Purchased the Turbo Duo at Toys R Us at a massive clearance sale in 1994. Games were 79 cents a piece (bought a copy of all) including CD's, the game system was for $99.99. Still works perfectly today, it is awesome that it has made a comeback. Hudson games were always my favorite.
I pre-ordered the Analogue Duo because I wanted a Turbografx-16 when I was young and missed out. The TG-16/PC Engine has a great library of games and was very underrated here in the US.
Bold of Analogue to think that people can actually get their hands on Turbographix and PC Engine games easily these days, man i hate the retro market so much these days
You can buy brand new professionally pressed reproductions of CD and Hucard based games from PCEworks of a majority of the hit titles, they have hundreds of games available right now at a fraction of the used market pricing.
@@MarquisDeSang With how expensive Mister has gotten I actually agree. FPGA is more accurate but BSNES has some nice perks like HD Mode 7 and widescreen etc.

I was a PC engine fan! When it first came out in East Asia, I thought the graphic was so much better than Nintendo, especially when every video game stores played Valis II. The Analogue brought back memories, and I don't get the same experience from emulators.
Analogue has been on a roll. I had a pretty large TG 16 collection back in the day and I had a Turbo Express. I sold it because I was not a fan of the screen on the Turbo Express. What another huge retro gaming mistake. I did not even dream years down the road we would get hardware like the Turbo Duo. Looks like another collection I will have to build up again from scratch. How are the load times on the Turbo CD games? Have they been improved like on the Polymega? I also have to give props to Analogue for putting out 2 systems to play Turbo 16 cards, the Analogue Pocket and the Turbo Duo. They could have easily made it so the only way you could play TG 16 games was on the Duo but they did not. Again, thanks for the review. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Makes you wonder why the legacy console manufacturers don't release their retro consoles with modern features. They could use the same business model as analogue and sell them direct to the consumer. I am quite sure it would be very lucrative for them.
Mine arrived yesterday, but it's currently sitting gift-wrapped under the Christmas tree at the moment. Told my wife she can count it as her Christmas present to me (even though I bought it for myself a year ago). OT, sounds like you're getting a lot of static in your microphone in this video for some reason, no sure what's up with that. Your vids are usually clean cut, so it caught me off guard here...
Having the original controller port on the side was a bad move. And not having the HuCard slot opening like the original really messes with using an Everdrive. Overall I love it, but I hope that mechanism that grabs the CDs lasts. Should’ve just went with a door.
In fairness though about the everdrive, this is really focused on playing physical, as well as the 100 percent chance it will be jailbroken to play games off the SD card eventually.
I really like the Turbografx-16 and think it has a lot of great games, so it's nice to see this. I got into the system too late for it to be worth it to me to buy the Duo, though. I only own four physical games and any others I want are too expensive. The Duo does look like a nice product, though, and I'm sure it's worth owning if you have a decent collection of games for it. If not, it might be more cost effective to track down a Turbografx-16 Mini, which comes with a variety of decent games for the system and seems to go for not much more than the Duo.
Someone probably already mentioned this, but the 8bitdo wireless controller did not come with the TurboGrafx 16 mini. TG 16 mini came with a wired controller. I think it was made by Hori
I’m grateful for Analogue making this as I’m looking forward to reducing ware on my original Duo. I do wish the controller port was on the front as the original controllers have extremely short cords but I prefer them for the 3 Turbo settings and the 6 button Avenue pad that’s a must for SF II C.E. IMO the original TurboDuo is the most beautiful console design I’ve ever seen and Analogue did it justice with their design
Never managed to pair the Duo with the 8bitdo controllers, even after updating everything (and yes, you need to update the controllers too and it is less than obvious). Works great with original japanese controllers though.
Compared to the price of a real TurboDuo this is a good deal. A new in box product dedicated to playing all of these titles without region issues or needing the CD-ROM2 card. Unless of course you're like a lot of us and want original hardware. For that I would recommend a Turbo Everdrive.
Unfortunately my Duo is DOA. There's no display and the power light comes on for a little while, then off for a few seconds, then repeat forever. Also there's something loose rattling around inside. I'm waiting on Analogue to reply for a replacement. I hate how there is no cutout above the HuCard slot, making it necessary to remove the cover on an EverDrive. I took the cover off mine and plugged it in and it needed quite a lot of force and even then it's a little wobbly, so I dunno about that. The USB ports on the back are wobbly too. But with mine being DEAD I can't tell if it was plugged in properly or not anyway.
The biggest thing I don’t like about software is, I don’t think it should be limited quantities, small, limited quantities. If people are going to do that, then they need to let people have access to the RMS or have some place where you can download the games that way, everybody has a chance of being able to play all the neat games.
One of my favorite games on the system is Gate Of Thunder. And of course its one of the games that doesnt sound correct. Still waiting for the fix Analogue.
Also I want to say this because I think this is really important when looking at this product. Gate Of Thunder was a pack in title for the actual Turbo Duo and this core doesn’t run it properly. That’s a pretty big red flag everybody.
Man looks awesome! What I’m wondering is if the old Hori Fighting Multi Stick works on this thing?! Don’t know if you have one but would be great if someone could test this out
Yeah it is too Niche for me but out of curiosity how much does it cost?!? Also it’s pretty cool that there is some dedicated HomeBrew for TurboGrafX-16! 😎
Unrelated: I'm still upset they handled the pocket adapters. Not only forcing customers to purchase all 3, delayed over a year, now it's gone from pre-sell to sold out without any notice of purchase. You would think the high volume of pocket sales would indicate interest in these adapters. No press release or notice. EBay now has become the only avenue, you know what that means. I just want the dang ngpc. It's a main reason why I supported this purchase of a pocket in the first place. Soooooo aggravating
This thing just has too many issues out the gate. I know some will be fixed via firmware updates, but the tight card/disk slot will take a hardware revision…which I doubt will ever happen.
