Will agree totally, what a great rendition of this song. He is a true ballad singer and I would buy his albums. I love his singing, his true interpretation of this song. Please sing more songs like this Anthony.

Beautiful! I can't understand why Mr. Kearns has not released any albums other than those done with others. I would buy every one and surely I wouldn't be the only one.

Every time that I listen, I try to imagine myself as the Croppy Boy, to be disowned by so many. Friends indeed.

You have fallen for the old British ruse. Sadly this is the "Brit" version of this song. The original version tells the true story.... the croppy boy went to confess his sins in the church - including his killing of a British soldier. Unfortunately another British soldier was dressed as a priest and heard his confession which was then treated as an official confession of a crime and he was hanged for this. The version in this video is the distorted/Brit version of the song in which the young man's family and friends are blamed for his plight and not the British army. It is a tragedy that people like you (and many before you no doubt) are/were too quick to believe falsehoods against their own people. Sad.

Love Anthony's singing of the Croppy Boy; a song from his own county of Wexford and he sings it just beautifully. I come back to listen every so often and it is great each time. I love this song and it has not been hijacked by others for any of their self-fulfilling purposes. It is still a pure song of the Croppy Boy.

Anthony has a true God-given voice. I hope he always takes good care of it. It is bringing such joy to everyone that hears him sing. His singing of the Croppy Boy was truly bittersweet. .

    The words:
It was early, early all in the Spring
When the birds did whistle and sweetly sing,
Changing their notes all from tree to tree
And the song they sang was: Old Ireland free!
Oh as I went walkin` up Wexford street
Oh me own first cousin I changed to meet
Well me own first cousin did me betray
And for one bare guinnea sold me life away
It was early early all in the night,
    When the yeoman cavalry gave me a fright;
Well the yeoman cavalry was my downfall,
And taken was I by Lord Cornwall.
And as I went walking up Wexford Hill,
Now who could blame me to cry me fill?
I looked behind, and I looked before,
And my aged mother I`ll see no more
And when I stood on the scaffold high
My own dear father was standing by
Well me own dear father did me deny
And the name he gave me was the croppy boy
In Dungannon town now this boy died
In Dungannon town does his body lie
So all you strangers that do pass by
Go shed a tear for the croppy boy

Truly sung with true words not replace words with some fake words.
So i will always listen to "And when I stood on the scaffold high" rather than the "platform high" as some sing it.

It’s a low whistle, basically an oversized tin whistle but made from aluminium. The flute maker Bernard Overton developed them for Finbar Furey.
