I kinda wanna see Luffy make Dragon laugh now which I think could be beautiful with how serious Dragon always is but when he sees Luffy he can't help but laugh. Maybe that's another reason why he calls Luffy his weaknesses because it's littlerally a moment of weakness that someone can take advantage of and kill him. If so, no wonder he said something like he might as well be killed then and there if he kept asking about Luffy
You forgot one key point Dragon was only referred to by "Dragon" not "Monkey D Dragon" people didn't know he was Garp's Son or Luffy's Father until after Marineford. When it was first mentioned in Post-Enies Lobby the Marines said that they hadn't heard his full name before
I actually think the "A child is a parents weakness" foreshadows Garp's death. We saw that Garp wanted to attack Akainu during Marineford because he killed Ace and I'm pretty sure he still loves his own son more than his duty.
@@joegarage5569 its pretty clear garp's entire character arc in marineford was one of conflict, he couldn't help either of his grandsons even though he did love them
One thing I think that you missed, was that in the official, it's not that Kuma just went and stretched his legs, it's that he followed Dragon who was actually watching Luffy at the time. So Dragon does go to visit Luffy, just Luffy never notices or he always stays hidden.
Imagine at the end for the final fight Garp, Dragon and Luffy team up to fight the final villain. An epic shot of them standing next to each other like the "I want to live" scene when the Straw hats were standing next to each other.
The idea that, no matter the path they walk in life, every person who bears the Will of D always stands and fights for freedom. That creates room for even adding a temporary alliance with Blackbeard to this lineup.
I don't remember who it was, but one of the big OP youtubers recently mentionned something about Oda being a bit of an absentee dad himself due to the insane schedule of one piece and struggling to do his best to take time with his daughters. I feel like that may somewhat factor into what feelings Dragon conveys towards Luffy by the end of the series.
As someone who grew up without a father, the best way I can sum up Luffys feelings about Dragon is that it's very hard to miss or feel sad about not having something that you never had to begin with. Of course Luffy *knows* he had a father and everything but if he was never around you can't have those experiences and memories to miss. I doubt he's going to be angry or hurt about Dragons choices, I imagine he'll understand completely (maybe not right away though).
I can see him understanding while the angry ones are his crew members (I'm picturing in my mind that they could need to meet and team up to finally "do the move" Dragon have been waiting for, which would pretty much overlap with Luffy's goal as soon as he'll know more in details about the celestials)
Since Dragon is always portrayed as so serious, I've always thought it'd be fun if when Luffy and Dragon finally meets, we see that Dragon is just like Luffy, having the same quirky personality, but acting more serious when doing the things Luffy does :D
btw tekking, TCB's translation for the Kuma/Dragon boat scene are a bit sus, the official translation is pretty different as it instead shows that Kuma saw that Dragon was routinely hanging around a foosha village watching a specific child rather than Kuma stumbling across Luffy and somehow deducing he's Dragon's kid
17:28- Maybe Luffy did know of his mom because it was implied through the text that Garp dropped Luffy off at Goa Kingdom rather than him being born there and whatever happened to his mom was something that caused Luffy to think being lonely was the worst thing imaginable- something so traumatizing that he repressed it currently and it'll come out when he finds something to remind him of that revelation. And that Luffy's mom didn't raise Luffy initially with Dragon's existence in mind due to something in their past.
yeah i think we're missing a important part of luffys life we probably wont learn about it until we actually know what luffys dream is i believe it has something to do with his past
Wasn’t Dragon’s full name a secret? Otherwise everyone would connect the dots immediately to Luffy. Same for Garp actually, did the world forget Garp’s surname?
@@alihordanah man i mean that might be the original reason but i feel like once he had it all mapped out that thats the canonical reason cuz we only ever have seen 3 Monkey D. And 2 are globally known
Dragon and Robin probably share a similar dynamic spending time together, and I feel like she may know how dragon feels on a personal level. The same reason we don't see her share anything with Luffy openly, perhaps she is waiting for them to link up & settle things in their own way since they're so different. But I will say they do share the quality of having strong convictions for their goals
I cannot in good conscious call Dragon a bad dad just for not being in luffy’s life. That alone is to low a metric to be the decider. If there is anything I learned in this life practically everything and especially parenting is nuanced. Does holding on to your child when you’re unable to provide for their health make you a good parent? Does providing everything out of obligation but not love make you a good parent? And if they are in your life are they better for it? Being a good parent will depend on the circumstances of the life you bring them into. Dragon made the best choice for luffy. The best choice for luffy to grow up and freely choose how he lives his life. The freedom he gave everything to fight for everyone he gave to luffy. Because if luffy was with dragon luffy wouldn’t be free enough to choice his own path
The main thing that would connect Luffy and Dragon is Sabo. For all intents and purposes Dragon is the reason Sabo is alive and Luffy still has a brother left and he kept Robin safe for two years. So on that note Luffy I feel would be grateful to dragon and if dragon tells him that he is the one who saved him back at Lougetown I feel like Luffy would also be thankful that his dad was there to see him off.
