Just did a 1000 mile road trip with the Ridgeline. It drives like a BMW. Fantastic vehicle. It’s a modern SUV with a bed, not a truck, but that’s precisely what makes it better than a truck for 90% of what you’re actually going to use it for.
Moved my family to Bradley County almost a year ago and right away on our outdoor trips, the trash was just astounding. It's so sad and disappointing. This area is a paradise and people treat it that way. Good on you for picking up after others. We do the same, although it seems futile. Enjoying seeing other perspectives of the area, thanks!
It’s beyond frustrating! And I completely agree, some days it feels completely futile. Every time we come back to the same spot it’s just covered in trash again. But if we don’t do it the areas we have access to will eventually get closed. So thanks for helping keep this area beautiful!

We Just released a new video yesterday of a full walkaround of the Ridgeline. It’s got a lots of cool upgrades. It’s definitely not as spunky as your Subaru, but it’s a ton of fun drive him really comfortable

I've hit some pretty good dirt roads and in the rain with my 2018 Ridgeline. Then, some snow during a snow storm without chains on roads and well maintained dirt roads to a cabin area. With chains, no problem in snow and ice. Just not an offroad vehicle but great for LA traffic and weekend getaways. Filled the bed with gear and added a hitch gear rack. Drives even smoother than without gear. Key feature: it's unibody. Bed is part of the body and basically a truck version of the Honda Pilot so it rides like a dream.
Digging the Honda guy, I'm all about making the Uncapable capable lol. Yes skid plates are a must . I had to make my own for the engine/transaxle and rear differential.
As long as you're not crawling boulders, the Ridgeline is the perfect truck to live with. If you want to crawl, tow a side-by-side behind the Ridgeline for the ultimate crawling experience.
Thanks for cleaning up. I've paddled the Hiwassee a lot, and done a few 4WD/ motorcycle runs in the area. Never found that structure though. Something for me to look for, post Covid.
I’m glad you’re enjoying them! They definitely each have their place. The Ridgeline gets better fuel mileage and is probably more comfortable on the road. Nate has a couple of munchkins and there’s more room for them in the backseat than in my Tacoma. But my Tacoma allows my wife and I to take on harder trails. So it really depends on your use case.
Hi. I’ve Watch a few of y’all’s videos and they’ve been very informative regarding my decision to buy a ridgeline 2020. I’m interested in seeing some of Nate’s up grades on his as far as racks, skid plates, tent (back or roof), lift etc. I decided on a Ridgeline because of the space for rear passengers (3 kids), trunk and music in the back, hangout with the fam at the beach quite a bit and the daily driver car feel. Hour commute to work so want a smooth ride. Thnx for the vids keep them coming.
Nice! The Element was a great platform! Always love to see other unique rigs out and about. Have you seen the Ursa Minor tents for the Element? I always thought those were so cool.
I have- they are great. You see them around occasionally. Nice to have a hard shell and rack on top. But I wanted a little more room, and preferred ladder access rather than through the inside, so I went with a 23Zero. I love it.
Will be selling my Element in about a year. Torn, I really like the ridgeline but the family wants a larger tt. The Element has been a fantastic vehicle the past 120k miles.
@@ScenicCityAdventures yes, I do like the grill more than the original, but the original was growing on me. I don’t like the wide flares on the new one. More than likely I’ll end up with a Tundra or F150, but I’ll always be a Honda guy. Will still have a Pilot for awhile.
Actually, 32" is the largest tire size for a Ridgeline. But it needs to be a 255/70R18 (32"x10") with a 2" lift front and rear. I like the Falken Wildpeak tire, myself. If you go to a 265/65R18, the tire is 31.5", but the wider 265 causes rubbing issues.
Andrew, that's what I went with and I love the tires but I do have rubbing full lock pulling in and backing out. I thought it may have been the 1" spacers causing it. I have the 1.5" Truxxx kit in the front. I may drop to that 255 next time. Thanks.
Unfortunately though a fun vehicle, Nate has traded the Honda for an F150 to be able to explore more places. He found the Honda just couldn’t keep up on the more technical trails due to a lack of ground clearance and restricted tire size.

Can anyone help me out? Im pretty new to overlanding, I typically just take my ranger out, pack a tent and a lil bit of gear, find a nice spot, camp up, then in the morning go find new spots, those tents you have in the bed, like in your Toyota, are those fairly easy/quick to take off, I use my truck bed quite often so I would like the ability to take it off with little to no problem whenever I need
Absolutely! So the roof top tents are neat but completely unnecessary. The one that use to be in my truck was pretty easy to remove, only four bolts and it’s out. But then you are left with a rack with no tent. The GFC is a little harder to remove. It has seals around the bed that have to line up exactly, 12v wiring, and is a lot heavier. There is nothing wrong with a ground tent. In fact, if you are staying somewhere more than one day it’s preferred because you don’t have to pack the tent up if you want to head out and explore, you can just leave the tent and come back to it. I’d say just roll with what you have for now. We hammock camped for years before getting the RTT and really only got it because we found such a good deal on it. Their only advantage is it’s off the ground if it rains, and you don’t have to try and find a level spot for a ground tent. That being said you do have to level the truck to use the tent.

Ridgeline is the best all around vehicle with a bed! New ones are ugly though. Call it what you will but it is a better built more refined and thought through vehicle than my new Toyota. The only thing it lacks is 5000lb+ towing, low speed transfer case and aftermarket support. Who made the skids? I’ve seen up to 33” on 1st gen Ridgeline.
The biggest problem we had was the lack of wheel travel, and overheating transmissions up at a windrock. All in all they really did pretty good. J-sport makes a ton of good parts including skidplates. Nate's now has skids, bed rack, roof rack, awning, and RTT. It's setup really nice now!
ScenicCity Overland thanks for the feedback! Didn’t know they had hot transmissions. I just got a 2020 Tundra despite the huge controversy over Toyota removing the transmission coolers in the 19-21 models. It’ll be a while before I take the Tundra on trails to test that out. In the meantime it’s pulling a small travel trailer to push the temps.
ScenicCity Overland I have a lifetime drivetrain warranty so I’m only moderately worried. It still has what they call a warmer/heat exchanger. But I may have not bought it if not for the warranty. I mostly needed it for the towing capacity...have my 4th gen 4Runner for the trails. That transmission has never overheated :-)
I think he mentioned they were 31'. TPMS is for the rims and not the tires. If you decide to buy your own set of rims, you can buy those TPMS sensors and the tire companies can install them for you. It's extremely easy.
Nate hasn’t had any problems with his transmission overheating, but some of the other Ridgelines have. Tho the articulation isn’t huge, it’s been able to keep up with my Tacoma over most trails.
Beautiful area. I prefer my Tacoma. With the covid, more people are going out of the cities and they don't know how to act or what they should do when they are out. Went camping and the city dwellers partied loudly til 4 am. No respect for anyone
The trash thing unfortunately from the kids, not always however in or mountains when we head out I am always trying to get them to see the ridiculous and irresponsible part to littering.
It actually has as much or more payload than all midsizes and many half tons. It's also the only midsize to fit a sheet of plywood between the wheel wells. It's frankly perfectly sufficient for 95%+ of hunting roads. In an Edmunds test in Death Valley on washboard roads, it's suspension did better than a Tacoma and Titan with off road packages. The main issue is lack of a fullsize spare, and certainly couldn't hurt to have another inch or two of clearance.

I don’t off hand, but if you head towards Lost Creek Recreational Area, and explore the trails past it, you’ll find as well as some other fun things.
