Wizardrod isn't the best example of a "defence type" it's whole gimmick in outward weight distribution which increases stamina to the max but unfortunately TT being the funny dudes they are decided to make this round as a Garuda and because of that less recoil yada yada ya presto chango we got a really broken bey with 100% stamina and really good defence 😢

Looks like you need a fatter ratchet (maybe a 9 60 considering how much the star shape gets tossed around) and a sharper bit (needle maybe) but I think black shell could be peak ngl
While i may not have black shell to experiment with, you should try Black Shell 9-60H/1-60accel ones made to be unburstable while the other capitalizes on its jagged shape

draciel was a favorite of mine back in the day and im excited for black shell which solidifies my trend of my favorite beys this gen being garbage (this, shinoi shadow, rhino horn, steel samurai)
I feel like 5-60 Point on black shell could bring out some hidden potential, a lot of people say it's a great ratchet sniper on 5-60 Low flat, but I don't generally vibe with black shell being an all out attacker maybe balance type being sort of a counter-attacker. Since the time of this post I've practiced with him some more and decided to keep him with Dot, might try Hexa but would have to buy blue fire phoenix 🐦🔥 for that part
@nuc Could you believe that black shell busted multiple beyblades at a tournament this weekend, including wizard rod. The stock combo for black shell is junk, but if you switch it to a better ratchet like something-60 and low flat this beyblades is a beast.
Fabel'd Beyblades did some in depth testing with that exact combo on their channel and it had pretty abysmal results. Something like a 30% over 120 battles against some pretty standard meta combos.
Logically, it seems to me that defense and stability are the same. Why would defense types be made lighter and more angular than stability? That makes Zero sense. If it can deflect hits like stability, then it's defense. If it has angles and slings for hits, then it's attack.
I feel you Jake on how sucky all these “Defense” types are in X but trust me Leon Crest will avenge them its 35g for the Blade very respectable weight, Wide and Mostly Round shape to shrug off attacks and Very thick shape to not get bursted or put off balance easily so none of that BS light Counter Attack bs will be on Crest its a true Defense type. cant wait for your unboxing on Leon Crest and hopefully Phoenix Rudder too

Nah in terms of defense shinobi is way better. ShinobiShadow defense on 9-80U is pretty solid, consistently beating DranBuster and SharkEdge and having a good chance against TyrannoBeat. For defense the weakest are SphinxCowl or RhinoHorn by far and in terms of overall performance Sphinx is easily the worst.
My Hot Take: (maybe not so hot) but I think takara needs to make a call back on all their defense types and remake them into heavier versions of themselves. Without touching the shape of the blades. Also, the rhino horn blade… should it even be a defense blade at this point? Shouldn’t TT just change it into an attack blade because of how jagged it is? I think that defense label needs to be swapped out or make rhino horn really heavy too. Furthermore, Defense bits should also have the 2nd best burst resistance. A tad bit less than attack types. In my opinion because the X system is catered to attack types, they should heavily buff the defense types and make Defense very hard to beat. Also for further releases please make them either very round or give them a design whether it be curvy or jagged enough so that it can counter with reliable recoil when hit. Of course don’t make them all OP and impossible to burst right? I actually think bursting them should be the only way to beat them most of the time. but it would be more rare and only the very best attack/ balance blades or parts should be able to knock a defense type Out. Basically forcing anyone using an aggressive bey to make a stellar combo or have great launch technique given that they already have the game literally tailored made to their style of bey. As for stamina types, just make them spin super long I guess 😅 and don’t leave them in the dust in terms of weight either.
Dot is pretty decent, and black shell is okay for attack. I just think TT should stop making counter attack defense types and make a pure defense type that can tank hits and stay sturdy as the attack type dies from stamina. Ofc it has to be heavy enough, which TT refuses to do💀

He showed the science of Defense types and ever since then, my defense types, black shell included, almost always wins even against Phoenix Wing and Dran Bsuter. You should check it out. Black Shell is so good bro! People hate defense types because od competative bladers hating the weight of the defense types, but when does takara tomt make mistakes like that this much? They are lighter for a reason and it has to do with the way defense types work.