Now that we know dragon actually does care about Luffy quite a bit the entire narrative of the relationship is drastically different than we used to think. Luffy doesn't particularly care but he gets super attached to anyone who feeds him so if dragon is just like hey buddy I can actually talk to you now without making your life worse, let me treat you to lunch. Luffy will already like him for the lunch.
I can see luffy and dragon (and maybe garp? If oda doesnt kill him soon) meeting in the middle of the war and not even having time to have a reunion😂and just having to fight together on the spot, fucking up imu or something
Man I am so excited to wait another 500 chapters to see Dragon standing there looking out at nothing menacingly! Honestly I wonder what Oda will pull out to meet the astronomical expectations on Dragon. It has literally been over 1100 chapters and he has done NOTHING even Shanks, Garp, the Gorosei and IMU! has done more then him. It’s Oda so he has to have cooked up some Sanji level meal for this one.
The big twist is that Dragon is never going to show up in the present timeline. He will just build and build the expectations and then the story will end.
It's an interesting dynamic. Most children who grow up with one or no parents get envious and emotionally damaged because they see their peers having a set of loving parents. The normalcy of having two parents makes these kids feel as an outcast. Luffy was raised in an environment where we see nobody having a set of parents and luffy's two peers both have no parents to speak off, as far as Luffy knows. He never sees the two parent - child dynamic so he simply doesn't know what he's missing.
You forgot something big Tekking...Robin was with Dragon for almost two years! If he wanted to write Luffy a letter or something, he could have but chose not to communicate. I believe that is because Dragon knows that Luffy is much more like Garp in his personality and valuing personal freedom. Dragon gave up all his freedom for his cause, meanwhile Luffy values nothing more than personal freedom, especially his own.
I can see Luffy and Dragons reunion being something about Robin, he asks her who it is and when she reveals it’s leader of the revolutionary army Dragon. Liffey gets the cool shining eyes that he’s seeing a celebrity then calls out to him and thanks him for taking care of sabo. Perhaps if Bonny is still with the crew at this point he’ll talk to her about what a great man Kim’s was
I like to think that Garp sat down with Dragon like you said and explained how the world works. The Marines aren’t the BAD guys, it’s the Celestial Dragons. The Marines, in my opinion, are bad only because each individual follows their own “Justice” which isn’t how a police force should work. Like what if a Marine followed absolute justice to such an extent to unalive someone who shoplifts like a bottle of beer or something. It’s especially not safe in our world where imagine each cop handled everything their own way instead of following certain rules (>_>) He explained that he didn’t like the way the MARINES were being organized and he’s not trying to abolish the Marines. Dragon may have noticed that the problem goes WAAY up to the top and figure that it’s better to form a better government than to follow one that destroys its people. Dragon is “True Justice” or “Better Justice”
At the same time it's hard and understandable that Luffy doesn't care about Dragon. He grew up without his father and Garp, sabo , ace took Dragon's place, plus he had makino and dadan, so Luffy didn't feel abandoned or alone like before he met his brothers. Then, at 17, he learned that he had a father, followed by 2 years of training in which he had no access to any information, and resumed his journey at 19. After so many years, it's hard for anyone to care about and love a father who suddenly appears after growing up without him. I don't expect to be moved by Luffy and Dragon's reunion, but Luffy is serious when he talks about his father, so maybe it won't just be funny scenes between the 2 of them.
Uta makes her introduction in silhouette when shanks says “are you that afraid of the new generation” or something. Meaning uta was also a threat the government wanted to snuff out so she had to have had some impact in the world but prob not to the scale of red
My luffy dragon first meet fanfic is that hes in a room with sabo and ivankov in it and luffy is super warm and happy about reuniting with the two of them and then a page or two later looks at dragon and says "oh i guess youre my dad huh" and them immediately goes back to talking to ivankov
Luffy's ideal bonding moments tend to be activities and making memories together, so Luffy inviting Dragon to eat and drink with his crew, and then if Dragon and Luffy trained together, like Luffy went into Gear 5th and Dragon showed him a few techniques or strategies similar to how Releigh trained him, I feel like Luffy would appreciate that more than any conversation they had.
