Reason I bought my ridge is I needed many things a truck can do but I’m not a truck guy. I tow a 3000 lb trailer and the bed is always full. It’s perfect for what I do and it drives like my wife’s Camry. Plus it’s the most American made truck you can buy. Ram is made in Mexico, Silverado is mexico, USA and Canada. Honda is over 80 % American components and built in Alabama. Yea, net profit goes to Japan but 35000 Honda employees are in USA including all the factory workers.
Patrick Davies great truck but it’s a traditional truck and drives like it. I don’t need or want that. That’s why I have the Ridgeline. Does what I need and want with a nice smooth ride. I like and. I never need 4wd
@@johnlepkowski3831 you're not a truck guy but you still bought a truck, period. Ride or handling and capacity has nothing to do with it being a truck.
Living in northern Canada with snow and ice on the road for 6 months a year, SHAWD is more valuable than off-road capabillity. 4x4 trucks just dont work well on patchy icy roads.
Agreed, I live in northern Wisconsin and pointed out to a naysayers that their 4wd is only helpful after their rwd puts them in the ditch. The awd, with the right tires, will keep you from meeting the ditch.
Paul Cherbini this is the people’s truck despite what people think. I can’t tell you how many trucks I see every day not being used as trucks, meanwhile these things will get it all done but people don’t want to drive it because it’s a “women’s truck” the only thing it can’t do is tow a great deal, everything else is no problem.
This video just sold me on this truck. It can do a ton of other stuff in the other videos I've watched and it can churn up some mud on a trail, something I'll probably never do...but if I have to it can handle a bit of back country, not obviously a swamping truck but a logging road or a camping area with some holes and stuff. Cool

I love my Honda truck, almost two years into it. Best truck, I have ever owned.
I got my new Honda Ridgline 2019 Sport at the begining of May and I'm just in love with it. It's so comfortable and the drive is amazing. I just love it!
Has everything I would need. I tow my Miata on a light open wheel trailer (about 3000lbs), like to have the weather assurance and capability if needed for light trail duty, and use my current Tacoma as a daily. Hopefully Honda continues with this philosophy for another generation or two so that when I'm able to comfortably afford something like this, it'll still be available.
Developing a new truck costs a lot. Honda used most of Pilot's design to save cost. Without Pilot, we may not have the G2. I like the design and I own both the new Pilot and new Ridgeline.
Yes, the previous model had the front end perfectly. It had that chiseled truck look. This new front end turned me off this vehicle completely. It looks like a minivan.
Love my '18 RTL.....fun as hell....tons of rear legroom for the extended family, great daily commuter, but can haul 3 dirtbikes to anywhere I want to go.
I love my 2017 RTL. It's amazing in the snow, towing, day to day, long trips and fantastic fuel economy. And it looks great, not like a block of wood that every other truck out there looks like. I love my Ridge!
There is nothing in it's class to compare it to? Name another uni body truck sold in America? this is a good truck per say for people that don't really use their truck as a truck and more of a car, but if your towing and using a truck as a TRUCK i would pass on this truck. But for most this will do what most people need from a "truck".
I drive my RTL-E over 1000 miles a month, including regular road trips from Seattle to southern California. Most trucks are not great "road trip" rides, but this one rides smoother and quieter than any other vehicle I own.
I’m a 68 year old woman. I have a 2010. Ridgeline I bought used. In perfect condition. It has the old body style. Which I love. The original owner put all the bells and whistles on it. Side bar railings, sun roof, heated seats, luggage rack, weather tec accessories, and a killer stereo system. Fit for any tailgate party. The color is mocha with metal flake paint. It drives like a dream. Only issue is peripheral vision. Blind spots. Took the head rest off of the back seats and it took care of that however the height of the 🚘 car makes it difficult to see smaller cars when you back up. I would love new one but they cost so much. And this one should last for years with all the proper maintenance. Oh, and everyone tells me it’s a car, not a truck.
I'm continually surprised at how capable my 2006 is off road - yes, there are some limits due to the stiff swaybars (you can easily end up on 3 wheels in really lumpy stuff) and a couple more inches of ground clearance would be nice (but since I do 95% of my driving on the road, I'm not lifting it) - but to have a truck that will do what it does off road, and yet drive like a quick, competent car on the road is great. And since I don't put more than 1200 lbs in the bed of my Ridgeline (but I do it fairly often hauling machinery all over Florida) or tow more than around 4500, it's great. And the ride is sublime.
That rocked! Mud fling was awesome, as was the orange dinosaur alongside the course. One of the best reviewers out there, and a Honda rep who knows & digs what they do. Great job, gents. :)
Love my Ridge. It's just a great all around vehicle. So glad I went with a new AWD RTL-E instead of the used Subaru Baja I was considering for the reasons mentioned in the video (space / towing capability).
Had a 2018, now have a 2020 I love it so much. Dirt roads, dirt roads in the rain, muddy inclines, and a snow storm in 6-10" of fresh snow is nothing in a stock Ridgeline. Got stuck on a patch of ice on a slight incline because I had to stop to wait for another vehicle to get pulled out and got stuck. Haven't tried sand but flawless in LA traffic and severe rain on the freeways at speed.
