  • Methuselah just might be the oldest fish in a zoological setting on Earth. Known as the Australian or Queensland lungfish, it’s 4-feet long and one of only six living species of air-breathing lungfish. Methuselah came to San Francisco on a steamship from Australia back in 1938. Since then, it has been kept at Steinhart Aquarium, which is one of the most biologically diverse and interactive aquariums in the world. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer explains.

I think a big reason it looks so old comes down to the thickness of the scales. This animal has lungs and gills - it was likely evolving into a lizard with thick scales to deal with heat, but ended up having an aquatic advantage.
Otherwise fish just change colors. For instance, I have a gourami. They're estimated to live 5 years. Since I've gotten him, he's changed colors and began to have 2 of his 3 spots fade. Old fish just lose color, like our hair.
This beast is ready to climb on land though with those scales.