Based on what Dragon said when Kuma left (people must live without regrets) I expect Dragon's outlook to be pretty similar to Luffy's, i.e. everyone has to be free to pursue their own dreams, even if it's dangerous, but also willing to die for each other. Although it might be kind of one sided since Luffy doesn't know Dragon lol.
I think in some ways Dragon has a similar outlook to Luffy, but in otherways it is very different. Dragon recognizes that Luffy is his weakness and that if they were to capture Luffy, Dragon would give up everything for him. Luffy would do something similar but in a very different way. Luffy's also a lot more selfish in mindset than Dragon so that also changes his outlook. Dragon probably just wants what's best for Luffy. If that had led Luffy back to the RA, he might have been happy, but he also might not have as Luffy would be giving up his life to the cause very similar to how he has. He actually probably is happy with Luffy's path.
I would love if luffy started saying these things, and Dragon just pulls out a den den mushi and calls Garp, just to say "What the actual hell did you do to this child?"
Side thought: Dragon leaving the marines probably lead to the (by Garp and co.) creation S.W.O.R.D. Also, Garp acknowledged Luffy's strength at Water 7 by telling him, in the audience of marines, that Dragon is his father.
Dragon did say they were going to meet so I'm sure we'll get something between them eventually It would be great to bring bonney along on top of iva chan and Saul so we get a full circle of everyone's relationship with the revolutionary army
I'm not sure if I'm correct here but I think there's a common misconception about Dragon. No one except Garp and very high ranked officers of the marines knew Dragon's full name. That's why all the marines were shocked when Garp revealed Dragon's full name during post Enies Lobby arc and when Sengoku revealed it to the world during the Marineford War. Tl:dr No, Luffy would not have known Dragon was his father until Garp told him about it.
I think what most marines think is that even if they dislike Celestial Dragons and want to change the hierarchy of the World Government, they cannot do anything. Eventually, they decide to do whatever good they can and hopefully outweigh the effects of oppression and pessimism. Dragon decided he will not be a bystander but he is the only one who is succeeding. He is a bit like Luffy where he does not care about what is going on everywhere else and does not accept defeat and apathy. I agree with you that Luffy would not make a big deal of meeting Dragon but I think Luffy knows the gravity of meeting his father for the first time. He is not going to ignore him. Despite not having any connection with him, he may have a long conversation with him because he realises it is a rare opportunity and he is supposed to say something.
Luffy will think of his dad as an awesome guy. He saved Sabo, and is connected to Iva and Kuma. Unlike Garp, Dragon approves of Luffy's dream. Also, his running a badass operation.
Honestly i would love to see a interaction between Coby and Sabo. Coby the marine who is like a son to garp, Sabo the second in command of dragon, both having close relationships with Luffy, big upstarts in their respective organizations, also Coby knowing that he is Luffys brother yet a revolutionary. an enemy of the government im curious to see how he would react to him
i distinctly remember either robin, nami or franky saying something about ace at the return to sabaody and luffy brushed it off saying "oh yeah thanks im fine now"
What if Dragon is secretly a super doting father? Like it's revealed that he has a secret locked room in the revolutionaries base that is revealed to be full of pictures and newspaper clippings about Luffy's journey. Imagine when they got the paper declaring Luffy one of the new yonko while in front of the other revolutionaries Dragon maintains his stoicism, but then he takes one of the papers and goes into his room and just gushes over how cool Luffy is.
There are so many things to consider with Luffy; he's incredibly insightful when it comes to people's reasoning. I can see them bonding over Sabo, and eventually, I can also see him being inquisitive about his own mother. Maybe it will take them meeting to get some exposition about it. It's interesting to note Luffy's carefree attitude, but we also have to take into account their connections: Ivankov, Kuma, now Vegapunk, Garp, and then you gotta add in Robin, who spent time with them , jimbe with koala, sanji, there are so many ties. Beyond the Red Hair Pirates, I can see some great exposition from the Revolutionaries as an organization in Luffy's life. So many questions that Dragon can answer. Of all people, I see red flags on Dragon because he's such a mystery. But also, how he actually cared about his son despite being the leader of the Revs. If anything, I would love to see some characterization from Luffy since he understands why Sabo is part of the Revs.