All commenters butt hurt over saying this tows more than a Colorado. If you are thinking of towing 7000lbs with a Colorado or a Tacoma you seriously should be getting your head examined. My Tacoma doesn't have enough power to tow my 3000lb boat. I would never tow more than 5000lbs with it. I'd never get out of first gear. The big thing this truck has that NONE of the others in this class has, is a bed capable of hauling a sheet of plywood.
S Patoine hailing a sheet of plywood? Hanging a foot past the tailgate! Oh an I have towed a 6,000 lbs boat for my brother a few times with my Colorado z71,4x4,V6 Ext Cab with ease! Plus tow my 4,000 lbs travel trailer with my Sportster in the bed! That’s just over 10,000 CGVW in a Cat Scale! On a 4,000 mile trip a year or so ago.
Can't speak for the Colorado. I can say the Tacoma can't haul squat, is gutless, and sucks fuel like a 1980 Chevy 1/2 ton. I had to put airbags in the back so I could haul a decent load.
The newer Canyon/Colorado with the diesel engine can do that. Plus, they are NOT the size of the old S-10 or older Canyon/Colorado. Their frames are a lot beefier
K. R. V. If you really towed 10,000lbs with a Colorado, you sir are crazy. I'm not questioning the trucks ability to pull it, I question the ability to safely control that weight with your truck at highway speeds.
Well it looks like a van that got cut up and customized to look like a truck. But for honda sake i will give it a try, i got a short wife problem so i guess this will make her complain less.
I drive one. I agree it could look more aggressive, but its shorter front side makes parking so much easier. You can really pull up without worrying about your tail end sticking too far out into a lot.
Most of the comments here are about the styling of the truck or weather or not it's even a "real truck". Everyone is entitled to their opinion when it comes to looks. Personally, I don't like blonds, but a lot of men date and marry blonds. I think they look fake and bimbo-ish, learning at a young age that looks are everything, and trying to skirt through the rest of their life on their looks. That is why my long time girlfriend is a brunette. My preference. I personally don't like the looks of the Chevy twins or the outdated Nissan. I like the fact that the Ridgeline has a sloped front end. It allows me to see more of what is in front of the vehicle. Yes, this "truck" is a uni-body construction and has 7.9" of clearance, the lowest in its class. The Chevy Colorado has 1/2" more, Tacoma only has 1-1/2" more than the Ridge. Think about that, 1-1/2" is a small stone. I laugh at guys that jack their trucks up with body lifts to give it that "manly truck" look, only to see that their rear diff is still at 9.4" off the pavement. I laugh even harder at the posers who do this on their trucks that have the badging that says, "Pre-Runner". This is coming from a guy who has had 4 Toyota trucks, back to back, purchased brand new, since 1982, and when it came time to replace my 2000 Tundra, went to purchase a very capable 2018 Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off-Road model. After test driving it and the Ridgeline, it was a no brainer for me on which to get. Back to preference... This may or may not be the truck for you, but for the people who do decide to buy it, it fills their needs. Quite well in fact. I love my 2018 RTL-E. Quiet, smooth ride, great handling, great acceleration, great breaking (4 wheel disk), ton of safety features, average 22.3 mpg (low of 19.2 pulling trailer up the incline to Lake Tahoe and a high of 33.3 mpg going back down hill). Handles great in mixed driving and handles trails with multi mode Torque Vectoring AWD like a pro rally car, and for 99.9% of my driving, the Auto Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist practically drives itself. It's hard to get into my girlfriend's Mercedes and have to think about driving a car. So, to all that are here leaving comments on the looks of this truck, post a pic of your girlfriend or wife so that we can comment on her. I'm sure she has a nice personality though.
How good is the AWD system on this? I drive a lot in slick snowy conditions. I’m torn between a Subaru Crosstrek, waiting for the Passport, or getting one of these. Just curious if you’ve had any good/bad snow experiences with this?
You could have found a better first example... not a fan of gender wars. That said, you are right about what matters more, and the people who laugh at the styling will hate the Civic Type-r for the same reason while being overwhelmed by its amazing capabilities.
DigitalMan269 well said! I think Honda has (for the most part) done a fantastic job. Most people just are not used to an auto maker actual “filling “ a NEED rather than marketing to try to make people believe what they need. And yes, I am speaking to all those maxed out 1/2 ton “off-road” version 4x4 trucks that drive back and forth to work every day (on pavement). The only thing I think Honda could do differently would be to make it “look” more like the so called real trucks. A little higher hood line, slightly bigger tires, done. Then even the pretenders would love it. My two pennies.
This truck is highly underated when off-roading. My uncle has one and does just fine when we go. I have a Grand Jeep Cherokee lifted. His Honda is lifted as well and does just fine. I'm very impressed with it.
The VTM-4 system in my 2007 Honda Pilot is awesome off-road. I bet this Ridgeline would be awesome off-road too with a 2” lift, all terrain tires, and sway bar disconnects.
