23 5G is that I recently bought a higher spec new A53 5G from Amazon on Prime day for £249 and could have bought a new A52 5G for £200 on the previous Prime day. Samsung have large stocks of unsold A series phones which will feature highly in Black Friday sales.
The basic problem with the A series is that you can buy Chinese phones with faster processors for the same prices as A series phones. Personally, I will not be buying any more Chinese phones due to a complete lack of security updates.

Truth - there's 5G competition from Redmi and Xiaomi Poco with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 (not the Xiaomi Poco from India with the MediaTek) at a close price range .... except you will never see these devices in the North American Store, or available at a North American Carrier (so my opinion is you can't call it competition if you can't hold both in your hands inside Best Buy to compare).
I can say the Samsung Galaxy A23 5G is solid when it's the 6 Gigs RAM 128 Gigs ROM Variant sold online (and I think we can both agree that this should be the Variant that's also available with Carriers).

I need to be able to use my phone, it's no good to me if I can't be heard or hear. The last 5 Samsung phones I've had through BOOST have been wonderful. This phone however, has been nothing but trouble and it wasn't exactly cheap. I've gone into the store for help several times and still nothings been done to help with this issue. 9:38 vs 10:07 I am not sure I would like more a hole punch than a teardrop for front camera, to me a teardrop looks more aesthetically pleasind than a drilled like hole in the middle of the screen... then there are some models that have no visible hole as the camera is hidden behind the display matrix for cost for a bit bluier image I guess.

I will dare to say however, I believe my Motorola One 5g phone with the Mediatek Processor was much snappier and on point than the Snapdragon in this phone. Is it just me? NO FM Radio.
    NO home screen looping.
ONLY brand I've used that tries to make you create a user account on their website.🤦🏽‍♂️
A bunch of bells & whistles I don't have a use for or need.

I just recently switched to T-Mobile 2 weeks ago, and the bonus was that,I was going to buy a new phone as my A12 is 3g/LTE. Turns out right now T-Mobile offered me the A23 5g OR the A32 5G for free. I am sure there are more. I picked the A32 but they were out of stock.

Just bought this phone at AT&T store Jan. 2023. Nice phone but I have much to figure out 1) stopping screen from going black during phone calls, and 2) how to add signature line to my text messages. All the online help videos refer to "3 dot menu" at top of message ap but there is no 3 dot menu on message ap. Text settings does not list signature option. If ANYONE can help I would really appreciate it. The phone is used heavily for non profit work (SPCA). Phone is not for entertainment.

Using Samsung's Messages app? Try the google one instead. I tried the Samsung one and didn't care for it much. Years ago Samsung's stock apps were better than the google ones but not now. Kind of role reversal...

    • @PJ-gm1hb

I've used both phones, the a53 is technically better but the general performance on the a23 5g is smoother because of the exynos chip in the a53. The a53 has a little lag and stutter in normal usage that the a23 5g doesn't have.

TEAR DROP NOTCH IS GARBAGE, I ordered this phone a23 bc my a51 is a pile of junk. The review sounds good like it will be better than a51. Why is Samsung so cheap no charger with phone. I will put the SD card in at my expense, but no 24 watt charger & where can I get a real Samsung 24 watt charger that's not a fake like on Amazon? Samsung phones eat phone cords & it's difficult to buy a good phone cord online.