I love defense types and always have loved them and actually got real discouraged and stopped really paying attention to beyblade x after a lot of channels started talking so much crap about them. But when I watched that video lsb released it made me feel better for liking defense types. I say give black shell some runs with the lsb method, and actually all your defense types if I'm honest. I have rarely lost to any attack types since then. And I know the channel leftspinbeys doesn't state that defense types are Meta, but it does show that they aren't bad at all lol. Anyways you, beybladegeeks, leftburst and leftspinbeys are the only channels I watch for beyblade now because, for the most part, you guys aren't biased and state that your opinions are facts. The X stadium heavily favors attack types. X tournament format should introduce one more stadium. A two player stadium that directs the x dash slightly away from the center (like the 3 player stadium) to give defense and stamina better survivability. Then maybe let the stadium be randomized when you enter a tourney to force players to adapt.
They did this because defense/stamina were always the Meta. By making a stadium that helps attack and balance types more, you're left with 2 choices: Either you play defense and stamina and pray that X-Dashes don't connect in order to outlast your opponent. Or play it risky with the big points by going on the offense
I think the attack focus is good. If the stadium wasn't attack focused, then nobody would use attack types. Attack needs to be given an advantage because there's still a lot of risk to using them. High risk, high reward.

Do you think the reason everyone rates defense types as a whole super low is because we as a community dont understand the game enough to make use of them? Like wouldn't making a build that takes advantage of recoil for counter attacks make them viable in matchups that don't outweigh them by ~10g or arent WRod? I'm new to the game, returnign after 15ish years off, and it just seems odd that 1/3 of beys made are worthless solely from type alone. Game balance wise that doesn't make sense
The issue is weight and balance. Light weight isnt horrible BUT distribution and balancing makes a bigger deal. Shell seems decently balanced but mine is especially light, and the shape is really recoil sensitive. They are usable for sure, but DO require more skill than the meta stuff so you're right about that. It seems like for every usecase you can think of for shell, theres like 2-3 beys (atleast) that would be a better pick.
Weakest defense type is a stretch, it's just as weak as most releases for that type, but not as disappointing as something like shinobi shadow. It hits like a truck though, so running it on an aggro setup turns it into a top 10 attack option in my opinion. Far from weak.
@@nuc do agree with that, just saying there's worse defense choices and ones with less redeeming qualities. If you can run it as an attacker, it might not be a defense type anymore, but it's better than those that can't compete in attack
Blackshell is a tortoise, not a turtle. Tortoises are terrestrial reptiles with feet and claws, while turtles have flippers. Also the inspiration behind Blackshell (and Draciel) is the Black Tortoise of the North/Winter from the four auspicious beasts.
When you launch one befire the other, your test is Not accurate. As soon as you launch one beyblade, it begins to decelerate. Please launch at the same time when showcasing.
Black Shell isn't that bad for Defence. You were very unlucky with your black shell's weight, mine are both easily 33 grams. D is much better than you gave it credit, you need to wear down the contact point somewhat through play, other channels have shown it to be strong with wizard rod. Equally, you're launching flat and with not much power, which is really bad both for D and for this blade. The ratchet IS ass though I'll give you that.
@@nuc Yeah but pitting black shell against black shell as the only test you did with correct technique doesn't help a great deal, either way black shell loses in that scenario.
And like I said it's worth wearing in D. The way it plays right out of the box is actually quite bad because of the middle contact point effectively putting it on a needle. As that wears down/rounds off it becomes more equivalent to ball, which really helps prevent it from just immediately flying out of the stadium.
Leon Crest on average is like 1g heavier than Black Shell is on average. What really makes Leon Crest is the shape of the ratchet combined with the blade, but honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Black Shell also benefits from running that ratchet.
Black shell sucks. It has bad defense and even though the turtle Beyblade is awesome it just doesn't work. I do want recolors of black shell like a Blue,Green and Red ones referring to Mario Kart Shells and if you wanna say that Black Shell counts as a item from Mario Kart you can say that and you can also say that the Beyblade is referred as the Bakuten Shoot Beyblade generation aka The Beyblade Generation. Black Shell is ACTUALLY a Mario Kart item in the Arcade game. It can be used in Mario Kart Arcade GP And GP 2 as well as DX. so i wouldn't be surprised if Takara Tomy ever makes another Black Shell recolor referencing the Mario Kart Shells