These new ridgeline has the IVTM4 with torque vectoring. It can send 70% of engine power to the outside rear wheel when it's cornering. It's also full time AWD though it's front bias. It's a proactive AWD, not reactive. It is way way way better than just VTM4.
I will be buying a Passport or Ridgeline next year. I didn't like the Honda-Rep saying go thru the mud fast as you can. That was so you don't get stuck in the mud. A good test would be to stop in the mud and see if you can get out.
Jordan Graf It has road tires because it’s a road vehicle. I got nothing against ridgeline, but it doesn’t belong out there. I don’t know why they keep pretending it’s something that it’s not. If you’re even watching this vid...thinking you might be pushing your truck through obstacles off road...the ridgeline isn’t for you.
The one question/ thing that I see is that the Ridge has all-season, all-terrain radials. I would be curious to see how it worked with a more aggressive, more off road tire like a "Wild Country" or something
I'm more of a large sedan guy but I'm seriously considering a Ridgeline. I like the fact that it handles like a car but has the capability of a truck when you need it. It's also not a freaking behemoth either so it'll fit in our garage.
Great truck, and glad i upgraded from a 2007 to a 2018. Taken this truck to 8 states now, and going on year #2. low maintenance, and the flat trunk bed feauture with storage compartment sold me purchase. Also no issue fitting a honda 1000rr in the truck bed!
I have the first Gen 2007 RTS and it has 189k miles on it. But it’s been a dream to drive and is not afraid to get down and dirty. I’ve pulled trailers with it, pulled other trucks out of ditches in the snow, let it loose down a few twisty backroads and took it on a 6 hour road trip. It has never failed me. I put all terrain tires on it and aftermarket 18” wheels and an aftermarket APPLE CarPlay radio and speakers. Changed the headlight housings to black ones and converted all the lights including the buttons to LED. I’ll eventually replace it with a newer one but not brand new. But till then, I’ll keep it and drive it till it falls apart completely which will take a long time. Haha.
Correction that more load capability than a ZR2 Colorado NOT a Z71, LT, Base or W/T Colorado Ext Cab, of which is not available in the Ridgeline! The gas powered Colorado Ext Cab 4x4, 4 cyl or V6 other than ZR2 can carry up to 1,552 lbs and the V6 can tow up to 7,000lbs. The diesel can tow 7,500 lbs! Not to mention go off road better than any Ridgeline will ever, especially the ZR2!
The extended cab is a two door, not in the same class. Same reason you don't compare a single cab half ton with a crew cab, the former will always beat the latter.
CommieCat but still not needed to have more capacity or room. The Crew Cab Colorado in any trim level besides ZR2, like Base, W/T, LT or Z71, in rear or 4x4AWD all have an available longer bed with more weight and towing capacity, with a real body on frame truck that will absolutely take more abuse and overloading, than Honda’s fwd minivan based tuv.
I traded in my 06 Nissan Frontier with a 11 Honda Ridgeline The first generation Ridgeline is so much more comfortable and quite compared to the Frontier. I take it to the mountains all the time with the family for weekend camping adventures. It is as capable stock as my Frontier was with a 2in lift. For anyone who says its not capable hasn't driven a Ridgeline offroad. I will look at the second generation Ridgeline when I'm in the market for a new truck.
Alan Bowers I drive about 70% highway and 30% city. I average 20-21 in the winter and 22 in the summer months. (Sometimes 23 if I stop driving like Grandpa and drive like grandma)
shedrick s not terrible but not great either. I’d like to see 24-25 with that kind of driving. My 4 banger Tacoma gets around 23-24 and I’m okay with it though so maybe I’m too optimistic.
i just got a 19 awd, put it through a huge nasty very steep off camber hill that my LR4 handles like nothing, this video doesnt do the ridgeline justice. great little truck. from a former f350 diesel and long time chevy 4wd owner, yeah its not mean and macho but at 23 mpg on the highway, and nice ride, no remorse. the factory radios suck, remedied that, and thats it! enjoy
The only issue I have with this truck is on another video when things got really hairy, the transmission overheated and shut the truck down. Apparently this isn't an isolated incident either.
Look up the vid where it was tested against a Taco and a Colorado and came out on top in the 20 mile washboard road. The other 2 lost their suspensions and the Ridge came through just fine. Not one vehicle is without problems on an anecdotal level.
I am curious if this year of ridgeline can downshift for braking control coming down a long hill or mountain pass? ie. i see Drive (with overdrive lockout) and Low. Is there an ability to shift into 3rd or 2nd gear?
Ok I have your 2012 model. The trunk in it is so so so much better than your 2017 model. On your next model please please please bring back the larger trunk and larger spare tire space. Then I would greatly appreciate it if you would make so that it's towing capacity is at least 7000 lbs. Other than that you have created an awesome vehicle! If you make those 3 changes on your next model I promise that I will make that Honda ridgeline my next vehicle!
