A classic from a different time, and a treasure that shall last forever. Let the younger generation listen and enjoy this old school tune, from a unique and valuable time, when life was simpler.

The Spinners in their Motown days. But like the Isley Brothers and Gladys Knight & the Pips, they never got enough attention and left Motown to reach greater success elsewhere..

This song would have been a "Monster Hit" had Motown promoted it. I rank it right up there with I'll be Around. Featuring the great "Bobby Smith" on lead vocals. A great, great song.

Bobby Smith was a highly under-rated and under-appreciated lead singer for The Spinners. He never got the recognition due him like Philipe Wynne, John Edwards or even G C Cameron. Bobby was so smooth and yet such a skilled vocalist. RIP.....Bobby Smith.

TRUTH BE TOLD, ALL NITE, & YEAR LONG! GOD BLESS THE SPINNERS.🙏 GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE...🙏😇🙏

Out of the 7 million-selling hit singles THE SPINNERS recorded, BOBBY SMITH sang lead on FOUR: “I’LL BE AROUND”, “COULD IT BE I’M FALLING IN LOVE”, “GAMES PEOPLE PLAY” and “THEN CAME YOU.” Philippe Wynne only led on TWO: “RUBBERBAND MAN” and “ONE OF A KIND LOVE AFFAIR.” (JOHN EDWARDS LED ON ONE: “WORKING MY WAY BACK TO YOU”) BOBBY also led on the group’s VERY FIRST Single, “THAT’S WHAT GIRLS ARE MADE FOR” in 1961, and on the group’s Motown hits, “TRULY YOURS” and “I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU.” so, BOBBY SMITH IS the VOICE of THE SPINNERS .

I can't get enough of this song either - was not aware they had this extended version - like s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much - then I only need to play it over 1/2 as much - haha . Went to the Motown Hitsville about 25 years ago - very impressed with it. Did not realize the main room where they recorded was smaller and seemed premative in comparison to what I envisioned. But glad they have preserved it like is was. It was great! I would like to go back again. Has anyone reading this been there?

@Freddie Brown but he kept them around. I heard also that there was tension with Harvey Fuqua because he was married to Berry Gordy sister Gwen. The great Thom Bell said he picked the Spinners to work with from a long list of artists specifically because of Bobbie Smith’s voice.

@@dancingnature BOBBY was the Original lead singer of the Spinners from day one.He led on the group’s very first hit in 1961 : “THAT’S WHAT GIRLS ARE MADE FOR”. He led on their hit, TOO YOUNG TOO MUCH TOO SOON, a year or so later. He led on their Motown hits, TRULY YOURS and I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. BOBBY also led on The Spinners’ FIRST MILLION SELLER, I’LL BE AROUND. their SECOND MILLION SELLER, COULD IT BE I’M FALLING IN LOVE, THEIR FOURTH MILLION SELLER , THEN CAME YOU, (with Dionne Warwick) & Their FIFTH MILLION SELLER, GAMES PEOPLE PLAY. In fact , of the SEVEN RIAA CERTIFIED MILLION SELLERS the SPINNERS made, BOBBY SMITH led on FOUR. WYNNE led on only TWO, (ONE OF A KIND and RUBBERBAND MAN) , and JOHN EDWARDS led on one, “CUPID/I’VE LOVED YOU FOR A LONG TIME”. Thom Bell actually said that he signed to work with The Spinners , because of Bobby’s exceptional phrasing of songs.ruclips.net/video/XIQz3WbJpDQ/видео.html

On this day in 1966 {July 26th} the Spinners performed "I'll Always Love You" on the Dick Clark produced ABC-TV network weekday-afternoon program 'Where The Action Is'...
Exactly one year earlier on July 26th, 1965 the song was at #50 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; twenty days later on August 15th it would peak at #35 {for 1 week} and it spent 7 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #8 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart and #7 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart...
Between 1961 and 1995 the Detroit quintet had forty records on the Hot R&B Singles chart; seventeen made the Top 10 with six reaching #1, "I'll Be Around" for 5 weeks in 1972, "Could It Be (I'm Falling In Love)" for 1 week in 1973, "One Of A Kind (Love Affair)" for 4 weeks in 1974, "Mighty Love" for 1 week in 1974, "Games People Play" for 1 week in 1975, and "Rubberband Man" for 1 week in 1976...
    Another home run for mosogotam!!!

Hey! would you believe that Berry Gordy personally, himself said that Bobby Smith was not a strong-enough lead singer for The Spinners. Motown didn't really believe in the Spinners talent and ability. That's why they floundered on the label for many years before finally leaving. But, not before their release
    of the smash-breakout hit
"It's a shame" composed and produced by Stevie Wonder. I guess out of respect Motown had to get behind this one for Stevie. I still love-me some early Motown Spinners. "I'll Always Love You".

They were known as The Detroit Spinners back then. I was still in diapers back then, but I keep up on my music trivia.

Bobby Smith would have been a really great lead singer if his skin were lighter , and he looked like Smokey Robinson or Sam Cook. Then with world wide Promotion and Distribution Booby Smith would have captured the attention and respect for his voice and personal charisma. TRULY YOURS. 💏
