Deviled crabs in Tampa, FL are not in a crab shell, uses Cuban bread and saltines in the filling (with the crab), shaped like a football, breaded and deep fried. Everyone has their own recipes, but those are the basics. Alessi’s Bakery used to have the best ones when I was little, but after my last visit, not so much.😢
I'm from New Orleans too and we called them deadmen. I didn't know they were lungs until my niece took anatomy many years later. Also, I like stuffed crabs better than crab cakes. If I wanted to eat crab cakes with mostly crab meat then I would just eat crab meat. Thanks, Charlie.