I’m impressed! It’s so capable. There’s nothing it can’t do. That test is brutal, no other truck can do better. This is the beginning of the end to the body on frame trucks. Game changer! Facts! (People yelling in the background)
I'd like to think so...but I dont think so...that being said...I talked my wife out of the tacoma for this...its a bit of a crossover, mixed with a minivan, mixed with a car and can truck pretty decent. Its fast. The engineering is what has me overlooking Colorado's and Taco's cause I'm just an urban dad who commutes to a military base and I wanna haul mulch and a small boat around and maybe tow a popup
The torque vectoring system sounds great. You didn't mention the gearing for the transmission. Since this is designed for light trail work, a 2 speed transfer case is unnecessary in my mind. However, a granny first gear that you can select when needed would be a great option if you need to crawl up a rough section of road and be cheaper than a 2 speed transfer case.
Not really "busted". For this event we used footage of other drivers making passes because you don't just want to see the inside of the car all the time. Pretty normal. Even Top Gear does it. (I know, SHOCKING!)
About Toyota Tundra and Honda Ridgeline which one is the best Truck ? I have 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA running excellent never have any issue, only change oil and tires
BabyBBB01 they are very different trucks. Toyota is standard body on frame. Drives, rides, and handles like a truck. Honda is very different. Drives and rides like a Camry but built strong for towing and more importantly, stopping a trailer without wearing out brakes or transmission. It’s a nice combination of truck and car. Truck for those of us who are not truck guys. That’s why it’s pretty rare to see one with a lot of after market stuff, big knobby tires, lights, winches, etc. it’s not that type of truck.
You talking Tundra or Tacoma? Tundra is a full size truck. Ridgeline and Tacoma are midsize. Toyota is excellent quality. I've driven Toyotas for the last 15 years. However, the Tacoma has a very uncomfortable cab and sitting position and fuel economy isn't so good which is why I went with the Ridgeline.
You could have built the ridgeline a little more traditionally like the bed rails for instance. Instead of building them so all most literally nothing can clamp to them. You could build the ridge line with certain other traditional truck type things and you would still have something that is its own thing and not like the other trucks out there.
I'm not sure how much time I just invested in reading these comments but I'm sure I could've gotten a lot of work done... Here's my rant. this is not a truck... this is not a truck... this is not a truck... ok ok ok fine... It's a minivan with a bed, a car with a bed... whatever it is, it's NOT A TRUCK... With that said and out in the open... how is it this "THING" can do 90% of what "TRUCK" owners need it to do? does that mean your REAL TRUCK sucks or does that mean this minivan with a bed is actually pretty damn capable for what it is? Here's the other kicker... Honda admits this isn't for off-roading... this video obviously and clearly demonstrates it has SOME KIND of off-road worthiness behind it. I will admit that every ones definition of "off-road" is something different and to many people in the world, this video is more off road than what they are willing to do with their vehicle. Yet here we are, arguing about it's off road prowess... so, are you supposed to off road with this thing? the short answer is NO... you're not... the long answer is... "YES" but that equates to what you're definition of off road means... Honda also admits that this thing is only rated at 5000 pounds of towing capacity, if you do tow more than that then why are you even looking at this thing?!? you should be in the market for a dually, you shouldn't even be watching this video... but here you are... arguing about it like you wanted to buy one but the towing capacity turned you off... if you're in the market for a F16 fighter jet then why are you looking at a Cessna prop plane? (hope that analogy makes sense)... last note... if this "THING" is so bad... and your REAL TRUCK is so good... then why do you need to defend your REAL TRUCK purchase?... Last but not least... these "GAY" comments gotta stop, there's enough hatred in this world and you're one of those people who perpetuates the ignorance.
I have never owned a Honda, but I am pretty much on FIRE to get a Honda Ridgeline as my wife and I are moving to the mountains in 30 days. It's GOING to HAPPEN!
Take my wife.....PLEASE! In the 30 years we’ve been together, she’s had more cars/vans/SUV’s than anybody ought to and she’s in love with a 2019 Pilot- says it’s the best thing she’s ever had, me included and i have to admit, it’s amazing. So, I decided to start looking at mid size trucks and after looking, driving, researching and a few beers, it hit me, get the Ridgeline fool!
Peter L it’s exactly as its intended. Out of the box, unconventional, and performs very well. Better than a box on wheels like all other American trucks
Although I kind of like the front end of it I can see where people who are a bit more in to a traditional truck look might find this front end a bit too tame. But to be fair, I think the front end is designed to appeal exactly to the segment this truck is marketed towards, which is traditional car owners, who want a truck on the side for occasional hauling and even a trip or two per year to the campgrounds. On the other hand, Honda has made this trucks drive system competent enough to even be able to attract a more serious truck buyer which I think is a category you might fit in to, so what Honda should consider doing with this truck is adding an optional version which would include a more edgy, tougher looking front facia, 1" higher suspension height, stock mud flaps, front skid plate. I see that some dealerships are now offering a lifted version of this truck, thus we're not the only ones who see that this truck could have broader appeal if optioned that way.
