Awesome tie George, will try to tie one for the next trip, thumbs up and greetings from New Zealand.Just back for a trout fishing trip mate.Tight lines.
Hi George great video as always. A tip that might help you get a better grip on the hackle stem if you can find some bicycle valve rubber from puncture repair kit, a short length on one of the jaws of the hackle pliers gets you a better grip and more control in the winding of the hackle. Used this method myself over the years. Still slip on a few but makes it a lot easier. Don't know if they still have it in puncture repair kits anymore though. Regards Paul
I've tied them with mallard. Are snipe still plentiful? I even feel guilty using ,allard. Maybe its time to reduce our usage of wild bird plumage? Otherwise I love your tying. :--)
Great little fly when there is a hatch of iron blues. Unfortunately the iron blue hatch isn't as prolific as that day with you George. Happy Christmas 🎄
Another great fly above a nymph I find it better fished upstream and swinging around,I used to hunt them with my father you must be a fair shot yourself George,

Thanks Paul,I've used that method and numerous others over the years, none of them seem to work consistently,we live in hope..
Great looking softhackle, thanks
Thank you for your interest.
Great fly Thanks for sharing. Tom
Thank you too!
These are excellent flies. Here in the states snipe is hard to come by. I tie these using starling.
Whatever works eh?

I'm not an expert on bird population but snipe appear to be plentiful enough.
