Hi! I make lanyard as well and I started my own channel recently. Do you have any idea for how I can get my videos popular like yours? I can make anything from boxes (square stitch) to American flags, to whales and lightsabers and beyond
Thank you. Every time the girls have a crafts session I'm back here, starting square stitches for all of them. Lots of little girls thank you too :-)

The kids at the summer camp i work at do these all the time. They always ask me to help them start and i never knew how. I do now...thanx a lot. :-)
thank you...my daughter was sooo frustrated and after watching some of your videos..she can do it! yeah! You are the BEST!
for everyone who says it doesn't work, clearly it DOES because he does it right there in front of you on the video. you just need to watch carefully and when you tug everything together, make sure you do it slowly and pull every string at the same speed/length. you might need to mold it a bit on your own at the end, it took me ten tries but i finally got a great stitch start.
omigosh!! i actually got it!! yayyyyyy!
if anyones having trouble with this, the position has to be the same as his, and when you pull on the strings, the strings you started out with (the loops) has to be pulled in the opposite direction that its in. not sure if thats going to help, but i hope you all get it too!
sat here three times and try to remember it from 10 years ago and couldn't get it, typed in box stitching on youtube and got it the first time! thanks.
Great! Thanks for this, I love making these keyring- stitches, they're not hard at all! it's only the begining that's a little different, it's actually really fun!

I literally sat here for a good hour and every time I take it off my finger IT UNDOS ITS SELF
Very helpful
// d e s p a i r // same
Me too
The problem that you’re having is that you are letting the ends of the first string stay open. If you notice that there isn’t a loop on a string and that it is just a straight string, you have to go over that one and under the next one.
i love you! So many tutorials and this time I nailed it, first time!!!
THANK YOU! I'm trying to teach my little sisters and this made it so much easier!
Thank you I got it down because of you, your video helped me

guys it does work.....when you pull it off your finger.....do it gently when you tug the strings
when you go to use a new knot, do you use the same colour each time or alternate between them?
OMG! Thank you so much! Seriously when I made these when I was young the beginning was always the hardest part .This is THE best way ever to start them! The rest of the square ones are really easy, it was starting it that sucked! :P

You need to hold the strings with your other fingers and make sure that your loops are tight.
This is a great, clear tutorial. Thanks!
Your the only one I could actually follow!!!!! Thanks=+)

Hey it was the same way with my mom she tried 2 get it but she never could. I was having trouble 2 and I think I can help u. When u take the loop off ur finger be careful not 2 mess it up and pull it slowly and when u pull it slwly watch the gimp 2 make sure it does not get tangled
When you continue do you do the same technique ??
what do you mean by the like you keep it closer to you? i always get messed up by that. please help me thank you
Hello my fellow craftlace/boondoggle/gimp/lanyard creators. I have been looking at this video several times, which I do know how to start and finish and mostly I have been reading your comments, some good and some bad. I AM NOT THE CREATOR OF THIS VIDEO but some of the comments posted got me thinking because some people say when they are doing the square stitch it becomes a knot when they remove the stitch off there finger. So I said why not do a video on how I do the square stitch without it going into a knot. With that being said you can watch my video on the square stitch that is not knotless when you remove the beginning stitch from your finger. The name of my video is Boondoggle/Lanyard/Craftlace/Gimp Square Stitch - Knotless Starting Stitch or you can pull my name up and see my video (Melissa Reid Boondoggle).
This video very extremely awesome I feel like a genius for understanding this than other videos that were stupid :D
THIS HELPED ME SOOOO MUCH THANK YOU!