How is it in soft sand? That's one test I haven't t seen. I use my '06 Pilot at the beach and she works fine, but the tools that rip down the beach, faster than they should, and others with wide tires cause some deep ruts to be dug out causing me to sometimes bottom out.
Ridge line is an interesting vehicle. It’s a great city truck for someone who is only worried about dirt roads or snow, and wants something comfortable with a bed. But if you’re going to actually off-road the thing this vehicle shouldn’t be on your shopping list, it wasn’t made for it. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad vehicle, but why does it keep trying to be something it’s not?
I like the ridgline but like the Colorado better for durability doing truck things. The ridgline is all most folks will need and will likely last a long time too. I did not like that the beginning of the video saying the ridgline can tow more than a "Colorado". WRONG. My 2018 Z71 4x4 V6 legally tows 7000lbs.... and can easily beat the 24mpg rating on the hwy.... of course it can do worse with the wrong driver. If you get the off-road ZR2 or gas 4cylinder.... then it would be correct. The ZR2 tows 5000lbs and the 4cylinder tows 3500. I wonder if the transmission fluid filter is easy to change on these things? That is essential for transmission longevity on a vehicle used for towing.
That could have been worded better. As you stated, the Ridgeline has a few pounds greater payload capacity than the Colorado and it can tow equal to the ZR2 Colorado (which is shown in the video) at 5,000 lbs. Because of the greater payload that does mean it can do "more" than a ZR2 Colorado and more than a base 4-cylinder Colorado. Granted, with tow packages and a diesel the Colorado can go all the way up to 7,700 (2WD) or (4WD). Options are good.
Depends on what you're using it for. Colorado is no good at the lumber yard for sheet goods. 4' width won't fit in the bed. Picking up sheet goods is, "a truck thing". I've owned trucks for the last 40yrs. In that time there has not been a lot of off roading required but lot's of mileage done that I would like to have gotten 27mpg or higher, like my new Pilot which is the same vehicle as this Ridgeline.
S Patoine maybe if you don’t know how to load properly. But you have forgot the bed length is shorter that a 6+’ Colorado Ext Cab or long bed Crew Cab! That if you use the two tear loading system, using the molded into the bed sides that let you load long items side by side as high as the wheel wells, then you load the sheets on top. With the tailgate down offers up to 7.8’ Of length. Then of course there’s more load capacity and towing capacity, not to mention off road capacity. Sure the Ridgeline is a fine vehicle, but do not try and compare to a real truck.
I bought a GMC 1500 fully loaded a year ago. Very pleased with everything but a roughest drive ever, transmission is hunting at all times. I'm getting tired of everyday driving. At this stage I dont care of payload nor towing capability. Looking at ridgeline
It is what it is . It is not a rough and tumble trail truck. It is not made for towing real heavy loads but if you need to tow something that's you know, you want to tow your snowmobiles or or Modest size boat and you want to be able to carry a decent load in the back of the truck for some projects This is great. The super handling all Wheel drive system is unique and it is wonderful. The thing handles good and it is comfortable. Sure maybe it's not a truck per say but it's a truck like very handy very versatile vehicle. And guys I'm sorry to say I have friends that have beautiful brand new Ford And Chevy and GMC vehicles and they are already having problems with the newer transmissions and some of the engines you're not gonna have that with the Honda. It's probably not for you if you need one of those other vehicles but guess what you're probably gonna have 0 problems with it.
When I was a teenager my best friend had a truck that sat lower to the ground . It was called an El Camino. But it was referred to by the dealer as a truck. This reminds me of it, but it's superior to today's midsize truck market in everyway. I say put a 2 inch lift and leveling kit on this and it's unstoppable. Add fox shocks and Toyota fan boys will come running.
Honda could have made the Ridgeline a bit better offroad and made stake pockets in the bed sides instead of the music though the Music playing thing is cool and they still could have had the most unique truck on the market.
I have no doubt that this is the missing pickup in Brazil. FIAT (through JEEP) has launched a super pickup - the Toro - which is now widely accepted here. I even studied Toro for a year and decided to buy. But after two years of use, I decided to sell. Not because I find the car bad. But for abominating the way FIAT does its after-sales service. Today I have a Honda WR-V and it's a great car. But my need and passion is the pickup. If it's Diesel ... then that's what I love. Honda has everything to bring the Ridegeline to Brazil. I look forward to this arrival.
I don't have a problem with unibody. I don't have a problem with fully independant suspension. My problem is with the drivetrain. As someone who works on their own vehicles, I HATE transverse mounted V6s. The rear cylinder bank is just such a pain to access. Also, I'm not a fan of the overly complicated awd systems. I think gm has had it right since the early 2000s. 2wd, 4auto, 4lock, 4low. That's all you need. The rest comes from driver skill and experience.
About the only problem I see with Ridgeline is ground clearance. I wish it had at least 9"! That's right, 9". I wonder if it could be lifted a bit and have some different shocks? I find out. Go to Ridgeline forum and ask boys who drive them...