I can imagine Luffy doesn't care much about his biological father, though Dragon saved Sabi back then. This could be a connection point for a conversation between father and son. And just like you mentionend it, Tekking-kun, they could share stories about Garp. I also could imagine Dragon, being a bit nervous how to approach his son. That would be cute. Dragon cares for Luffy and I'm happy about it.❤
I don't think Dragon is exactly a... bad dad. He's not, he left Luffy with a nice village hidden away, he didn't leave him to die. He loves his kid, he knows just how PAINFUL loss of family and loved ones is given his stoic silence and understanding and trust of Kuma. Dragon's an absent dad because he wants Luffy to be as FAR away from a Revolutionary leader as can be. Luffy just... manages to get himself into trouble.
He probably did more than just left Luffy in a nice village hidden away. There had to have been some backroom deal, considering that Garp raised Luffy and the *fleet admiral of the marine* was aware of the whole family tree. But even with that knowledge, Sengoku did nothing and kept the secret until Marineford.
That doesn't make him a good dad. If he wanted to be a good dad he would have stayed with Luffy and quit the army like kuma did. He wanted to be a good army leader so he left his kid behind. Big difference
@@kevinfoltz9777 He went for not being a hypocrite, basically. He stood for what he preached instead of behaving differently just because this time it was about him. Which isn't better or worse, just his choice.
I think Oda based the hunt for Rogers's child on a bible story called "The Massacre of the Innocents", which King Herod did when he tried to murder baby Jesus. Also, I always thought of Skypia as containing the entire plot of One Piece in miniature. I think that Dragon is similar to Wiper and that when Dragon and Luffy meet they will have to have a little bit of a skirmish due to seemingly conflicting goals but will ultimately end up as allies.
I honestly hope they have a practice bout. They'd have othing to talk about, so testing each other's strength would be more useful if they are to be allies. Plus, it gives us a chance to see how Dragon stands up to his son power wise, something the fans have been longing for for a long time.
I'd like to imagine everytime Garp throws Luffy in dangerous situations as a kid if Dragon has some wind power he just uses the wind to guide Luffy a little and with the balloons he'd make sure he doesn't get blown away to another island haha
If Luffy were asked if he wanted to hear about his mom, his response would probably be "I have a mom?!" Just like his "I have a dad?" question when Dragon was first mentioned to him. But then he might be mildly interested in at least knowing her identity.
Yo good video tekking. Honestly I can just see dragon saying a few words to luffy like, you have become a fine man son, then I think luffy would just smile and introduce his crew to dragon and go talk to sabo. Then his crew would be the ones talking with dragon.
Somehow, I think it would be appropriate, just like Garp never refers to Dragon as his son but rather (when speaking to Luffy) as "your father," if Dragon speaks of Garp not as his own father but instead as "your grandfather." I think it would fit perfectly with the established family dynamic they all seem to share.
I know he would never read a newspaper but I like to imagine once Robin explains to him like science fiction or like something that would catch luffy's eye but in terms of a book he might actually read it because he can read he just chooses not to but I like to imagine he'd be a big Percy Jackson fan
Luffy’s reaction to Ace’s death can’t really be a fault of his ability to process emotion. His brother got a hole punched in him and fell in his arms, then died. No matter how emotionally mature you are, dealing with that would fuck you up
It’s really interesting, Luffy usually lives as a total airhead; if the discussion is boring, he’ll usually lose interest pretty quickly. This is the main reason why he doesn’t pry, because it’s usually boring. But he’s got great EMOTIONAL intelligence; if someone is pouring out their heart to him, he’ll remember their story, stop mixing up their name with other people’s names 🤣 and he’ll walk through hell for them if they need help. So if Dragon can bring himself to bare his soul to his son, Luffy would listen, and we could have a really beautiful scene culminating in something like the scenario I headcanoned in my other comment.
Iva: "Why not say something to your boy?" Dragon: "I literally don't know what to say to him." Iva, with meat in hand: "Here." Dragon: "...What am I supposed to do with this?" Iva: "Walk up to him and find out."
Luffy: So your my dad? That’s neat. (Wolfing down a mountain of food) Dragon: Indeed. I’ve been working tirelessly to dismantle the world government. Something I’m certain you understand quite well. (Also wolfing down a mountain of food) Luffy: Oh yeah, they’re assholes! Gonna bust a ton of heads after what they did to Robin, Old Man Punk, Kuma and Boggey! (Still shuffling food) Dragon: That’s good to hear. We’re on the same page at least. I can’t imagine you have a solid plan, so I’ll just ask you to target a specific place and do your thing. (Also continuing to shovel food) Luffy: Wanna go to Elbaf. (Still eating) Dragon: Works out, that’s where I needed you to go. (Also still eating) Nobody can understand them because of how violently they’re eating next to each other, and everyone now understands just how these two are father and son.
