@@VFXforfilm Nice tutorial, is it possible to paint with the stencil while it is still visible? Rather than when you start painting it disappears until you stop.
After several days of looking for a process that works evenly to place a colored logo on a rounded surface your MATERIAL STAMP process (13:13) finally accomplished what I was looking for! The other two methods, Paint and Projection didn't work to put the decal on the perimeter as it rounded off. The image trailed like a gradient. Thank you!
I had to change a texture set in 3DS MAX and when I tried Material Stamp again nothing appears when using the mouse to project! The stamp appears on screen but when I click and drag...nothing.
This tutorial is amazing!! THANK YOU!! i used to be a texture artist but time changes and when you come back to things nothing is familiar :) this was very helpful
@@VFXforfilm sorry, im a graffiti nerd. theres a sticker of "made u look", a well known artist that you took a flick (picture) of. I really appreciate the vid, it helped me a bunch already
This looks great in Substance Painter but when i attempt to use the vmask i created (as a game asset) the decal is not showing up. What would be the issue? Do I need to 1)export as fbx. 2) import fbx into Blender and bake the texture in Blender 3)export as the appropriate 3d file type for my game and then it will show up?
is there a preferred image size for each kind of these maps to be made on in photoshop? or is it just dependent on what kind of res you're looking to go for? like a 1024x1024 for alphas, 2048x2048 for stamps and so on.
Chris Castro how much rez. What I find important is it plays a big factor in height/normal map when up scaling or downscaling on export from substance painter. Depending on resolution bumps can have too much frequency depending on resolution and height scale.
Chris Castro I went into an interview to work there. Very arrogant and jaded faculty. Glad they didn’t hire me. We did a collaboration with them back in the day (Thrill Ride).
Chris Castro Nope, I don’t like their work ethics so I’m sticking with my own website. They’re ALWAYS cheating the authors by running ridiculous sales like 75% off etc.. Honestly I wish I never posted there.Laborer is worthy of his wages as the good book says.
francisco nikotian set the normal layer (normal dropdown) your painting on to either replace (try different Compositing modes). Depends on the normal data’s height underneath.
it was the best stamps tutorial Ever
The go to tutorial for using decals

amazing video so clear and easy to follow thank you!

Thank you sir, this tutorial was indeed helpful!
yup ;)
In projection mode my brush ignores the decal's normal information and just paints in normals. Base color, height, roughness all seem to be working.
Perfect tutorial. Thanks so much for this. Subscribed

You are awesome! Thank you for this detailed tutorial!
Arcadeous Phoenix Glad it helped ;)
Thank you!
Thanks dude.
Thankyou for this, I've realised I just need to import a texture sheet and use projection and now it seems obvious ha!
Pure gold!

Thanks a lot! By the way - on 3:20 you needed to do Layer -> Merge Visible
Awesome
Glad to help, substance is awesome.
thanks for the great tutorial man!!! It's not confusing at all! Keep up the good work!!
Dang Khoa Tran Thanks.
Great video
Very useful! Thanks!
Was there not a hotkey for temporarily hide the stencile so you can see what your doing?
Yes, but why the bloody brush gets stretched when conecting to base color?
awesome, helped.

Sorry, don't know blender pipeline. This is an old video, new updates might conflict with what I said.
how come i cant see the Decal pre-view on my brush its Emtpy look untill i paint it on the Model then i keep having to Undo to adjust it
check your stencil opacity in the settings (top right)
Flatten image won't preserve transparency in PS. You have to use "Merge Visible". Cool video.
10:52 what is the shortcut for making your brush harder

thx bro
You could merge visible on those photoshop layers
the normal in the projection is eating the other normal, even with alpha. does this happen always?
francisco nikotian set the normal layer (normal dropdown) your painting on to either replace (try different Compositing modes). Depends on the normal data’s height underneath.
Ok so what you are saying is that aliens do exist?
hard way, taking a lot of time for prepare in photoshop etc. We have better way to solve this problem
And that way is……..