Fast forward 6 years, and now the 2025 Ridgeline has more aggressive styling, but lacks ground clearance. Maybe a complete makeover in 2026 that will hopefully add: improved ground clearance, improved adaptive cruise control, electronic hold parking brake and a traditional shift lever instead of push buttons. An interior facelift would be nice too.
I like the concept/selling points of having features like a truck but with a ride of a car..so that's impressive. But I'm taken back a little bit by the interior being a bit on the plastic / plain side. Not much wow factor inside at all. Over all I'd consider one when my 16 year old Tundra finally needs replacing.
My neighbor has a 07 Honda Ridgeline with 750,000 miles. I’ve an 06 Ridgeline with 119,000. This is a great truck for the average guy that doesn’t need a big truck but needs to move some furniture or Home Depot goods. Very easy to change oil and filter yourself.
If you do lots of off-roading, don't get Ridgeline. Its ground clearance is less than 9". I wouldn't say Tundra is a better off-road truck but it does have good ground clearance. If you search Edmunds' Death Valley Ridgeline tests video, you will know what I meant.
Is this a serious question? Good lord, there is no comparison. The Tundra is built for off road, the Ridgeline is built for pavement Princess’s who like to pretend they have a truck while they tout “comfort”.
I owned the former version of the Ridgeline. It was a good vehicle, but I wouldn't do any serious off roading with it. Still, I miss it from time to time. It was very comfortable as a daily driver and met my needs. The gas mileage, though, is no better than a Silverado. 16 mpg in town.
Talking about vehicle cargo and towing "...thats more than even the chevy colorado. " I didn't know that 5000lbs was more than 7700lbs. The colorado can tow 7700lbs.
They shouldn’t attempt to present the Ridgeline as a rock climber or stump jumper. It’s not.It ‘s great for light to medium duty work which is fine for most.It will handle washboard roads well, just don’t search for boulders.
They kind of lost credibility in the first 30 seconds...the Colorado can tow over 7000 lbs when properly equipped. Last I checked that’s more than 5000. Are they just making numbers up?
We commented a lot on this when the video first came out. The tow capacity exceeds that of the ZR2 which is shown. That important specific was in the script I didn’t make it in the video.
Driving Sports TV Ok, but the ZR2 loses tow capacity because it’s a dedicated off roader, which the Honda certainly is not. Honest mistake on the numbers, fair enough, but zR2 vs Ridgeline is kind of comparing apples and oranges. It’s never going to be the same buyer.
I'd be a buyer if it towed more and had at least another inch of ground clearance. Perhaps the air suspension like the RAM to lift it. My 4000# trailer would push it to it's max when loaded, and hill climbing that way would be SLOW.
Had my 08 ridgeline last up to 350,000kms and with weekend towing of a loaded two atv trailer so about 3000 pounds. It got me more than ten years of hard use, the engine still does not eat oil but the transmission is toast now. Dont know what to go with next, colorado, tacoma, or another ridgeline.
0:02 shit almost got it’s rocker panels torn off lmao this shit was NOT designed to go off road. It’s designed for someone who works a 9-5 during the week and occasionally gets into a project on the weekend.
What about Toyota Tundra built in Texas?
Patrick Davies great truck but it’s a traditional truck and drives like it. I don’t need or want that. That’s why I have the Ridgeline. Does what I need and want with a nice smooth ride. I like and. I never need 4wd
@@johnlepkowski3831 you're not a truck guy but you still bought a truck, period. Ride or handling and capacity has nothing to do with it being a truck.
John Lepkowski Toyota’s are built and Manufactured in Indiana.
@@Deimos5224 No they arent. Some might be. But there a HUGE Toyota plant in Texas. My best friend worked there.
@@jg8263 100%Agree. I look forward to this time of year and getting the winter tires on the truck. This is when advanced AWD shines on icy roads.
Well it’s not sh-awd it’s tuned differently. iVTM-4
Best one to pass judgement is an owner. I am one. It is a great truck. I don’t need a macho truck to project an image.
Paul Cherbini it looks like a women’s truck
@@zakm4012 Found the guy who needs a macho truck to project an image.
Stetrain Indeed you have. What now?
Paul Cherbini this is the people’s truck despite what people think. I can’t tell you how many trucks I see every day not being used as trucks, meanwhile these things will get it all done but people don’t want to drive it because it’s a “women’s truck” the only thing it can’t do is tow a great deal, everything else is no problem.
+Kain J not a fan of reading comprehension huh?
I love my 2017 black its been a a very solid performer for me even drove up to the arctic circle.
Nice. That is a Very long dirt road!
Miguel Torres Oh Yea
How many trucks have you owned?
Is not a truck
Miguel Torres it’s not a truck
@@billyedd1447 What's your definition of "truck"?
I got my new Honda Ridgline 2019 Sport at the begining of May and I'm just in love with it. It's so comfortable and the drive is amazing. I just love it!
how has it held up?
Has everything I would need. I tow my Miata on a light open wheel trailer (about 3000lbs), like to have the weather assurance and capability if needed for light trail duty, and use my current Tacoma as a daily. Hopefully Honda continues with this philosophy for another generation or two so that when I'm able to comfortably afford something like this, it'll still be available.