If garp really is dead then I want the arc where they fight the blackbeards to be one where luffy and dragon team up to spin the block for the OG monkey D. you get what I’m saying ?
Long time listener first time commenter. Man that part Dragon immitation accidently saying the scars on the back are a swordsmen shame killed me. Thanks for making me laugh all these years Tekking.
If dragons goal was for luffy to live the way he is, and his actions took part in luffy turning out the way he did, then you can at least say dragon is a successful father.
The thing Dragon still needs to answer for is he chose to become a parent after committing to the cause, supposedly knowing he wouldn’t be there to raise that child down the line. So, bad person? No. Bad dad? Yes. Totally good person? No he’s got flaws All that said one thing I’m interested to know is how Dragon views his son, his life as a pirate, and his “achievements” or “fiascos” depending on if he views events positively vs negatively
11:20 I can picture the scene now… Dragon: “I’m… I’m sorry. Im sorry I couldn’t be there for you all this time.” Luffy: “It’s fine, don’t worry about it. Wanna come meet my friends?” Dragon pauses a moment, maybe we insert a silent flashback of some moments of him secretly checking on Luffy from early childhood until sending him off at Logtown. Then, a rare smile briefly passes across his face. “…Yes. Yes, I’d like to meet these friends of yours.” *with gentle emotional music in the background* (I mean he knows Robin but he hasn’t met the rest of them.)
I dont think dragon just saw luffy off at loguetown i think he specificly went there bcs he knew luffy would be there after arlong park luffy's name became widespread i have no doubt dragon saw that first bounty read how/where he got it and proberly also heard about the pirate wall aka smoker in loguetown so he went there to make sure luffy made it through in one piece Edit: as for uta she is easierly intergrated keep it like the movie but during tot musicas first rampage when she was a kid she died as well
I think a good way to explain why Kuma figured out Dragon's son is because kuma is a thoughtful person and very observant, while ivankov is like luffy not at all
i disagree that dragon was a bad dad, to a normal kid he would be, but dragon was a good dad to luffy, as luffy works best learning on his own, and being free to do what he wants, which is what dragon gave him by being absent
I imagine mentally Dragon has sort of surrendered his desire to be there for his son. He wasn't there to raise him really so he doesn't get to be "Dad" suddenly.
I don’t think Dragon is a bad dad, slightly neglectful but not a bad dad. He couldn’t give Luffy the life he deserved while running an entire revolutionary group. I think he did his best to make sure Luffy had a future if the revolution failed and that’s why he dropped him off to Garp. He knew that if he died Garp would protect Luffy from the government wrath. I also feel the fact that Dragon check on Luffy consistently shows he cares and I think that is who he thinks of when he looks at the East. I think he will start telling Luffy about his mom and about him and Luffy will checked out and then Robin and the other Straw Hats will just sit down and listen to the story time and Luffy might say something like “my mom was the freest person then” and smile
Personally, my theory/headcanon regarding Uta is that her story in canon diverges from Film: Red when Shanks offered to let her stay on Elegia and pick her up when she became a great singer. In Film: Red Uta reacts negatively and begs to stay with Shanks and the Red-Haired Pirates, I hypothesize that in canon she accepts his offer, and is thus still on Elegia training with Gordon. Also, there's no Tot Musica, so Elegia isn't destroyed, the citizens are still alive, and thus canon Uta grows up to be a lot more well-adjusted compared to Film: Red Uta.
I wonder what would happend if Dragon never created the Revolution Army? Would he still work as a Marine if he did, and would he stay or resign and live with his son and wife, and how would that affect Luffy and the world?
I also grew up without a father; and if I ever were to meet him, I think that it would be pretty akward at first. I guess we'd probably just catch up on our lives, and then who knows. The difference is that, I'm not Luffy. So taking his personality into account, it'll be very interesting to see how Oda will handle their encounter. Maybe Dragon has a goofier side that both of them can relate to, who knows! I'm looking forward to it. I predict that it will happen after Elbaf, since Sabo still needs to relay Cobra's message to Luffy and to Vivi. Also don't feel bad for me, I've never felt sad over this!
