      There are actually three songs that are available to the bards to play in BG3 if you have Deluxe Edition: "The Queen's High Seas", "Of Divinity and Sin", and, of course, "Sing for Me"

    While I do love Slavov's work on this game and bg3 I do miss Prokovsky's music from the first game. It was very whimsical. Sadly he passed away though at the same time Slavov's work is great for this game in particular as Original Sin's sequel is more serious, darker and action focused Rally cements the idea that you are on an adventure.

    Rivellon is also placed very aptly in the game, it's in the narrative phase when you FINALLY escape prison island and the big wide world opens up for you, but you're not really free because war is coming, so it's this mix of grandiosity and weariness and hope and incertainty.
    Edit, I believe this plays not when you escape on the ship, but later, when you reach land.

    The way the strings works, Rivellon kind of vaguely reminds me of the island like vibes in Chrono Cross. The flutes are my favorite part though in the piece. Lohse's song at the end of the game is my favorite piece in the entire OST. It doesn't hit quite as hard until you go through the entire journey with her. Incredible game. Incredible music.

    I love the emotional nuance and ambiguity that is in so many of Borislav's best tracks. There's reflection, melancholy, wonder, calm, hope, and resolve all through this piece, and it all blends smoothly, without ever feeling disjointed. Conveying a whole state of mind in a way, rather than just one simple idea.

  • @ItsPureLuck27

  • @Nr4747
    @Nr4747 Месяц назад

    I would argue that the emotion created by the first melody is more of a quiet longing than just peacefulness. Combined with the more exciting 2nd and 3rd melodies, it creates for me a kind of Wanderlust, a longing for distant places and exciting travel adventures, which seems to be fulfilled by the most epic part of the song before almost resolving and then hinting at danger at the end.

    While BG3 surpasses D:OS2 in many things (which is understandable!) and while I love its soundtrack, I still feel like the music in D:OS2 is better and overall feels like Slavov's magnum opus. There are so many great tracks and the interchangeable arrangements for different instruments are such a lovely thing to have in a game. But maybe it's just nostalgia glasses, I loved this game.

    • @Waffersforever

      I can't help but agree; the music in BG3 is so fantastic, but I still find myself missing some of the, I dunno, catchier themes such as this one while wandering around (I'm finishing up Act 3 in BG3 still!). To be fair, even though both games have your teams on that thin line between safety and danger at all time, especially on first playthroughs when you don't know where to go or what to do in what order, the free-roam countryside by Driftwood fits this style of music so so well, whereas the cinematic moments of BG3 have some of the best pieces so far, such as Nightsong. Going to be listening to both OSTs for a very long time.

    I would love to see you react to more DOS2. Dancing with Source is haunting and makes you want to check over your shoulder (Oud is my preferred version), Sing For Me is set beautifully in the story (Lohse comes out victorious against the BBEG for her story and starts singing this), Mead, Gold, and Blood is makes you tense up for a fight, knowing you're strong but it's going to be close.

I didn't really get CRPGs at the time, and when I came back to the series later I decided to start from the beginning (divine divinity is massively underrated btw). But my memory of just those first couple hours remains one of my most treasured gaming experiences ever- it left an incredible impression, and the main theme makes me teary to this day. There's a real sense of magic to the experience, something that's incredibly hard to capture.

    this game was such a blast to play. and it had one of the best pay offs for a character. Because lohse, the playable bard, has her own song, "sing for me". But if you try to play a song with her in the game, the "visitor" inside of her stops you from playing, apparently not enjoying music. But if you manage to pull through and defeat the "visitor" in act 3 if you so desire, you get the best payoff possible: you get to take your lute and start playing. To finally sing your song. It's such a beautiful scene, and a great payoff as a roleplayer.
