    Loving your videos, so much knowledge it provides

    Great explanation, thank you for sharing this. I would be helpful for more of us if you create a video of how you create the .PRT. This looks very interesting and challenging. it seems for the model tree, you were using pretty much advanced modeling.
    Thanks again,

    Sir I am talking about the common sub- assemblies which we make flexible in length and follow the same part numbers .the lengths of the subassemblies are different in different sub assemblies

    Thanks. I found a nice video that you produced on cross sections in the model. Do you have anything on producing sections in the drawing view environment?

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      No, because I recommend creating them in the model to show in the drawing.

    Sir, I am talking about flexible components,I have created subassemblies using flexible components.....in assembly I am using 2 subassemblies with the same part numbers,do being flexible hey are of different lengths in assembly but in BOM lengths are not shown as different ones it shows the same length of any one subassembly

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      Okay. You should have explained at the beginning that you were using Component Flexibility. It sounds like you are not using Bills of Material properly. They are sourcing documents for your supply chain, as in "purchase this many of this component" and "manufacture this many of this component." They are not process plans or installation documents, as in "assemble this component to this length." The installed length is not a component level or instance level parameter, so you can't show it in the BOM. Are these really the same component part numbers? If so, you can indicate the installation length in a process plan or some other document. You shouldn't be capturing that in a BOM.

      K sir, please if possible pls guide me how to show those lengths in installation documents... thanks

    How Can I change auxiliiary view project part to particular angle.which it comes to harizontal or vertical.
    Please explain

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  2 года назад +1

      An auxiliary view needs to be based off existing geometry. You can’t make an auxiliary view at an arbitrary angle. That’s not how drawings work.

    Great video, as always! How would you modify the boundary for a detail view? I find that I can select the text, but not the boundary circle.

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  2 года назад +1

      Select the Detail View and choose Properties. In the dialog box is a field where you click in that allows you to change the boundary.

    Sir suppose in an assembly drawing 2 subassemblies are there but both having different lengths but with same generic part number....is it possible to get the both subassemblies listed in BOM in two separate rows with lengths indicated automatically

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      Automatically? No. But if you have a parameter, you can have that as a column in the BOM.

    • @luckyfitness7125
      @luckyfitness7125 4 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy sir I have a parameter, also included length column in table,but 2 sub assemblies of different lengths in main assembly drawing appears in one single row shown as qty 2 and shows length of any one of the subassemblies although the lengths of 2 sub assemblies are different.

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      @@luckyfitness7125 Please provide more information. How do they have different lengths? Are they mechanisms or do they have Component Flexibility applied? Right now there's not enough information for me to give any guidance. I would need to know how they have the same part number but different lengths. When you say "generic part number," are you talking about a Family Table?

    After setting up a good drawing with these instructions in half scale, when I produce Annotate- Dimension(s), the values of my dimensions are also coming out as half scale. Shouldn't this program compensate for view scales automatically?

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      It does. There's something wrong on your end. Did you convert your model views to draft entities by any chance? Or are you creating dimensions on draft entities?

    • @api9mm
      @api9mm 4 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy Not being at the PC, yes that is likely the case. It was in an attempt to dimension a bolt circle that was created in the sketch option (draft entity). I had to, since the b.c. could not be created in the model itself, as it represents bosses in a cast shape and not actual holes. In this case, where draft entities are necessary, how do I set them so that dimension values scale accordingly. Is it possible? Thanks for your time.

    • @api9mm
      @api9mm 4 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy Never mind. I found "draft_scale" in Detail Options. Thanks again for your time.

    Do you show in any of your drawing videos how to create a bolt circle? Creo has buried it somewhere just outside of obvious, at least in 4.0.

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      I don't think so. I find it really hard to get excited enough about drawings to do videos on the subject.

    • @wilwrk4tls
      @wilwrk4tls 4 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy I agree, but I started looking at drawings very differently years ago when someone made the point that as a design engineer that is really our only final product. We can look at a machine or product or thing that has sprung from our drawings, but drawings are really all we do, so they became a lot more important, and their quality became much more important since that was the final representation of my design work. It didn't matter what I could design or model up if my drawing was junk.

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      I don’t think the final product should be a drawing. Generating a 2D drawing from a 3D model is a step backwards. The final product should be an annotated model.

    • @wilwrk4tls
      @wilwrk4tls 4 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy That would certainly be nice. We are working on modernizing a lot of our processes but that aspect is certainly not in our near future so far as I can tell. At this point it is baby steps, and that is definitely a big boy step!
      Maybe when we get past Creo 4 and can update our part numbering process we can start putting that bug in someone's ear. We watched a presentation on MBD and even with the enticing demo there was a great deal of resistance in management to not have paper.

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      One common misconception is that MBD means going drawingless or paperless. MBD means having the part or assembly model as the primary source of PMI (Production and Manufacturing Information), but when necessary, generating a drawing or printout. In 2020, it's really hard to go completely without drawings. In practical reality today, we're using models when we can, and generating drawings as necessary.