I think there meeting is going to mirror Luffy and Grap meeting in Water 7. Luffy will see Dragon, it will take a beat for him to realize it's his dad, he will attack and yell about Grap throwing him in the woods and all the other stuff he did, like "do you realize what Gramps did to me?" Dragon will defend himself saying "He did the same to me!!" then they will fall asleep mid fight and we'll jump to them eating and just being themselves. No questions just hanging out. It will take the crew to ask questions.
I want to see Luffy, Dragon, and Garp hit a combo punch on someone, or at least be shown hitting someone in their respective fights with the panels shown side by side. Three generations of the Monkey family, fighting for true freedom in the final battle!
Actually Luffy telling Dragon about Garp training and Dragon saying it seems the old man got a weak spot for you. Now let me tell you about my training with him :P
14:50 I just had a laughflash.... The one question Luffy asks literally EVERYONE... How funny would it be if Dragon is the first and only one to actually answer him... Especially with some line like... Same habit as your motherlanguage... And then answering in a serious manner... 😂😂😂
As much as Dragon might have an embarrassing moment meeting Luffy after all those years, you know, being flustered and all, I have the impression that the Monkey D. family doesn't have it in their heritage factor to feel embarrassed or flustered.
Honestly I think one of the first things Luffy would do when meeting Dragon is thank him for saving Sabo

Kol probably
Oda *is* saving the world. Forgiven.
Bro I would love seeing Dragon have a goofy side

I thought that nobody in the public knew Dragon’s family name until Garp revealed it at Water 7
That's true. Tekking just didn't remember that small piece of detail
btw tekking, TCB's translation for the Kuma/Dragon boat scene are a bit sus, the official translation is pretty different as it instead shows that Kuma saw that Dragon was routinely hanging around a foosha village watching a specific child rather than Kuma stumbling across Luffy and somehow deducing he's Dragon's kid
Don't forget about Sabo, he'd be a great in-between for Luffy and Dragon!
Robin as well since she probably spend alot of time with him in the 2 year time skip
Wasn’t Dragon’s full name a secret? Otherwise everyone would connect the dots immediately to Luffy. Same for Garp actually, did the world forget Garp’s surname?
The Gorosei probably forced the D. being dropped off in Newspapers so people wouldn’t get behind it as a Symbol to Believe In
It is more like oda just added these things later
Maybe monkey D is like the smith or White of the one piece world
@@alihordanah man i mean that might be the original reason but i feel like once he had it all mapped out that thats the canonical reason cuz we only ever have seen 3 Monkey D. And 2 are globally known
@@ayke9288 I'm pretty sure he had a start, Ending and some storyline in mind but just filling up things on the way
Dragon and Robin probably share a similar dynamic spending time together, and I feel like she may know how dragon feels on a personal level.
Exactly!!!
This.
If dragon feeds Luffy hes then got his ultimate trump card against the world government 😂
"You know what son? Come with me. I'll treat you to some Wendy's." "Yay! Food!"
@darkusinferno9482 not Wendy's, mor like Mawkinos
I'm imagining dragon shaking a huge plate of food like how one shakes keys at a toddler
Don’t worry Oda will deliver
Fr😂at this point i just want the final war to start so he has to get up and do shit already
The big twist is that Dragon is never going to show up in the present timeline. He will just build and build the expectations and then the story will end.

🤣🤣🤣
It's an interesting dynamic. Most children who grow up with one or no parents get envious and emotionally damaged because they see their peers having a set of loving parents. The normalcy of having two parents makes these kids feel as an outcast.
Luffy was raised in an environment where we see nobody having a set of parents and luffy's two peers both have no parents to speak off, as far as Luffy knows. He never sees the two parent - child dynamic so he simply doesn't know what he's missing.
I wouldn't even be too surprised if Luffy doesn't remember who Dragon is from the last time they talked about him
You forgot something big Tekking...Robin was with Dragon for almost two years! If he wanted to write Luffy a letter or something, he could have but chose not to communicate. I believe that is because Dragon knows that Luffy is much more like Garp in his personality and valuing personal freedom. Dragon gave up all his freedom for his cause, meanwhile Luffy values nothing more than personal freedom, especially his own.
we should get filler/flashback when robin was with RA
I can see Luffy and Dragons reunion being something about Robin, he asks her who it is and when she reveals it’s leader of the revolutionary army Dragon. Liffey gets the cool shining eyes that he’s seeing a celebrity then calls out to him and thanks him for taking care of sabo. Perhaps if Bonny is still with the crew at this point he’ll talk to her about what a great man Kim’s was
I honestly can see Luffy being serious with his dad and ask him deep questions just because it’s his dad.
