Knowing your equipment, it's strengths and weaknesses and how it reacts to your skin and technique is so important in safety razor and straight razor shaving and you seem to have it down. I can tell as you are excited about your next shave. I've been straight razor shaving since I was 15 and DE safety razor shaving since I've started shaving my head about 25 years ago and as you, totally enjoy shaving. I had a short bout with disposable and electric shaves and nothing impressive there for me. Was looking for a new razor on line and then RUclips started sending razor shaves which I didn't even know existed. Glad you and so many others are into it to the point of making videos. So many levels of experience and expertise expressed in the videos. My Dad was a trained barber in the old country so he taught my brother and I everything that he knew. Thanks Dad! Keep up the great work Rich! Keep enjoying!
    Shine on!

Bro. As someone that's a full-on nerd for physics and geometry, this helped so very much. It's almost like, big-fat-duh bro. Just use the head of the razor as a barrier, and simply push in to pull your skin to the blade. That even teases the hair out further, so you get a closer shave.
I'm betting you. I'd bet you $200,000 in fact; that the head of safety razors are designed to be used in such a way; especially the Futur. Cheers to you, sir.

I got one in the mail today. watched more videos than I care to say about wet shave and de razor selections. Watched this video and made a lot of sense. I am older guy with very sensitive skin, also on blood thinners. So a nick for me would be mount Everest. I decide to make the $13.00 plunge in case I didn't like this kind of shave. Like other vids I was extremely patient, careful and took baby strokes. Started on 3 first pass (feels and sounds scary to be honest), then 2 for side pass and neck, then 1 for final upstroke. Learning curve on the upstroke took a n extra step paying attention to keep your angle right. GREAT NEWS NO CUTS and no irritation like i usually get from 5 blade junk (I can say that now). I put on after shave and NO Burn! p.s. If you are new as I am, the whole shave business took me about 15 minutes start to finish. Best of luck to everyone and thank you RICH! p.s. I used gel shave for sensitive skin and worked like a champ.

20:10. Rich, fantastic video, I was ready to send this razor back after the first shave. Lots of blood. I’m an experienced wet shaver, but wow…what aggression! I like your flat technique, along with the tips you have on this razor, very nice. Thanks RK

another technique I learned too Rich and it came from shaving deceased bodies as an embalmer....leave the razor on the face and your less likely to get razorburn or cause cuts....Ill do a video on my channel and show you what I mean....I learned it from an embalming instructor who said the reason we get razorburn on the decedents then also the brown marks after dehydration is because we constantly pick up the razor like when we shave our own selves.....so I tried this and it works....I do it on the against the grain pass and I never cut myself or get razor burn. I know TMI with my profession LOL but it works....Love your brushes man and your passion for the shave...KEEP THE VIDS coming

Great video! The Futur is one of my favorite razors as well. I've never thought of using it like that on the XTG pass. I'll have to give it a try next time.

Thanks Rich! I’ll have to give that a try with my Futur. I liked your comment about not writing off a razor after trying it once or twice. I have a razor that I didn’t care for much, came back to it later and found that my second opinion was much better. I didn’t like it because I thought it was too mild (Gillette super speed flair tip). The second time I found that while it felt really mild, it was actually doing a great job of mowing through the whiskers. Anxious to try your technique on setting 1 on the Futur

I have this razor with the whole set including the frosted glass bowl. Anyway I just broke my bowl and was looking for a replacement and to my astonishment the bowl alone cost about £70 online. This is crazy it’s worth more then the razor. Anyway I’m just venting now. Be careful with the bowl guys it’s not cheap to replace.

This may be an aggressive razor for the beard because it cuts so well and you get a good feed back while shaving, but it is not all aggressive against the skin. I use it between level 3 and level 4.5 for aggressiveness. It is difficult to cut yourself with this shaver because the so called lower jaw edge extends beyond the blade edge much more than other razors. What exposes the blade edge to the skin for cutting is the angle that you make with the skin as in all razors but more so here. Then it has covers on the two sides that hides the non cutting edges of the blade so you do not accidentally cut yourself. I shave against the grain all, yes all the time and i have no problem with it being so called aggressive. It is a fine piece of engineering and a lot of thought process has gone in to it by the original manufacturer. I own the clone of Futur and I am impressed. I have yet to cut myself with it. I own at least ten different razors and I must have had a little cut or a nick with all of them at sometime when I lost attention while shaving. Not with this one.

Rich I have to say that when I watched this video last night I thought you make have been sniffing a bottle of nail varnish remover that your missus may have left laying around the bathroom 😂😂
I tried your technique nevertheless and OMG it only bloody well works!!!!!
Yes I took a small chunk out of my chin in the process but that’s because I got a little cocky near the end and not down to your technique.
I just can’t believe how well it works and how much kinder it is to my neck area.
Absolute 5 star tip and worked perfectly for me and my face.
Can’t thank you enough for the tip.
Thanks again for sharing, I am officially converted 👍

I only have two razors at the moment. A Parker 99r and a Parker Variant. Would you use the same technique with the Variant ? I seem to prefer the 99r with an Astra blade. I have tried the Derby blades but strangely enough, I sometimes get a good shave and other times I rip my face to pieces. As far as the Variant is concerned, I'm ok with Feather blades on setting 3. Does one decrease the setting as you go from one pass to the next ? Great video as always. Thanks a bunch !

Rich ... I just can not get into fat head razors like this one ... my copy the Ming Shi 2000 just doesn't allow me to get up inside my nose..... so forget it ! Question You have the Wilkenson Gillette I think made in India ... My Wilkinson Blades are the Classic made in Germany I think.... Do you know if there is a difference in shave because the Gillette version is cheaper to purchase.

  • @Anthony-xe5db
    @Anthony-xe5db 5 лет назад +2

There's a way you can lower the aggressiveness of the razor into the lower settings (like a - 6- 1) or in other words lower one set down in aggressive settings. Cincyshaves described it in two videos and I seen others too, and it worked on my razor at least. This is my favorite razor too. Anyhow, start at 2:15 of the video at the end of my comment, and he describes how to dial down past setting 1 and into the -6 - 1 settings which takes one second to do and one second to return to the regular 1-6 settings. ruclips.net/video/w6jS2fCinWk/видео.html and at 16:00 in this video ruclips.net/video/ajxcdovVhIE/видео.html

So, if you are only going to use 1 setting, why not find a razor that suits you, rather than an adjustable one. And as far as I see, going level 6 with this may cause more adrenalin for you than making askydive.

Mustafa Orhan Selçuk because some people shave more than just there face, and other parts of their body have different hair densities, for example my head hair is super thick and needs a setting 4+ to mow it down, otherwise it tugs and pulls, my face hair is less thick and setting One is all I need. The adjustment feature is useful, simple as that.
