It is a fantasy, in the book they hate each other since they met. They didn’t grew up together. When Alison married she was 17 or 18 years and Rhaenyra was a child. They never love each other. They were never friends. In the series they make them same age for dramatic purposes. They weren’t homosexual even. The author portrait them as heterosexual. So no even friendship or romantic relation in the books. 😅
