- A recent wave of violence against elderly Asian Americans in the San Francisco Bay area has caught the attention of many, including actors Daniel Dae Kim and Daniel Wu. The pair are offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect in these horrific attacks.

There is no justification for what they did in this video. They never said "ALL" they are referring to the specific black individuals who did this.

@@kss1190 I would say being prejudiced based on race is racism. Its only very recently where the idea that power has to be involved in order to be racism is rather recent. This new definition of racism is mostly used for political purposes and doesn't seem to be accurate, it completely ignores individual acts of racism and implies that racism is only relevant if it manifests in a power structure. But if someone murders someone or attacks someone based on racial reasons then that is clearly racism regardless of who does or who doesn't have power.

Thanks to the Real for at least covering the story, but I am NOT happy with Jeannie's arguments. Why is everything constantly spun into an argument about white supremacy when it was clearly members of the black community committing these hate crimes? One could argue that white supremacy led to an unjust society that made the black community economically disenfranchised, but in the cases where the elderly people were simply pushed over without being robbed, it was a HATE CRIME. Why does Jeannie only talk about the asian community taking responsibility for learning about the black community and not the other way around? Of course she's catering to her mostly liberal audience, but still. I DO think the asian community needs to address anti-Black sentiment, but the black community ALSO needs to reflect upon anti-Asian behavior that exists in their community- ex YG's song "Meet the Flockers" specifically talks about targeting Chinese neighborhoods to rob! Crimes are committed against Asian elderly, they're afraid, and yet you're still blaming the VICTIMS for being afraid. That's straight up gaslighting. Even if that 91 year old man was predisposed to fear black people or not, how would that have made any difference to the crime committed against him? My mom is an Asian immigrant who owns her own restaurant. She is 70 years old and if anyone physically attacked her, I would be sick to my stomach, but listening to people try to victim blame in this situation just makes it even more sickening. Why not just focus on personal accountability?

Call out the actions of these deplorable men, ignore the color of the skin. These actions should have consequences. Don’t hide behind mental help because that’s taking the easy way out. Any race, attacking a helpless elderly person is wrong. If they really had mental health, why not come for everyone, but just the old Asians. This is a racist attack. I agree with your sentiments here. I found it bizarre how they quickly turned the conversation into how the Asian community needs to change. That is a worthwhile discussion but not here - these elderly Asian men were doing nothing wrong?? Just walking. And this conversation turned into how the attackers have mental health issues and the Asian community needs to explore its racism towards black people. As a black person watching this, I kept thinking, “if these were elderly black men being attacked, how furious would I be to hear that the black community needs to do better with x or y.”

Not going to tell you my whole story but the hate between the black and asian community was not something I just saw on TV, it was something that I had lived through. The hate is coming from both sides. It ticks me off that they only high lighted that asians are racist. A deep conversation need to be had about how it became this way. As a daughter of refugees I feel like it stems from being crammed into a shitty living situation together and then having to fight for resources. I want both sides to try to understand each other struggles.

I’m so glad this season has been the season of bringing stories that aren’t really talked about to light... the fact that in the past two weeks I’ve seen not only elderly Asians but Asians/Asian-Americans in California specifically be targeted from carjackings to harassing to even pushing down people... like to me the fact that over the course of quarantine even during a time such as last year where ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE were sticking together to speak up on behalf of black people and exclaiming that Black Lives Matter... there’s still just people out there that somehow with these deplorable actions feed into the narrative and do things like this that black people in general already have held against them regardless if they’re innocent or not ... I’m strictly disgusted ! We have to remember to not be afraid of a whole group of people and generalize them based off of the actions of the few people in that group that commit horrendous actions like this... and we as minorities need to have more open minded and understanding conversations and come together because the ones up top will continue to thrive off of us if we don’t... we’re better together and stronger as one than we are apart...We are all Americans and need to DO BETTER !!!

So now with Covid and its supposed 'origins' now unfortunately the asians are starting to see the pain that black people have gone through. So no matter the group that is being discriminated speak up and do right as your group could be next.

They used the “well *THIS* minority is doing well here in the US, so why aren’t you” to Black Americans here in the States. This model minority myth (as stated, created by the white American male) has caused a large division between Black Americans and Asian Americans that still effects both communities today