I can see the straw hats asking dragon all the questions we would expect luffy to ask
I would love if luffy started saying these things, and Dragon just pulls out a den den mushi and calls Garp, just to say "What the actual hell did you do to this child?"
Garp: I was just making him into a good marine! But unfortunately he got his rebellious nature from you!
Dragon: Yeah thats my dad for ya, he's an asshole.
*looks down & cries in despair at realizing he just hurt his own feelings because he's one too.*
Side thought: Dragon leaving the marines probably lead to the (by Garp and co.) creation S.W.O.R.D. Also, Garp acknowledged Luffy's strength at Water 7 by telling him, in the audience of marines, that Dragon is his father.
Dragon did say they were going to meet so I'm sure we'll get something between them eventually
It would be great to bring bonney along on top of iva chan and Saul so we get a full circle of everyone's relationship with the revolutionary army
And Jimbie will be there for Koala, Luffy and Sabo, Saul and Robin, Iva and Bonney... That'd be a great get together
As someone who is studying to be a therapist can confirm luffy would in fact be a field day.
Luffy will think of his dad as an awesome guy. He saved Sabo, and is connected to Iva and Kuma. Unlike Garp, Dragon approves of Luffy's dream. Also, his running a badass operation.
Honestly i would love to see a interaction between Coby and Sabo. Coby the marine who is like a son to garp, Sabo the second in command of dragon, both having close relationships with Luffy, big upstarts in their respective organizations, also Coby knowing that he is Luffys brother yet a revolutionary. an enemy of the government im curious to see how he would react to him
Luffy : hey dad, were you also raised by grandpa's fist of love?
Dragon : Yes, this is why I became a revolutionary
I could see this thrown into conversation between them while having meals together 😂
i distinctly remember either robin, nami or franky saying something about ace at the return to sabaody and luffy brushed it off saying "oh yeah thanks im fine now"
What if Dragon is secretly a super doting father? Like it's revealed that he has a secret locked room in the revolutionaries base that is revealed to be full of pictures and newspaper clippings about Luffy's journey. Imagine when they got the paper declaring Luffy one of the new yonko while in front of the other revolutionaries Dragon maintains his stoicism, but then he takes one of the papers and goes into his room and just gushes over how cool Luffy is.
That would actually be funny and adorable 😂
Thank you for the video! I always enjoy watching your videos! This video was super fun! I would love to see Dragon & Luffy meet & talk someday!
I bet the moment they meet will just be
"Hi, Dad"
"Hi, Son"
"*Everyone's shocked and outraged reactions to their casualness*"
He abandoned Luffy in the middle of the forest among wild animals... Just... He did it through Garp lol
@@Ryzen776 Sengoku couldn't lose the biggest hero the marine ever had, he kept quiet until he couldn't anymore
Then Dragon would thank the crew for looking out for his son therefore paralleling Sabo and Ace
@frostqueen056 that would be dope as hell. Need to see that now happen in some sort of way like that
Your a great you tuber tekking you deserve millions of subs and I’m not just saying that because I’m drunk
Dragon does call Dragon his son, it just depends on who he's talking too.
You reminded me of Whitebeard's face when Ace got out of the smoke.
I know he would never read a newspaper but I like to imagine once Robin explains to him like science fiction or like something that would catch luffy's eye but in terms of a book he might actually read it because he can read he just chooses not to but I like to imagine he'd be a big Percy Jackson fan
Dragon: hello Luffy, I'm your father.
Luffy: Yo
Luffy’s reaction to Ace’s death can’t really be a fault of his ability to process emotion. His brother got a hole punched in him and fell in his arms, then died. No matter how emotionally mature you are, dealing with that would fuck you up
That's true and Luffy didn't have enough time to properly grieve. He was thrown into training not long after he woke up from his mini coma.
dragon is on of my fav characters, hopefully he actually does something for once soon 🙏
Same he's also one of my favs. I wanna see more of him.
I think the biggest thing you missed is mentioning inherited will. Since that is a major theme of one piece.
I don’t think it was public knowledge that Dragon’s full name was Monkey D. Dragon before Marineford.
Basically severe ADD + moderate ASD traits
😂😂I was actually thinking about Gon too when he made that joke😅😅
Iva: "Why not say something to your boy?"
Dragon: "I literally don't know what to say to him."
Iva, with meat in hand: "Here."
Dragon: "...What am I supposed to do with this?"
Iva: "Walk up to him and find out."
Jinbe with the "Best Dad" mug doing the monkey glance meme while Dragon awkwardly lurks.