My only issue with this truck is Honda should made it look a bit more aggressive
Ya no thanks have you seen the R or Si.
I love how the R looks
C Steele They need to Release there Diesel Edition that have for years but are saving it for some reason
100% agree with you, love mine too, replaced a Passport by 2022 RL, perfect vehicle for all my DIY projects :-)
love my black edition. nothing in its class comes close comfort wise.
Eddie Kuhn or look as much as a minivan with a lobotomy.
It’s a great truck. Haters are jealous.
Thats because its in a segment of one. It is a Pilot with a bed and thats it.
There is nothing in it's class to compare it to? Name another uni body truck sold in America? this is a good truck per say for people that don't really use their truck as a truck and more of a car, but if your towing and using a truck as a TRUCK i would pass on this truck. But for most this will do what most people need from a "truck".
if you're towing..you don't buy a tacoma or colorado. you get a big boi truck. quit whining it's embarrassing
😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
AWD + All-Weather Tires = Zero Worries ;-)
@@guardrail2897 That's the total weight on a scale. (trailer, truck and a Harley on the bed of the truck.)
The Ridgeline is the best truck on the market.
No it's not, not even in the quarter ton class
Ehhhh
ha, the idiotic "it's not a truck" comments are always good for a laugh.
It's not though
ha ha, thanks for the laugh. vote up.
Ur just salty this is the thing u can afford
Well it looks like a van that got cut up and customized to look like a truck. But for honda sake i will give it a try, i got a short wife problem so i guess this will make her complain less.
+Electro Shuffle was that directed at me, or bomber?
I just don't like the front end of this thing. Everything else is amazng though.
It makes up for better fuel mileage and a slightly smaller truck.
cant agree more my fd the front is just like a toy car
You hit the nail on the head.
I love my 2017 RTL.
How good is the AWD system on this? I drive a lot in slick snowy conditions. I’m torn between a Subaru Crosstrek, waiting for the Passport, or getting one of these. Just curious if you’ve had any good/bad snow experiences with this?
@@SavvyTruth Just drove all weekend in the snow and had zero issues. Works like a charm.
That moment when the Honda Ridgeline outmaneuvers it’s outdated rivals both off-road and on-road.
Yo man I know your comment is 4 years old but that’s what I did with my ridgeline lol
@@Bob-lp7ok That is awesome! I have videos of the Pilot VTM-4 system in action on my channel if you want to check it out.
I will be buying a Passport or Ridgeline next year. I didn't like the Honda-Rep saying go thru the mud fast as you can. That was so you don't get stuck in the mud. A good test would be to stop in the mud and see if you can get out.
The Fast portion was actually just on hard packed gravel. Zero chance of getting stuck there.
It had road tires. No reason to risk getting stuck.
And for the same reason all those off roaders with the oversized chunky tires should stay off the road
That's a battle for the tires to fight, not the truck. I'm guessing this was a dealership ready vehicle with standard all season tires.
Always liked these.
Love my frontier and wouldn’t trade it for anything but these are pretty sweet
I'm on my second Ridgeline. Although I'd like some better features its still the best in it's class.
It does what I need to do when I need to do it. That's good enough for me.
Haha.
Love this video!! Great job filled with great info
K. R. V. Exactly they tried to hype it up cause it can to more then a soft suspensioned zr2
It’s a grocery getting Accord with a bed. That being said, a lot of people need that.
I have the 2017 RTL-E and my only gripe is fuel economy. Wish it was better.
What are you averaging, and under what conditions (percent city/highway)?
Alan Bowers I drive about 70% highway and 30% city. I average 20-21 in the winter and 22 in the summer months. (Sometimes 23 if I stop driving like Grandpa and drive like grandma)
shedrick s not terrible but not great either. I’d like to see 24-25 with that kind of driving. My 4 banger Tacoma gets around 23-24 and I’m okay with it though so maybe I’m too optimistic.
i get 24.5 mpg using eco 80% highway cruising around 50 mph
Alan Bowers Your right it's not terrible but I was hoping to average 24 for my commute back and forth to work.
So... what happened at 5:24 ? Quite the little jump-cut away from the action there. Must have been interesting.
i just got a 19 awd, put it through a huge nasty very steep off camber hill that my LR4 handles like nothing, this video doesnt do the ridgeline justice. great little truck. from a former f350 diesel and long time chevy 4wd owner, yeah its not mean and macho but at 23 mpg on the highway, and nice ride, no remorse. the factory radios suck, remedied that, and thats it! enjoy

Honda guy : just slam it...i wanna see how much you can get on the sunroof..
Also honda guy: chill asf
Hell yeah.. trading my f150 in on one
Busted. at 4:22, the person driving is not the same person that is driving when the camera is inside the truck.
Never buy a Press Car.
Best Ridgline review!

Best comment ever!
I have never owned a Honda, but I am pretty much on FIRE to get a Honda Ridgeline as my wife and I are moving to the mountains in 30 days. It's GOING to HAPPEN!
