I wish i had found rhis video sooner. On DEC 27th 2014 i came to San Antonio to visit a friend and attempted to make this jelly having no knowledge or experience making ANY jams or jellies. I never got mine to firm up. Ill deff try next year with this recipe. Thanks!
Oh my gosh that looks so good! I've never had access to prickly pears so I've never thought about using them for jelly. I'd sure love to! Thanks for sharing.
philais Thanks.. It sounds good.. The pectin surprised me.. My usual mead with Apple juice, clover or violets.. I like trying other flavors as well.. My next try will be black walnut..
I have never made jelly made syrup didn't have enough juice once so I bought a couple of bottles of Knudsens Pomegranate juice and added it with some lime juice and honey..It was pricey but very tasty..
wow i just love your videos and love that your in my area i live in bexar too! i have never canned before but i have always wanted to so now i think i'm gonna try it! thanks for sharing!
Don't know about Prickly Pear, but I use the pulp from other fruits to make wine. Toss the pulp in a fermenting container. Cover with boiling sugar water. The next day add yeast, install a fermentation trap and wait a couple of weeks till the fermentation quits.
Great video! I am going to pick some prickly pears and try it. I was thrilled to see you use the juicer, so that's what I will do. How long do you soak them? You mentioned that you use the pulp sometimes. Does it matter if the skins are in there, or do you peel first? How do you use the pulp, can you make jam with it? Sorry for so many questions.
I still have a few gallons of prickly pear juice in the freezer from last year. when I pick them I use a blow torch lightly on the outside to get the needles and those tiny needles that stick so badly, they burn off in seconds we have a bumper crop lately and I'm going out to get more. this year
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I had heard of prickly pears but had never seen any. I don't know if they grow here in Alabama or not. Would love to try some.
+Tammy Butler In moister climates they are rare but ask around the rural areas.. We have a few here in Kentucky but I've never seen enough fruits to amount to anything..
how long do you soak them to get the spines out? i don't have a lot of prickly pear... but if i ever do i know what to do with them! looking forward to the jar review... i use tongs for my tattlers too... :-) tkx for all the info bexar...
I just love your videos and information. Thank you !!! Another favorite of mine is Perbain. I'm getting concerned because she hasn't been on here for almost a year. Do you know if she is ok or if her channel has moved ??
I was in contact with a friend of her's and she said Perbain just got burnt out. I'm guessing from rude nasty posters. Perbain is OK but not sure if she's ever going to come back.
I've never seen it spelled that way before. But then again, I'm over in the UK with our weird variation of English. I'm not a prepper or anything, just a city guy but I'm so fascinated with your videos (and the other preppers too!).

I miss prickly pear jelly. I lived in Az and made it. Now I live elsewhere and no prickly pears :^(
like that there is not five pounds of sugar in this will definitely try. Also is it Bexar as in TX? My grandfather was from there.

REally looking forward to your interview with the Orchard Canning owner. He is super responsive to emails and I have ordered some lids as well.

They're called glochids....nasty buggers!
Bexar, did you remove the stickers at some point? As fine as they are I'd be afraid they would slip through and get in the juice.
Stains I found it quite the opposite .I was surprised that it didn't

Toughest part cleaning prickles off and fighting off Rattlers in cactus
Maybe I missed it... how do you get those stupid spines off of them? I gave up on this project quick last year, lol

I soaked them for several hours and most of the spines were off. Blessings
+skybirdbird I swished them in about 4 changes of water for one it cleaned them up..
yea i would absolutely love to get either the fruit or the juice up here in Washington but they dont sell them as far as i can tell.
can you make this without sugar and used? like honey or agave nectar or whole sugar juice?
Hey do you ever pickle the pads and make napolitas? I really love prickly pear jelly.
I have never heard of prickly pears! Ugh I have lots to learn!! What do they taste like?
Could you show how the spines come off?
"not man handle but women handle" oh Bexar you're too much

healthy nice pear
How can you tell the tattler kids have sealed?
How are you pronouncing Bexar? Is it like 'bear' prepper?
That is correct.
I've never seen it spelled that way before. But then again, I'm over in the UK with our weird variation of English. I'm not a prepper or anything, just a city guy but I'm so fascinated with your videos (and the other preppers too!).
Bexar is a county in the Republic of Texas.
+Lee Vuitton (IRCXDS)
You can become a prepper.. It's easy and you never know what might happen..
@@IRCXDS How crazy to call the 'UK version' of English a weird variation. THAT's the weirdest thing I've heard all day.