"Hey dad... I've been meaning to ask... You gonna finish that?" 🍖
Luffy: So your my dad? That’s neat. (Wolfing down a mountain of food)
Dragon: Indeed. I’ve been working tirelessly to dismantle the world government. Something I’m certain you understand quite well. (Also wolfing down a mountain of food)
Luffy: Oh yeah, they’re assholes! Gonna bust a ton of heads after what they did to Robin, Old Man Punk, Kuma and Boggey! (Still shuffling food)
Dragon: That’s good to hear. We’re on the same page at least. I can’t imagine you have a solid plan, so I’ll just ask you to target a specific place and do your thing. (Also continuing to shovel food)
Luffy: Wanna go to Elbaf. (Still eating)
Dragon: Works out, that’s where I needed you to go. (Also still eating)
Nobody can understand them because of how violently they’re eating next to each other, and everyone now understands just how these two are father and son.
I think luffy would react to learning about his mom the same way he did when Garp told him about his dad in Enies Lobby. Like "I have a mom?"
The only correct answer 😂
I feel like oda would blue ball us and just have them stare at eachother and nod in approval while preparing to fight bad guys
My old man passed away earlier this year. Cats and the cradle was always a sad song and it hits even harder now. Fitting for the video though.
Keep up the awesome work and videos tekking love the video
The thing Dragon still needs to answer for is he chose to become a parent after committing to the cause, supposedly knowing he wouldn’t be there to raise that child down the line. So, bad person? No. Bad dad? Yes. Totally good person? No he’s got flaws
All that said one thing I’m interested to know is how Dragon views his son, his life as a pirate, and his “achievements” or “fiascos” depending on if he views events positively vs negatively
Well ya know how some people do the devil's tango and accidently make a baby? Yeah that was probably what happened. Luffy was probably an accident.
11:20 I can picture the scene now…
Dragon: “I’m… I’m sorry. Im sorry I couldn’t be there for you all this time.”
Luffy: “It’s fine, don’t worry about it. Wanna come meet my friends?”
Dragon pauses a moment, maybe we insert a silent flashback of some moments of him secretly checking on Luffy from early childhood until sending him off at Logtown. Then, a rare smile briefly passes across his face. “…Yes. Yes, I’d like to meet these friends of yours.” *with gentle emotional music in the background* (I mean he knows Robin but he hasn’t met the rest of them.)
I dont think dragon just saw luffy off at loguetown i think he specificly went there bcs he knew luffy would be there after arlong park luffy's name became widespread i have no doubt dragon saw that first bounty read how/where he got it and proberly also heard about the pirate wall aka smoker in loguetown so he went there to make sure luffy made it through in one piece
Edit: as for uta she is easierly intergrated keep it like the movie but during tot musicas first rampage when she was a kid she died as well
I think a good way to explain why Kuma figured out Dragon's son is because kuma is a thoughtful person and very observant, while ivankov is like luffy not at all
i disagree that dragon was a bad dad, to a normal kid he would be, but dragon was a good dad to luffy, as luffy works best learning on his own, and being free to do what he wants, which is what dragon gave him by being absent
I imagine mentally Dragon has sort of surrendered his desire to be there for his son. He wasn't there to raise him really so he doesn't get to be "Dad" suddenly.
I think Luffy will be very happy
Exactly
Plot twist: Dragon is the Pandaman and he is there looking up for Luffy at every chance he can.
Luffy is like a monkey in more ways than one.
Ayo tekking delivering a video right when i need it! 10/10
"Hey, dad, do you poop?" "Well, I can break wind" 😂😂😂😂
They wouldn’t show Dragons full name in the newspaper
I think there meeting is going to mirror Luffy and Grap meeting in Water 7. Luffy will see Dragon, it will take a beat for him to realize it's his dad, he will attack and yell about Grap throwing him in the woods and all the other stuff he did, like "do you realize what Gramps did to me?" Dragon will defend himself saying "He did the same to me!!" then they will fall asleep mid fight and we'll jump to them eating and just being themselves. No questions just hanging out. It will take the crew to ask questions.
Not very likely but it would be funny if that's how it'll go 🤣
I want to see Luffy, Dragon, and Garp hit a combo punch on someone, or at least be shown hitting someone in their respective fights with the panels shown side by side. Three generations of the Monkey family, fighting for true freedom in the final battle!
"You heard about Monkey D's, antagonist?"
"Monkey D's?"
"MONKEY DEEZ NUTS"
as they do the generational fist of love or some shit.