Turns out shell can counter rod pretty dam well and I mean the meta rods. Gotta launch a tad hard though

Do you think the reason everyone rates defense types as a whole super low is because we as a community dont understand the game enough to make use of them? Like wouldn't making a build that takes advantage of recoil for counter attacks make them viable in matchups that don't outweigh them by ~10g or arent WRod? I'm new to the game, returnign after 15ish years off, and it just seems odd that 1/3 of beys made are worthless solely from type alone. Game balance wise that doesn't make sense
The issue is weight and balance. Light weight isnt horrible BUT distribution and balancing makes a bigger deal. Shell seems decently balanced but mine is especially light, and the shape is really recoil sensitive. They are usable for sure, but DO require more skill than the meta stuff so you're right about that. It seems like for every usecase you can think of for shell, theres like 2-3 beys (atleast) that would be a better pick.
Weakest defense type is a stretch, it's just as weak as most releases for that type, but not as disappointing as something like shinobi shadow. It hits like a truck though, so running it on an aggro setup turns it into a top 10 attack option in my opinion. Far from weak.
As soon as you make it an aggro build, its not really a defense type anymore tbh.
@@nuc do agree with that, just saying there's worse defense choices and ones with less redeeming qualities. If you can run it as an attacker, it might not be a defense type anymore, but it's better than those that can't compete in attack

Why does Beyblade X hate defense types?
Blackshell is a tortoise, not a turtle. Tortoises are terrestrial reptiles with feet and claws, while turtles have flippers. Also the inspiration behind Blackshell (and Draciel) is the Black Tortoise of the North/Winter from the four auspicious beasts.
When you launch one befire the other, your test is Not accurate. As soon as you launch one beyblade, it begins to decelerate.
Please launch at the same time when showcasing.

Black Shell isn't that bad for Defence. You were very unlucky with your black shell's weight, mine are both easily 33 grams. D is much better than you gave it credit, you need to wear down the contact point somewhat through play, other channels have shown it to be strong with wizard rod. Equally, you're launching flat and with not much power, which is really bad both for D and for this blade. The ratchet IS ass though I'll give you that.
I launched harder at the end vs yellow shell. Idk, I guess i was unlucky with the weight BUT its still very niche usecase.
@@nuc Yeah but pitting black shell against black shell as the only test you did with correct technique doesn't help a great deal, either way black shell loses in that scenario.
And like I said it's worth wearing in D. The way it plays right out of the box is actually quite bad because of the middle contact point effectively putting it on a needle. As that wears down/rounds off it becomes more equivalent to ball, which really helps prevent it from just immediately flying out of the stadium.

Leon Crest on average is like 1g heavier than Black Shell is on average. What really makes Leon Crest is the shape of the ratchet combined with the blade, but honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Black Shell also benefits from running that ratchet.

Black shell sucks. It has bad defense and even though the turtle Beyblade is awesome it just doesn't work. I do want recolors of black shell like a Blue,Green and Red ones referring to Mario Kart Shells and if you wanna say that Black Shell counts as a item from Mario Kart you can say that and you can also say that the Beyblade is referred as the Bakuten Shoot Beyblade generation aka The Beyblade Generation.
Black Shell is ACTUALLY a Mario Kart item in the Arcade game. It can be used in Mario Kart Arcade GP And GP 2 as well as DX. so i wouldn't be surprised if Takara Tomy ever makes another Black Shell recolor referencing the Mario Kart Shells
