We never learn to appreciate the things we have or taught by our parents until we’re old and in their shoes that we learn to appreciate everything they taught us and by then our life is half way over. Back in the old days alcohol was provided as it was the purest form of water they have since water wasn't as clean as it is today. The drinking we do today is just pure egotistic and unnecessary.

I was raised Catholic and married a shaman family. There's certainly a difference in belief system but our culture and traditions are something so beautiful. I hope that we Hmong will continue to embrace our culture, traditions and beliefs and educate each new generation. This is a beautiful story...I cry every time I listen as I have lost both my mom and sister more recently. I know they've found their ways, which ever direction they were supposed to go.

I was always afraid of qeej when I was a kid, (still kinda am lowkey cause I always correlated it with the dead, and ghosts, etc). We only see these being used in funerals and nothing else. My father is a actually a txiv qeej, and he crafts them and tunes them in our basement. I use to be scared to go down there alone. I never understood the importance of this instrument until I got married and learned more about our culture and traditions. This MV helps depict what it means to be a txiv qeej, and their role in our culture, and its beautiful. Thank you for this masterpiece!

Then she got married to someone else probably due to arrange marriage. She grew old and passed on. Her family came to ask him cuz he is the flute guy in the village to play the flute to send her to meet grandma and grandpa in the afterlife as tradition dictate. Though it was very hard and emotional for him cuz she was his sweetheart but he obliged and play his flute and showed her the way in the afterlife to her resting place. I was always afraid of qeej when I was a kid, (still kinda am lowkey cause I always correlated it with the dead, and ghosts, etc). We only see these being used in funerals and nothing else. My father is a actually a txiv qeej, and he crafts them and tunes them in our basement. I use to be scared to go down there alone. I never understood the importance of this instrument until I got married and learned more about our culture and traditions. This MV helps depict what it means to be a txiv qeej, and their role in our culture, and its beautiful.

Story is complicate and I'm no kav xwb but if I have to guess I say it seems they had a beautiful love. He loved her very much, play the bamboo flute for her n dream of a life growing old with her. Then she got married to someone else probably due to arrange marriage. She grew old and passed on. Her family came to ask him cuz he is the flute guy in the village to play the flute to send her to meet grandma and grandpa in the afterlife as tradition dictate. Though it was very hard and emotional for him cuz she was his sweetheart but he obliged and play his flute and showed her the way in the afterlife to her resting place. Then they come to a river where the living cannot cross he bid her farewell n return to the living. The pain of losing your loved one to someone else when you r young n then having to be the one called to her funeral to send her off when she passed is unimaginable. Nyob los tsis sib tau.