I own a 2006 Ridgeline. Can't wait until I can afford the new model!
I take my wife everywhere but she keeps coming back!
THEY NEED TO RESTYLE IT. IT LOOKS A LITTLE TOO PEDESTRIAN FOR A TRUCK. PROBABLY SOMETHING THEY'RE SHOOTING FOR BUT IT LOOKS REALLY BLAND.
Its by a truck its a tumor
They did like 2 years ago. Honda changes their models every 4-5 yrs. Definitely like this look better than the prior ridgelines.
Design as intended !
How is it in soft sand? That's one test I haven't t seen. I use my '06 Pilot at the beach and she works fine, but the tools that rip down the beach, faster than they should, and others with wide tires cause some deep ruts to be dug out causing me to sometimes bottom out.
Honda is AWESOME. Congrats.
Kaiser Tuumalo 👍👍
I knew that is what you meant. Just helping car shoppers. That was a good quality video too. Good job!
Driving Sports TV as I wrote above. Only the Crew Cab not Ext Cab that can carry more payload.
Can I get a 6” lift or long travel on this ridgeline??? If so sold!!!!
Looks like a 2-inch lift is max available in the aftermarket right now.
Nope. Lol
Suave House It has independent suspension all around so that's something you have to consider
Nope not a real truck heavily limits mods
For that you would need to buy a truck. A car that looks like a truck is not for that.
I had a Colorado with 7500 lb towing capacity. How is that less than 5000 on Honda
Had is the keyword. Lol!
I need to know if recovery points and winch can be added to the new Ridgeline ?
Honda could have made the Ridgeline a bit better offroad and made stake pockets in the bed sides instead of the music though the Music playing thing is cool and they still could have had the most unique truck on the market.
I want one but i need to make sure it can go overlanding. Need this beast asap
Can someone tell me why the front is lower than the back?
And also, why wern't these released in New Zealand
I would imagine you would really mess up the geometry if you try to lift this thing. You take it as is or leave it.
What? 5k is not more than a Colorado! I have a Colorado and it’s towing capacity is 7k unless you have diesel then it’s 7600
The features this truck has are what makes it amazing. I wish the front end was of the new model CRV. Looks badass
I am considering this Honda vs the Toyota tundra trd pro, which is the better off- road vehicle?
If you do lots of off-roading, don't get Ridgeline. Its ground clearance is less than 9". I wouldn't say Tundra is a better off-road truck but it does have good ground clearance. If you search Edmunds' Death Valley Ridgeline tests video, you will know what I meant.
Is this a serious question? Good lord, there is no comparison. The Tundra is built for off road, the Ridgeline is built for pavement Princess’s who like to pretend they have a truck while they tout “comfort”.
is this the best off road challenge you can test? My car can go through this
I thought that only Acura had the Super All Wheel Drive? While the Rigdeline and Pilot had the standard AWD.
Alan Taylor with a lift and some mud tires it could handle quite a lot of wheeling. Certainly more than the new generation
Close to buying one. Is this one Forest Mist?
It’s off a little proportionally .. it has an awkward stance from most angles but certain angles it’s spot on!
Sure looks good. A sensible buy.
Pty it's not available in Australia, maybe not suited to the conditions here.
Talking about vehicle cargo and towing "...thats more than even the chevy colorado. " I didn't know that 5000lbs was more than 7700lbs. The colorado can tow 7700lbs.
payload dude.. Watch again.
Rear door's are opening in very limited and very difficult to get in and out ????!!!! its really bad and very small space in the rear seat
There is a very easy $30ish dollar fix for this. There is a youtube vid showing the process and provides the part numbers
They shouldn’t attempt to present the Ridgeline as a rock climber or stump jumper. It’s not.It ‘s great for light to medium duty work which is fine for most.It will handle washboard roads well, just don’t search for boulders.
I want to know more about the suspension
11 May 2018???? after this day (12 May) my sister (younger) is born
I don't like that the drive options are awd or fwd why not rear wheel drive?
I'd be a buyer if it towed more and had at least another inch of ground clearance. Perhaps the air suspension like the RAM to lift it. My 4000# trailer would push it to it's max when loaded, and hill climbing that way would be SLOW.
@6:15 Time for Rain-X! xD Have 90K miles on my 2018 and man, does it drive nice. Sadly, haven't been able to really try it in the snow yet.
My Colorado actually tows 7000 3.6 liter 8 speed
I don't tow that heavy so I don't need a Colorado. Besides, Colorado doesn't have ACC, LKAS, CMBS, etc safety features. I like Colorado's look though.
I love my 2018 Ridgeline Sport! Awesome vehicle.
0:02 shit almost got it’s rocker panels torn off lmao this shit was NOT designed to go off road. It’s designed for someone who works a 9-5 during the week and occasionally gets into a project on the weekend.
Most trucks are pavement princesses lol. You see them a lot, you know it, and it's a fact lol.
I wanna take one up the trail at Ed Levin Park. If it makes it I'll consider it!
